by PACIFICA RADIO LISTENER NO MORE

BILINGUAL MESSAGE (ESPANOL ABAJO): Now that Tea Parties are the hot topic of the news, Pacifica board members aren't even bothering to hide their contempt for the diverse community-based programming that was the original vision of Pacifica's founder Lew Hill.
On April 19, 2010 during the meeting of the Pacifica National Board's Programming Committee, Kim Kaufman (KPFK Local Station Board member) urges Pacifica to move AWAY from diverse programming. Is "diverse" a code word for people of color programming? Kaufman makes it pretty clear:
"If I don't hear the word 'oppressed people' for a while, I'll be happy.... Because we're getting more and more fractured, and we're trying to reach out to different constituents, we are losing just from my talking to people, we're losing the people who used to turn on KPFK and listen to it all day long... The more we try for diversity, the more we're going to lose people... "
===================

The time has come to recognize that Pacifica, KPFK, and Obama are lost causes.

to not want to continually hear same old slogans that used to elicit a vibrant response is to ask for CHANGES to replace the old sloganeering that no longer works or effects most people...who have protested, worked, paid, pledged, volunteered and helped everyone who claimed they did not get 'their fair share' of whatever...
the new "entitled" people use old words trying to get MORE and instead find weary workers for equality having found that same old tactics and same old chants and same old shouts no longer are effective or relevant NOW.
To continually repeat and repeat, as is being done here too, is 'tune out' not 'turn on' effect by now.
Ever go to a street group meet of 12 people who are sounding just like those of 50 years ago with even the same words, same chants, same demands, same assumed entitled-to-anything-anyone-else-has ! ?
Creative current relevant ways are needed to be effective. For someone to actually say they want to MOVE forward and stop hearing same people repeat same 'demands' as if they had more power than big lungs to be berated here is another ordinary old tactic that also doesnt work.
For more equality, for more discussion, for more effective discourses, gatherings, programs on Pacifica is a great idea. To have the same old programmers repeating themselves still the same way with same guests with same messages is dull and dead.
Let's get WITH THESE TIMES, 2010, not 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000... let's wake up and be brave in better ways !
