Trust For Public Land Drafting Legal Documents For Developer Horowitz Today
Los Angeles - “The Trust For Public Land is continuing to work with the seller and private funders to negotiate a transaction to purchase the community farm. The Trust For Public Land is working today on developing an offer to present to the seller,” states Bob Reid, of the Trust For Public Land.
Yesterday the Annenberg Foundation presented a letter of intent to the developer pledging a substantial amount of money strengthening The Trust for Public Land's position to purchase the South Central Farm.
For more information and to make donations, go to www.southcentralfarmers.com
Interest in South Central Farm is spreading across the nation and around the world, while calls and donations of support are flooding in. South Central Farm represents the very real opportunity to make our cities more livable, safe and productive. Its preservation has become a priority not just for concerned Angelenos, but citizens worldwide as farmers and supporters risk imminent eviction.
The roster of concerned supporters grows as public and celebrity endorsements multiply. Those that have come to the farm include Joan Baez, Danny Glover, Martin Sheen, Christine Chavez, Father Michael Kennedy, Evelyn Knight, Reverend Michael Beckwith, Ben Harper, Laura Dern, Tom Morello, Rosanna Arquette, Amy Smart, Michelle Shocked, Alicia Silverstone, among others.

Trust for Public Lands Says Talks Are On With Developer
L. A. Mayoral Staff Issues Public Support

Los Angeles – Significant funding to purchase the South Central Farm has now been pledged. The Trust for Public Land publicly stated that lines of communication between all parties remain open and everything is moving towards the same goal: the sale of the property on behalf of the farmers.

“If there is a chance to mediate the situation the Mayor will do what he can to settle this,” said Larry Frank, Los Angeles Deputy Mayor at a Thursday night farm prayer vigil. “Don’t give up hope, no one can predict how this will end.”

Commissioner Paula Daniels, L.A. City Board of Public Works echoed Larry Frank in her statement to the farmers and supporters: “The Mayor cares about you and wants to make this one of the greenest cities in America – that includes the 500 trees that are at the farm.”

Friday marks day 18 of the tree sit by Daryl Hannah, John Quigley and Julia “Butterfly” Hill, who is now on day 25 of a water fast. The encampment is looking for a peaceful resolution with the developer and L.A. city council.

A Press conference will be held at 11 a.m. to restate the status of the offer to buy the farm. Alicia Rivera from Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy will be joined by invited guests from the Interfaith Committee for Peace & Justice. The farm model for a sustainable, multi-use facility will be on display and Fernando Flores, designer, will be available for questions. Later in the evening after the 7 p.m. prayer vigil the farm expects a visit by over 100 bicycle riders.

You know, this lie - that 250 Farmers have been thrown off the Farm is absolutely fraudulent.

There is no backing for this from any credible source - not even the LA Weekly or the LA Times - neiother of which have been friendly to the Farm in any way.

These posts are fraudulent and extremely extremely redundant, and should , I feel be deleted.

Thanks,

Decolonize

do not censor

apparently the previous poster never read the 1st amendment.
Instead of posting evidence to counter the other poster, this poster would simply call for a deletion.

enough

by Sean Monday, Jun. 12, 2006 at 11:41 PM

Enough of this ego driven bickering. Im not sure what part of the article is being claimed as false. The facts are that 350 families have been working here for 14 years, and that for the last 3 years, the developer has been trying to take steps to remove them. You can not claim that the helicopters buzzing over our heads at the farm dozens of times every day do not exist. To show anything but support for the campesinos who want to feed their families in a healthy manner; keep their children safe in LA; and keep their culture alive- is self centered. Food and families over profit- period

"Do Not Censor"

by Decolonize Tuesday, Jun. 13, 2006 at 1:14 AM

The evidence has been clearly stated elsewhere. The LA Weekly said the disaffected Farmers added up to 20 people. These posters keep claiming - without substantiation - 250 disaffected Farmers.

They also keep posting personal attacks against the Farm's leaders, most of it in the form of name calling and innuendo, the most disgraceful kind of attack, rooted, almost always, in moral and political bankruptcy.

This is a matter of the freedom of the press, if we want to worry about so called rights that are always reserved, ultimately, for the rulers, and not for the ruled.

LA Indymedia has stated political purposes that do not include making itself guilty of slander in the name of a right wing attack on the Farm.

It is not obliged to continue to allow unsubstantiated attacks and lies to be posted, but can "hide" them, according to its policies.

Why?

by = ) Wednesday, Jun. 14, 2006 at 9:26 PM

Why did Rufina Juarez and Tezozomoc throw out over 250 original farmers?

South Central Farm Contaminated?

by Q Sunday, Jun. 25, 2006 at 6:11 AM

Leslie doesn't have all the facts...
Been at the farm for 3 days and is ignorant about the history. A question that should be posed was the land ever mitigated? The land is CONTAMINATED!

Reality Check Please.
