Demo Recap of Phenomenex and POM Wonderful
, image/jpeg, x
On Friday August 4th and Sunday August 6th a dedicated group of 25 or so California activists protested the juice company, POM Wonderful, for a weekend of action against killing and torturing animals for juice. In order to make health claims about pomegranate juice, POM resorted to funding experiments where scientists temporarily lowered brain oxygen levels and brain blood flow in newborn mice then forced their mothers to drink water mixed with pomegranate concentrate amongst other cruel test to rabbits and other animals. In response, we took it to the front doors of POM's executives to let them know what we thought of their "health claims".
Activists love parties and when we heard POM wonderful was hosting their company luau in Malibu on Friday we felt it was a good time to swing by and let everyone there know what we and that the rest of the world thought about the killing of animals for juice. But first we had to swing by Doctor Harley Liker's private medical clinic. Harley Liker is the medical director for POM wonderful and the person responsible for the killing of these animals through crazy experiments. The businesses surrounding his posh 3rd floor Beverly Hills office were not only interested but supportive of our presence, including several doctors and a mom and daughter team who stopped to help us hand out information. We tried to speak with Harley before and after our protest but he said he was to busy. We hope that next time he won't be to busy when we swing by his house to chat.
After visiting Harley Liker, several cars of activists then made their way over to the company luau. Despite activists being physical assaulted by employee's and private security guards, POM did nothing but give us the motivation to visit them at their homes on Sunday. Thanks for a POM Wonderful picnic!!!
We told them we'd be at their houses and if they didn't believe us Friday, they do now. Bright and early Sunday morning our dedicated and always expanding group met up and headed to the Santa Monica house of POM's President of Corporate Communications, Fiona Possell. Fiona is the person who tells the world what POM what's us to hear. Fiona was not home but her husband was. Mr. Possell did not enjoy our presence and let us know by charging at activists with a fireplace poker. When he realized his attempted assault was caught on tape he quickly retreated back into his house.
Next up was Denise Bonder who is the director of Human Resources for POM's parent company Roll International. It was a pleasure to interrupt her quiet Sunday morning. The kids bikes were out and her husband was enjoying the sun in his front yard until he turned to find masked protesters and several bullhorns informing the neighbors of the evils POM is paying for. Mr. Bonder also charged at and tried to assault protesters. Is it just us or do these people who make their money through the suffering of others have a real tendency for violence?
We then made our way to the curb outside of Mr. John Regal quiet Santa Monica apartment complex. John Regal is the VP of Marketing for POM. His neighbors confirmed he lived there but he wouldn't answer his phone or talk with us but we had no problem chatting with those who lived nearby. The resounding theme of the weekend was a first shock that POM kills animals for juice and then appreciation and support that we were out there spreading the word. Neighbors complained very little about the noise we were making and more often then not thanked us for letting them know what was going on inside POM Wonderful.
Our next stop was none other then the estate of billionaire's Lynda and Stewart Resnick's on Sunset Blvd in Beverly Hills. These two murders own the company of POM and just proved how even with security cameras and big gates and you can try to hide inside massive mansions built on the suffering of others, but we will not relent and we will never give in. We are sure the Resnick's will make the compassionate and ethical choice and stop killing animals for juice and we will keep stopping by until they do.
We wrapped up the POM demo's with a nice drive into the hills to visit CEO of POM, Matthew Tupper. When our carloads of activists arrived his second floor windows were open but as soon as we got to his front gate the window was closed and he wouldn't come to the door. We had no problem making our prescence known to both him and his neighbors. This man has the power to end the killing of thousands of animals. If he wants to stop us from coming to his house or the home of his employees simply stop testing POM Wonderful juice on animals. This is not a letter writing campaign and we will be back.
Done with POM Wonderful for the day we decided that we would make our way to the grand finale in our series of home demonstrations – the houses of the executives of Phenomenex, an important HLS supplier.
Several carloads of activists arrived at the palatial ocean frontPalos Verdes Estates estateof President and CEO Fasha Mahjoor, for the first of three demos against his company. With glee we noted the line of cars filling his long driveway – he must have forgotten to send us party invitations. Not to worry; we decided that we would ask to come join the party and discuss his company's ties with HLS. We made our way down his long driveway and, with our bullhorns at maximum volume, let all of his guests and neighbors know how this family makes their living selling the restraints that hold down baby monkeys as they are tortured and cut open alive. His guests cowered behind curtained windows though one brave soul stuck her head out to give us the finger and quickly grab a small, very sad-looking dog that had been left on the back porch in a cage.
The police sirens started soon thereafter, and we were met at the driveway by the screeching tires of one very scared Officer. He exited the vehicle with one hand on his gun and the other extending his asp and demanded that we sit on the curb. Well aware of our Consititutional rights,we kept standing as more police arrived. The overzealous response by authorities only served to strengthen the motivation of those involved in the protesting, and shows that these demos are indeed having an impact on Phenomenex and the murderers at Huntingdon Life Sciences. Fasha Mahjoor himself, well aware that no crimes had been committed, declined to file charges, and the cops were left with nothing to do but allow us to exercise our right to free speech and continue to our next location.
From Fasha Mahjoor's mansion we moved to the house of his sister, who is also the CFO of Phenomenex, in Rancho Palos Verdes. We were let into her gated community and were more then happy to inform her neighbors that she kills animals for profit. We wrapped up the day with a parade of sorts at the house of Fasha's mother-in-law, located at 6883 Crest Rd., Rancho Palos Verdes 90275. We made our way up and down her streets explaining that her family has destroyed the lives of innocent animals for personal gain. Her neighbors welcomed the information and one even proclaimed that our presence was "awesome!"
We reminded and will continue to remind Phenomenex, anyone involved with HLS, and any family who has built their fortune on blood money that we will not back down until they stop doing business with this atrocious company. Police intimidation is no match for activists who know their rights. Those who profit from Huntingdon Life Sciences will have to deal with us until they make the ethical choice to drop HLS. We will be back again and again...and we always win.
WE NEVER BACK DOWN AND WE ALWAYS WIN. WE'LL SEE YOU SOON.
