Indy had a photo of a woman looking like she was in some sort of agony, so a comment was posted questionning this pix. Then the pix changed...huh????? is this permitted? what are the rules and guidelines for shape shifting pix or stories AFTER they are published here ? What games are being played that this website encourages or allows?
take another look....a photo has been EXHANGED for the one previously posted / published with this article and the old one is now is placed elsewhere - oh so conveniently....
it was at http://la.indymedia.org/news/2009/01/223864_comment.php#223879
the article titled:
Jews Shut Down Israeli Counsulate in Protest of Attack on Gaza! by Jewish People of Conscience Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at 9:49 AM
BUT after my comment on did not appear as originally posted, and seemed to be temporarily removed or unavailable, but in a few days later the next viewing show a TOTALLY DIFFERENT PIX IN PLACE OF THE ONE FOR WHICH THE COMMENT WAS INTENDED.
the first comment was about a pix of woman chained [looking like in agony of some sort] so the appropriate comment from one point of view was:
- - - -
"what a sorry spectacle
by yep just another jew too Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009
is this woman in pain because she chose to chain herself to some post or wall or other people? ..."[snip]
- - - - -
Now...that comment LOOKS as if it was stupid & irrelevant to the NEW photo put in place.
Is Indymedia staff CHANGING PIX after one is posted to another one to confuse us ?
Did Indymedia staff CHANGE THE PHOTO THAT WAS ABOVE the prior comment - to make the comment writer look stupid and incongruous ?
Are commentators able to change their story and pictures AFTER PUBLISHING IT HERE to revise and change the slant so that other commentators are fooled and look foolish for saying what then doesnt fit any more ?
A very different photo was displayed for a few days before the 1/15/09 comment above was written and it was not "hate-speech", not cursing, not defaming, not agreeing and not hating anyone in particular, but it does QUESTION the then-photo that was then-displayed.
So why the game playing or what are the rules of this Indymedia game?
Are staff / volunteers at Indymedia allowed to slant and hide whatever THEY personally dont like or agree with ?
Is that INDEPENDENCE ? or censorship ? & propaganda ? made for a certain cause - or two or three -
is anyone who is not wanting better for the latest victims, while he latest propagandized version of "news" per the main street major media, per the local 'radicals' who think of themselvles as RIGHTEOUS and maybe even heroic are all the while safely esconced in some Beverly Hills consulate garage ...
Please ! provide us all GUIDELINES and honest information as to who and how this website operates and what are the hidden agendas, how the oversight is kept by responsible people Here, and the ways that things can be so sureptitiously shifted or changed to confuse the audience.
If only those with the rebellious, angry, volatile or 'protesting' orientation are allowed here, then give us all the sign that others need not write or read this and we can all let the rest of more fair & balanced Indy sites know the limited "orientation" ALLOWED HEREin LA . There are many other blogs available easily but this is pertinent to what happens in Our City, so we thought.
IF all can be published that is not violent-prone, nor directly insulting [by a more general consensus - not just individual personal sensitivity ], that is not fraudulent or fake information, or that is not attack intended to hurt or destroy, what are the CRITERIA for posting, allowing comments, articles, pix, and 'other' points of view here ?
Let us know, for it appears that shifty moves are happening and it is not the hacking by Turks but the manipulating by someone closer that seems to also be a problem here.
Is it ?
Tell us all at one time, Indy staff...how does this work or does it work fairly ?

when it comes to transparency at some of the curious phenomena here one has to wonder.
'Hacking' is usually the explanation.
Then there are seemingly more *personal* efforts. Someone is keeping logs and IPs, I know that.
VERY curious methods of counter insurgency occur here without explaination even when e mailed, commented upon or even published.

SURE LOOKS SUSPICIOUS,
it's more othan ordinary software problems if you read the comments made by the apparently confused commentator ....it is not the sme image but their comments ...because of someone else SHIFTING AND CHANGING THE IMAGE being WRITTEN ABOUT that concerns us.
Please read the article's actual words and intentions more carefully so that a simple excuse like "software problems" cannot be used without Your Looking Foolish now. It was the comments made to a pix that was then later....removed and replaced with a different pix ...making the comments thus irrelevant and stupid.
How can this be software problems"? Please explain more if there is any reasonableness to this response.
at least someone attempted to respond, even if not too intelligently or only skimmed the article and did NOT get the message sent . Are there any people RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INDY SITE in attendance there ?
I have written to the info email previously at various times and never ever rec'd any response at all, , so I assumed only volunteers worked here and no one cared about whatever....not even an 'automatic' thank you for writing response was sent.
while we all appreciate all and any work done by volunteers to keep site going and our donations are used to help a bit to keep the site up, it all seems a bit murkey and undistinguished to us 'out here' and is going to your meeting the only way to get to find out ?
or is there something more definite in writing that you can refer all of us to define what is our Indymedia anyhow ?
Having re-read your "about us" page gives us no further information than you prefer having anything /any person/ group that even appears to be a "victim of oppression" so you can then save them and blame others here...is that the intention ?
A place to ally with all those who claim pure innocense and be holy and blameless and can then righteously attack and hate "others" that they then label as "oppressors"...for the moment it's one group.... then another becomes victim or the 'other'...like in Georgia most recently notable, like in Gaza where 2 sides make opposite claims, like in LA with police interfaces where any civilian is obviously more righteous and honest than anyone in uniform ?
Is this what INDPENDENCE stands for ?
huh?
not clear here.what have we here ?
CLARIFICATION may be in order so we can all know who we ally with and where our dedicated words are landing...here.
Indymedia LA - please respond further and with more actual information please.

Sorry about being not too intelligent. A definite problem, I assure you.
If by meaning. skimming the post, I arrived at related problems that occur with similarly strange reasons, forgive my not making that clear enough. I do try to stay on topic.
You say the explanation given you by an apparent LA IMC staff member doesn’t seem to wash, unless I am mistaken and I say there are also other unanswered questions that remained unanswered concerning interference with publishing for incomprehensible reasons save an interested and malicious hand.

If your photos get messed up, go to: la.indymedia.org/uploads/fix.php
That will reconstruct the thumbnails. Please don't hit that URL over and over. just go there, and wait. it takes time to work.

the question is not how to get pix up on this site but why a pix was removed and replaced by another
AFTER a comment about the first pix was made ?
that was suspicious appearing with no answer as to who has access to make such changes AFTER it is once published....do Indy volunteers just switch photos at whim ?
or did someone not like the comment and switched the pix to make the comment seem irrelevant and confused?
or is no one minding "the store" and anything can happen here because it is open & free to any angry pix or shout with no explanations or investigations as to
changes-made-after-publishing ?
INDY VOLUNTEERS - DO YOU READ OR KNOW ANYTHING FURTHER TO TRULY EXPLAIN HOW THIS HAPPENS ?
