When Save Our State Stays Away

Report on no demonstration in San Bernardino

When Save Our State ...
highland_lincoln3.jpg, image/jpeg, 596x528

At 7:45 a.m., under clear, cool skies, forty jornaleros were waiting for work in the gas station lot. Cars, pickups, flatbeds, delivery trucks, even an old panel truck rode through, stopped, and drove on. Within an hour, more than thirty eses had jobs.

A less fortunate guy dragged an overflowing grocery cart covered in a worn gray blanket across Lincoln and disappeared up Highland.

Save Our State, a militant anti-day laborer group, had canceled today's planned protest against day labor at W. Highland Ave. and Lincoln Dr.

Glendale

by Bowman Monday, Dec. 05, 2005 at 5:16 AM

Yes everyone, please be at Glendale on the 10th.
The more the merrier.

I will be there with my "Stop Corporate Globalism" sign.

But since I do not associate with racists, supremists, or Nazis of any color, I will be on the SOS side.

See you there.

The usual yellow spin

by Don Silva Monday, Dec. 05, 2005 at 9:07 AM

Leslie,

You actually went there to post those signs ?

Oh, if you were not paying attention, the saveourstate types were helping Gilchrist today, not staying home.

I am wondering how you feel about the hypocritical stance you take concerning day laborers possibly getting injured and having no possible recourse for ongoing treatment of their injuries. You really think it is a good idea for them to get work on a street corner, and if injured have NO workers comp or insurance ? So happy to see that you advocate such an unsafe working envrinon.

Reading, a fundamental skill

by Leslie Monday, Dec. 05, 2005 at 7:02 PM

You'll notice the article doesn't say SOS stayed home--it says they stayed away. Maybe I should have explained that they stayed away for fear of a rainstorm that was forecast to end the day before their demonstration, and because they had other things they'd rather do.

Gilchrist's campaign is kaput, Gilchrist is over as a viable candidate for anything bigger than Aliso Viejo city council--and that would be pushing it. Why would I spend my Saturday opposing Gilchrist's election when District 48 voters will take care of that on Tuesday?

On the other, watching the ebb and flow of a typical day laborer's job search was enlightening. On a sociological level, It became apparent that the laborers were filling a niche in an economy that can't guarantee 100% employment. And the employers had the freedom to match skills to tasks. Employees and employers can check each other out before they contract for long-term employment. More importantly, day laborers escape the tyranny of "permanent" employment (a misnomer if I ever heard one) and can turn down work for inadequate pay or health and safety concerns, make community connections, and practice their trades. Even a temp agency can't offer all that. Although I doubt many people indoctrinated in the U.S. labor market would go for it, I saw some of the upside in day laboring. All in all, the guys there seemed to prefer it to SOS's option for them--unemployment.

Wrong Leslie!

by Border Raven Monday, Dec. 05, 2005 at 7:57 PM

I actually like the idea of a day labor site.

I don't like the idea that illegal immigrants are there taking jobs from eligible workers, young adults, college graduates, of all races.

I don't like it that the employers are led to think it is legal to hire somone in such an informal manner, as it would be illegal for anyone to run an informal taxi service with a mini-van. See Jeepney:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeepney

We have laws, and for goodness sake, follow those laws.

Workers have to show they are legally here, in order to work here. They have to provide proof.

Employers, must provide the USDOJ-INS For I-9 to the worker, and keep the form on file. It don't matter if the job is for a day. I have filled out the I-9, everytime I went to get a job or sign up with every damn temporary agency, in the region. I doubt you have worked for a Temporary Agency, lately.

You cannot get a job a McD's without filling out the I-9 or a W-4, so how is it these day labor sites are operating within the laws?

They are not following the lasw and the people who hire the DLs, are not following feaderal hiring and tax laws.

Right now, we have homeowners and vehicle owners, innocently risking their vehicles and homes, by transporting, employing and harboring, illegal aliens . [Every alien is illegal until proven otherwise, especially at a day labor site.]

Out in force in Lake Forest and ???

by Border Raven Monday, Dec. 05, 2005 at 8:09 PM

I was in Lake Forest early Saturday morning.

I went by the DL site, observed day laborers loitering on the sidewalk, and interferring with business, then went to a local market to hand out Jim Gilcrist bumberstickers and Minutemen flyers.

I went back to the DL site, and watched the ladies carrying their signs. There was on youth, who seemed confused about the motive of the protest.

I managed to bag one contractor, before I had to go to an undisclosed DL site. I observed the other site, and again bagged another contractor hiring DLs off the street.

I got some intel on yet another site, so I went 15 miles out of my way to drive by it. I drove abot 100 miles yesterday.

No doubt on the 10th, you will declare our defeat when we show with 50, and the racist sep goons that you hand with have 100 or more. Of course, when 15 of the Mexica movement show, its a "formidable and organized display".

When you can not face the fact, change the subject. You have learned from your masters quite well.

On the 10th, we will once again achieve our goal, and you will once again get on this site that you think the whole world looks at, and give your spin on the events of the day.

FYI, I can read quite well, and do not ignore facts like most of the racist hypocrites on your side of the street.

SaveOurState takes the position of:

1. They should secure employment in a legal manor, and in their Counrty of or.

2. We believe in the rule of law being universally applied This means that Foreign Nationals need to go thru the proper channels before obtaining employment.

The goons that stand by your side Leslie believe only that the world is one big area to roam in, and do whatever you wish. There is only one word to describe this state of mind.....delusional.

to the "gang" again

by Leslie Tuesday, Dec. 06, 2005 at 1:00 AM

BR--

>>[Every alien is illegal until proven otherwise, especially at a day labor site.]

And that's why I call you a xenophobe--and a racist.

I don't see *any* college graduates at the day labor sites. I don't see any employers there who's qualifications include a college degree. But college graduates are welcome to be there, as far as I know, but they don't show up. So that leaves 2 options: college graduates aren't capable of doing day labor, or college graduates don't want to do day labor. Where are all these citizens you claim want these jobs? Why aren't they at the day labor centers?

And how do you know these employers aren't collecting I-9s? How do you know they're not withholding the requisite taxes? Are you doing the audits? Y'alll are big on assumptions over there. Whatcha got against the free market, for crying out loud? Or is that only for corporate expansion?

To Don--

>>Are you mad the the yellow spin jig is up ?

Huh??????

You figured out that I didn't "declare a victory" when you scoured my report on Burbank and couldn't find it--but you do like putting words in my mouth. Mexica Movement was formidable and organized, and you fools weren't; that's what I said, and that much was obvious. When a small group shows discipline and determination, and the larger group does the Bunny Hop as a show of "force" and leaves members to fend for themselves, then it's fair to say that the smaller group out-organized and out-disciplined the larger group. Small groups sometimes win, with better organization and discipline. And if we outnumber you in Glendale, I'll post that, too. Bet on it.

There's law and then there's Law. Ask Old Preach. Never mind--Old Preach lost sight of that a while ago.

To Bush Admirer--

Oh, gawd, you're annoying. Yes, if he had skills I needed for a value we agreed on, I'd hire him. I like long hair on guys.

Unemployment

by Abraham Wednesday, Dec. 07, 2005 at 7:00 AM

" the guys there seemed to prefer it to SOS's option for them--unemployment."

The employment situation of illegal aliens at day labor sites is not American's responsibility, it is primarily Viscente Fox's responsibility. If he was a true leader, he would demand the 15 WHITE billionaires that run Mexico double the amount of taxes they pay (to the same level comparable American billionaires pay), to be used for job creating education, infrastructure, and law enforcement in Mexico.

Viscente would also put an import duty on subsidized corn grown in America, which would increase corn production/jobs in Mexico.

Modest Proposal: Let black Los Angeles decide Williams' fate

by Ted Hayes Wednesday, Dec. 07, 2005 at 7:20 AM

reposted from the Los Angeles Times

Ted Hayes was the spokesperson for Save Our State at their recent Burbank rally.

December 4, 2005

I PROPOSE that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, rather than unequivocally deciding to save Stanley Tookie Williams or send the convicted murderer to his death next week, instead conditionally postpone his execution.

The governor should then immediately convene a summit, including not only clergy, grass-roots leaders and elected representatives such as Maxine Waters and Diane Watson, but also current and former Bloods and Crips. The deal: He will spare Williams' life, but only as long as these leaders can keep young black men from killing each other.

In other words, for every 30 days of peace, Tookie receives a stay of execution. Should there be any gang-related killings in L.A., Tookie's fate will be sealed — not by the governor but by the young men who have been clamoring that Williams be spared and the leaders who say they are determined to save black lives. (And those leaders should be the ones to set the murder-acceptability level — at zero tolerance or massacre levels; let it be up to them.)

This is an opportunity to (1) empower young blacks to play a role in saving one of their own; (2) educate them on the role of nonviolent solutions to societal problems; (3) let African American leaders step up and do what they're always talking about — saving children and healing the brokenness in our community.

Full Employment

by johnk Wednesday, Dec. 07, 2005 at 10:28 AM

>> "The laborers are filling a niche in an economy that can't guarantee 100% employment." 2005

This doesn't make sense on two levels.

First, "filling a niche" and "can't guarantee 100% employment" have no relationship. I believe the pro-immigrant line is that the laborers are filling a "need" and a necessary part of the economy.

The second issue is the claim, by the anti-immigrant side, that if the immigrants weren't here, there would be 100% employment. This is not possible, because as the supply of labor dries up, the price of labor rises, and the instability in labor prices causes business to stop hiring. Then, inflation kicks in (lowering everyone's real wages).

Immigration allows us to enjoy a high growth rate, and low inflation. If that's your goal, you need immigration.

If you want slower growth, you can cut back on immigration. You eliminate population growth, and you lose the benefits of a constant stream of new workers entering who were educated on someone else's dime. A little inflation will kick in, but it can be stabilized. The only "problem" will be that, over time, due to lack of growth comparable to other countries, the overall power of the US will decline.

Won't Work

by johnk Wednesday, Dec. 07, 2005 at 10:43 AM

That wouldn't work. A gangster who kills doesn't care much about human life -- and let's face it, the ones who go out and kill their rival might not really give a damn about Tookie, or might want to kill Tookie too, and feel like he'd get a 2-for-1 deal on murder. Kill a Crip and get Tookie as a bonus. Also, it's motivation for a cop to kill a gangster, and blame it on the rival gang. Again, it's a 2-for-1 murder bonus.

The key is accountability. Without accountability, you can't have a real contract.

Aside from that, maybe this *is* a potentially good idea, if you can get specific individuals to pledge to get out of the gang life. Say, if one gangster every other day pledges to get out, Tookie lives another day. It's very sick and inhumane to do this, though.

You're Wrong Again

frice@skeptictank.org

> The employment situation of illegal aliens at day

Wrong!

The fault is with NAFTA and the fascist United States. Now it's with CAFTA which is an even bigger human rights atrocity inflicted against South America by the United States.

It's amusing. Remembner this mass murdering fascist butcher proclaiming "They hate us for our freedoms" when his Saudi Arabian corporate buddies attacked New York? As if the consequences of the crimes the United States commits against the rest of the world doesn't factor one iota into how things really work out in the real world.

NAFTA is genocide, deliberate and planned genocide. It ensures that brown people will be starving slaves whose survivors comprise a cheap labor pool for rich white American males.

Fox is a crook, you say? Name _one_ politician that isn't. But don't go trying to blame the US's atrocities against South America on Fox _or_ the US's victims.

Ali Mohammed trained seven Middle Eastern men in bomb making skills for the 1993 WTC attacks with the knowledge and approval of the FBI, DOJ and US Attorneys including Michael Chertoff and Patrick Fitzgerald. Bomb maker Emad Salem had recruited the seven men. Salem was paid to do this by the FBI according to 1993 WTC trial documents. The seven men trained by Ali Mohammed were associated with a Brooklyn mosque infiltrated by the FBI and included Anis and Asad Siddiqy, Mohammed Chafti, and Mr.Yassin. The bomb making materials used by the Ali Mohammed trained men were purchased with FBI provocateur Melvin Lattimore’s credit card.

" -FBI Chief Robert Mueller admitted on September 20 and on September 27 that at this time the FBI has no legal proof to prove the true identities of the suicidal hijackers."

As with most of your silly con theory delusions, this one also is forged in sophomoric interpretations of facts and outright lies.

The FBI may in fact not be able to 100% identify all of the 19 hijackers without a shred of doubt. That however, is a hell of a long way away from them knowing absolutely that 19 arab savages with perhaps questionable identifications hijacked airplanes on 9-11. If it's the names of the hijackers you're most interested in then I guess you're out of luck and ultimately unsatisfied. If, however, the important thing to you is that the hijackers were clearly muslim arab terrorists then rest assured.

And as for your gem of a stat that 50% of New Yorkers share your conspiracy theory view of the attacks, well, what can I say? Your schizophrenia runs deep and is based on many similar fantasies.

Now, by this "guy in acave" are you speaking of the Arab multi-millionaire who you actually claim was trained and funded by the CIA to become the arch terrorist that you blame the US for creating?

Is that the guy?

If so, then yes. That's who I'm talking about.

And as for the planes flying unfettered in our airspace (there was actually no going "in and out"), well, I'll be the first to agree to the ineptitude of those in control of that system.

But the fact remains. A conspiracy on the scale that has you hiding in the woods with your natural deodorant and your saline tablets just simply doesn't go uncovered. And you having wet dreams about it doesn't count as exposure.

Your fantasies have no basis in fact or evidence. Just fear, delusion and a seemingly deep hatred of the US and Jews.

-A few hours later, the five Israelis were stopped by police while driving their truck. One individual had $4,700 in cash hidden in his sock, while another had two foreign passports. They were also found to be in the possession of a box- cutter, which they presumably had because of their job as professional movers. [New York Times 10/8/01; Gotham Gazette 11/2/01; ABC News, 6/21/02]-
-[ABC News 6/21/02], “Three months later 20/20's cameras photographed the inside of Urban Moving, and it looked as if the business had been shut down in a big hurry. Cell phones were lying around; office phones were still connected; and the property of dozens of clients remained in the warehouse. The owner had also cleared out of his New Jersey home, put it up for sale and returned with his family to Israel.” [New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, 12/13/01; Gotham Gazette 11/2/01; ABC News, 6/21/02; Forward, 3/15/02]

Shortly after the arrest of the men, FBI officials suspected that the Urban Moving company was an Israeli intelligence front. Vince Cannistraro, a former chief of operations for counterterrorism, told ABC News that the FBI was concerned that the moving company had been “set up or exploited for the purpose of launching an intelligence operation against radical Islamists in the area, particularly in the New Jersey-New York area.” [ABC News, 6/21/02]

The five employees that were taken into custody were all former members of the Israeli Army. After being transferred to jail, the FBI’s Criminal Division sent the case to the Counterintelligence Section on account of suspicions that they were Israeli spies. They were then detained for more that two months. Some of them spent 40 days in solitary confinement. [New York Times 11/21/01; ABC News, 6/21/02]

So you claimed. Have any evidence?

A legitimate URL for a falsifiable source would be nice.

Thanks.

Wrong, dumb ass. Atta was -- and still is -- a CIA "asset" -- who was working for the same fascist mass murdering Bush cabal that's currently commiting crimes against humanity and treason against America. There's pretend "investigations" by this fascist regime into why "Able Danger" was and is an employee of the United States.

What, you some FOX "News" Syndrome moron or something? Can't watch real news for some reason? Still buying this baby killing Christian regime's endless lies like some frocking idiot?

The Bush regime ordered the September 11'th attacks -- no question. Zero. None.

LOL!

by fresca Friday, Dec. 09, 2005 at 4:26 AM

I see the openminded censors of indymedia have struck again to keep the lines free of any harsh commentary.

My post last night congratulating sheepdog for getting to his usual hatred of Jews in the form of the oft trooted out cyber nonsense of the "dancing Israeli's" in less then four or five posts has been purged.

Well done indymedia! Well done!

Keep the lines free and clear for all Jew Hating schizophrenics.

The dancing Israelis is alsmost as enjoyable as the mysterious "push calls" cyber hoax.

Airlines Used on 9-11 Targeted by Short-Selling Before Attack

Financial transactions in the days before the attack suggest that certain individuals tried to use foreknowledge of the attack to reap huge profits. The transactions included purchases of five-year U.S. Treasury notes and the purchase of put options on United Airlines and American Airlines, the two airlines used in the attack.-
-Between September 6 and 7, the Chicago Board Options Exchange saw purchases of 4,744 put options on United Airlines, but only 396 call options. Assuming that 4,000 of the options were bought by people with advance knowledge of the imminent attacks, these insiders would have profited by almost $5 million.

for the rest of the story

by Hi!, me again Friday, Dec. 09, 2005 at 4:56 AM

On September 10, 4,516 put options on American Airlines were bought on the Chicago exchange, compared to only 748 call options. Again, there was no news at that point to justify this imbalance; Again, assuming that 4,000 of these options trades represent insiders, they would represent a gain of about $4 million.

[The levels of put options purchased above were more than six times higher than normal.]

No similar trading in other airlines occurred on the Chicago exchange in the days immediately preceding Black Tuesday.

Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co., which occupied 22 floors of the World Trade Center, saw 2,157 of its October $45 put options bought in the three trading days before Black Tuesday; this compares to an average of 27 contracts per day before September 6. Morgan Stanley's share price fell from $48.90 to $42.50 in the aftermath of the attacks. Assuming that 2,000 of these options contracts were bought based upon knowledge of the approaching attacks, their purchasers could have profited by at least $1.2 million.

Exactly! Excellent stuff.

Of course, more great cyber myth with references from dime a dozen vanity conspiracy sites.

No actual id's or investigations of those who made these calls. Of course not. Just alot of hearsay.

let's sum up the myths.

Dancing Israeli's point to the Mossad.
An ahem, rocket hit the pentagon.
Oh, and these mysterious put calls.

All very hard evidence pointing to...... remote controlled airplanes!

You fools will believe anything that's formatted in HTML.

I love it.

One more time--neo-nazi on SOS

by Border Raven Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005 at 3:08 AM

No foo', what you see are pictures, linked from another website, being downloaded, to the SOS server, since the SOS site software or policy, does not allow the direct upload of pictures.

If you right-click on the picture in SOS, you will see where they are from.

Nice try though.

xenophobe--and a racist

by Border Raven Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005 at 3:28 AM

>>[Every alien is illegal until proven otherwise, especially at a day labor site.]

""And that's why I call you a xenophobe--and a racist. ""

Leslie, xenophobia is a fear of different people. I am not afraid. I kill what makes me afraid.

What is your charge of racism based on?

As you look around at the day laborers, you observe they are all appear to have come from the same part of the continent or the same village. This is de-facto, or a matter of fact, and beyond my control.

I could care less, if they all looked white, yellow, green or purple, there are too many idle people seeking work, there is not enough work available for everyone (1), and we are not in a major depression, like the USA experienced back in the late 1920's, yet.

(1) Glendale, CA Police Day Labor Project
'The truth is, that there are more day laborers on our streets than our local economy can employ or sustain.'
Source: http://www.ci.glendale.ca.us/police/day_labor.asp?pageid=2

I thought the point was that the images are linked from the stormfront server. That means the user may have an account on stormfront and is using it to host an image on SOS.

Umm, that picture, was part of pentagonal's signature, and since SOS software don't allow pictures to be hosted on their server, all pictures are linked to the source serve.

But, you are right, you are not computer savvy.
