LA's UnNaked World Bike Ride

by Vinyasi Wednesday, Jun. 16, 2004 at 4:01 PM

It must have been my emails to all the city council members of Santa Monica who supported the onslaught of three to four dozen police officers who greeted us would-be, naked, cycling protestors of Oil Dependency with a paddy wagon, dune buggies, cycling escorts of their own, and video taping equipment. Who ever thought LA might be boring?

How I look painted up in liquid latex the day before a beach ride with it on.

MY BLUE, LATEX, BIRTHDAY SUIT --- FRONT VIEW MY BLUE, LATEX, BIRTHDAY SUIT --- BACK VIEW MY BLUE, LATEX, BIRTHDAY SUIT --- SIDE VIEW

Author: Vinyasi, Date: Tue, 25 May 2004 18:34:00 -0700
"Since this was my birthday, I made certain to make the most of it by riding all the way from a few blocks east of the beach along Washington Blvd., up the bike path, and returning at the far north end of Will Rogers beach parking lot (17 miles in two hours). I passed four police vehicles, all of them with persons inside, and no more than five yards distant from myself (one was two inches). My attire? Bike helmet, long yellow scarf tied 'round the neck, thin flexible shoes with black ankle socks, bike gloves, and a full length body suit in blue latex. There was only the tiniest of hole at my penis tip, and assorted rips and tears up my butt (which I carefully avoided bending over to expose) and in my arm pits, etc. A few people noticed my attire, some giggled, and one gave a whistle intended for sexy-looking women. Last night I came very close to ripping it all off, but stymied myself with: "Hey, hang in there twelve more hours". It has been horrendous self-torture avoiding bathing, bouts of itchiness, unrelenting sweaty buildup, my sensitivity to ammonia (in the liquid body paint absorbed through the skin) giving me heart palpatations and depression for the rest of the day, new rips appearing every morning from having warn the same painted application for several days, nightly sweats, you name it --- it's bitchin'! All the more reason to insure that I get as much mileage as possible out of it. But I think I'll just paint a torso suit next time to avoid the troublesome rips in crotch and armpits. The butt crack will probably always give problems unless I switch to another paint."

It has been reported on the internet that the simplest body paint can be made of only three ingredients: water, sugar (a binding medium), and dye (naturally derived from plants or synthetic, such as: food coloring):

"Add some sugar to create a binding medium which will produce water colours in powder form. Add water to achieve brilliant, vegetable-based colours. Concentrated applications are glossy, in dilutions the appearance is matt. No other binding media should be added, except to red beets, elderberry and vegetable black, which can be mixed with acrylic."

If you're not inclined to use this recipe, then go to the market and get some "KoolAid". It reportedly works.

  • Wild saffron
Vibrant warm yellow, changing to a brownish, paler shade when exposed to sunlight.
  • Gardenia
Orange hue, which turns reddish when exposed to light.
  • Paprika
Intense dark red, with a slightly bluish cast. It darkens further when exposed to light. Most lightfast of the vegetable colours.
  • Red beets
            Fairly lightfast dark pink.
  • Elderberry
Dark violet, changes to black when exposed to sunlight.
  • Japanese blue algae
Cerulean blue hue, pales to grey in sunlight.
  • Red cabbage
Similar to a greenish cobalt blue, pales to grey in sunlight.
  • Dyer's thistle
Yellowish ochre colour, turns lighter in sunlight.
  • Stinging nettle
Green earth hue, looses its yellowish cast when exposed to sunlight.
  • Leaf green
            Spinach green. Fairly stable.
  • Indian date
Reddish brown, similar to a burnt umber. One of the most lightfast of the vegetable colours, along with red beets, paprika and leaf green.
  • Vegetable charcoal
            Black. Very lightfast.

Contact the webmaster / coordinator for future events here in LA, or visit its website, or its homesite.

And while you're add it, support your local police. They do a fine job, don't they? But don't bother honoring your civic, state, and federal representatives with anything other than a "Thank You For Teaching Me Who You Are" whenever it comes to matters of your public nudity, unless you live in a very compassionate community / state / country, or are reading this message from a time capsule.

NO ONE WANTS TO SEE A NAKED PROTESTOR UNLESS IT'S TRACI BINGHAM (AND SHE'S AN IDIOT).

i'm so glad to see the (almost) naked bike ride happened in LA. it's great to see people excercising their freedom of expression -- come august and i'll be wishing all clothing was optional.
