11/8 ELECTION DAY is TODAY. VOTE TODAY

by ! Wednesday, Nov. 09, 2005 at 5:02 AM

Today is ELECTION DAY. The first thing you will do is VOTE TODAY! The polling places are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Remember to Nix the First Six, so Vote No on 73-78; Yes on 79 and 80.

Today is ELECTION DAY. The first thing you will do is VOTE TODAY! The polling places are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Remember to Nix the First Six, so Vote No on 73-78; Yes on 79 and 80.

Your polling place is on the back of your County booklet. It can also be found at the Voter Assistance Hotline at line at 1-800-345-VOTE or, for all counties, at:
http://ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_ppl.htm

You can also vote at your County Registrar of Voters, found at:
http://ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_ppl.htm

Election results for all counties may be found at:
http://vote2005.ss.ca.gov/

The first results at 8 p.m. or 8:30 p.m. will just be the absentees, which tend to be the most conservative, so do not get upset. It will be a close race and we have to wait for Los Angeles County to report, so we will not have a good idea of what the final results may be until 10 p.m., and much better results at 11 p.m.

The weather is clear now and is expected to be dry most of the day, so vote early. After all, you go shopping, go to work and to school in all kinds of weather, so you can certainly vote in any weather, and today is reasonably good for the season.

Solidarity forever!

Misunderstood Prop 80

by Roger, Gone Green Wednesday, Nov. 09, 2005 at 1:00 PM
easygreen@snarfbargle.com

I'm afraid you have misread Prop 80, your recomendation on it is counter to all your other recomendations. Prop 80 does several bad things, even as it tries to do some good. In the end, it deserves a NO vote.

Prop 80:

-- Removes your right to buy electricity from someone other than the local utility. If you want all green power -- or all nuclear for that matter -- you can't get it.

-- The 20% renewable requirement is already the law, it just moves it up from 2017 to 2010. Most utilities were going to do it by 2010 easily anyway. Turns out, in SD for example, renewable is CHEAPER!!

-- Makes it harder for individuals to put solar on their own homes. My house runs between 90-110% off solar. Under Prop. 80 that would not have been easily possible.

Now is the Hour for Public Power

by ! Wednesday, Nov. 09, 2005 at 6:33 PM

Prop 80 is a worthy attempt to restore regulation. As to changing private utilities, socialists like myself are opposed to all private profit utilities; we want public power, and so does the Green Party. As to putting solar in your home, which is a worthy cause and will be realized with other legislation, most of the workingclass, those of us who sell our labor for less than $70,000 a year, usually much less, do not own our home, or if we own a little shack, we do not make enough to itemize and thus cannot enjoy its primary purpose, to be a tax shelter. If you make less than $100,000 a year, a house is not a tax shelter as you do not make enough to itemize deductions, and no worker's regular wages are $100,000 a year. Prop 80 is not the last of these kinds of initiatives, it is the beginning of the turn around. Solar power will be actively encouraged on an expedited basis on all future initiatives and through the Legislature. This battle is far from over; it has just begun.

By the way, Los Angeles, Palo Alto and other cities have public power. They are not about to switch to any private utility as public power is the only sane way to go and benefits from promoting solar power.

This initiative is a direct result both of the fact that Democrats & Republicans in the Legislature voted unanimously to repeal regulation and to this date, have not voted unanimously to restore regulation, or better yet, install public power. The socialist Peace & Freedom Party and the Green Party are for public power, which is one reason why only these two parties are viable. Do not vote for any registered Democrat or Republican for any office as those two parties are rotten to the core and must be cast into the dustbin of history immediately.

Vote Yes on 79 and 80, Nix the First Six, No on 73 through 78. PLEASE VOTE TODAY.
