the score was 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. Nadal was visibly fatigued. Federer must have been amazing to watch starting in the second set. you don't bagel Nadal, even a tired Nadal, unless you're totally on fire.
this is amazing accomplishment. Federer made a tough decision to dump Tony Roche, now he's even won a clay court against Nadal. that makes this year's French Open, with the possibility of Federer continuing with his Grand Slam quest, unbelievably exciting.)

this year's French Open is a landmark for sports. this is one of those moments that sports fans will remember for years afterwards.
Now that Roger Federer has won Hamburg--bagelling the greatest clay courter of this time along the way--he has served notice that he's a serious contender for the French.
This is no "clown era". Nadal is the two-time defending champion. Nadal is also five years younger than Roger, which is a significant advantage. The later rounds of the tournament get very grueling; youth is served as a rule.
Meanwhile, if Federer wins the French he's halfway to a Grand Slam. In today's tennis, that is an extraordinary feat. it will be one of the greatest years any athlete has had in sports.)

(Force of Evil, made during a time when the public knew generally what was going on, cannot be appreciated by too many people of this time. The little anti-capitalist jokes that go on will be missed by the generation which is actually capitivated by Seinfeld or Friends.
It is a very curious film. Soon-to-be-Blacklisted Abraham Polonsky doesn't have that strong of an artistic vision, relative to the rest of Hollywood. There a lot of better directed noirs.
However, Polonsky's grim writing does tend to make Force of Evil enjoyable. John Garfield is also very good as the corrupt lawyer who is loyal to his brother. Garfield was a tragic loss; he was solid.
I recommend Force of Evil, but there are better films to help sell film noir with.
btw, isn't it amazing that a group of people would conspire to remove Abraham Polonsky from the culture because of his anti-capitalist views? How do human beings descend into barbarism by preventing artists from creating?
