HELP SAVE THE FARM!

The city of Los Angeles is in the final stages of their effort to take the collective South Central Farm away from the community. The South Central Farm project is located on 14 acres of land at 41st and Alameda Streets in the middle South Central Los Angeles. It has been used as a collective community farm and garden since 1992 and is one of the largest urban gardens in the United States. The farm provides food-safety, open space, family activities and self relented to the community. It also feeds 350 families by providing fresh fruits and vegetables on daily basis. Each family has their own plot of land and grows the plants and food they choose. Now the city of Los Angeles wants to turn the land over to developers who will destroy the farm and build warehouses. Time is running out but there is still some hope. There is less than 10 days to save the Farm. On Monday May 22, 2006, if the 16.3 million dollars needed to purchase the Fand from developer Ralph Horowitz is not acquired, the contractual agreement giving the farmers a stay on the land will go void. Ralph Horowitz already has the eviction notice in hand!! On Monday May 22, he will ask the court to send the eviction to the L.A County Sheriffs Department so that they may execute the eviction. The farmers and community will have approximately 24 hours to vacate the farm and turn it over to Ralph Horowitz for its destruction and transformation into a possible Wal-mart or other mega corporation warehouse/distribution center. Visit the SCF website to find out how you can help! http://www.southcentralfarmers.com ----------- See the whole collection of all 70 photographs of the Farm by Jonathan McIntosh: http://capedmaskedandarmed.com/photo/southcenteralfarm/index.html Read a detailed synopsis on the history of the farm: http://www.southcentralfarmers.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=vie Watch a short film on the South Central Farm: http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2718434?htv=12&;htv=12
