A majority of persons who voted in the October 7th special election cast their ballots for candidates other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. They voted against him.
The following calculations are based on information that was posted on the California Secretary of State WWW site as of 8:57 a.m. this morning. I expect this data to change slightly over the course of the next few weeks as thousands of other ballots are counted and tabulated. Despite claims of a "landslide victory" for Arnold Schwarzenegger, the numbers clearly show that he has NO mandate to govern California So far, the numbers indicate that about 51.7% of those persons who cast ballots in this election voted for candidates OTHER than Schwarzenegger. Since Schwarzenegger did not win a majority of the vote in this election, he cannot claim that his views and ideas represent the will of the electorate. Sincerely, Duane J. They're losing their power, which is everything to these liberals. Seems the citizens of California just can't be trusted with something as important as who's in office.
These liberals don't trust the people, they don't trust elections, they want to control thought, they want to control speech, they want to control rather than govern. These liberals idea of freedom is for everyone to do what they say.
And so we get posts like two above.
The panic begins.

let me preface this comment by saying that I voted against the recall but selected bustamante otherwise.
In looking at the votes the combined republican votes for schwarnegger and mcclintock dwarfed the democratic alternative bustamante
i hope that someone looks into this since it makes be wonder what sort of turnout there was and whether a lot of democrats crossed over

Hey Duane, while it is true that the Governor Elect received only 48% of the popular vote, but, why dont you check your facts before you open your pie hole. The current Governor received 47% of the popular vote, so what does that mean? Davis had 2 or 3 people to run against. Arnold had 134.
By the way, are you still wearing that STUPID looking hat????

Clinton cured everyone of caring about sexual harrassment. It has nothing to do with the job of being president. The people don't care. It's time to move on.

Regardless of who you wanted to win the election, in any competitive election in the U.S. the winner seldom gets a simple majority of the votes. Fringe candidates from other parties (Green, Libertarian, Socialist, etc.) take enough of the vote to keep this from happening. If this is so important to you Duane, maybe you should advocate the abolition of all candidates that aren't Republican or Democratic.

I disagree with Lee's assertion that we should make it more difficult for the candidates of political parties other than Democrats or Republicans from qualifying for the ballot. If anything, I think instituting a system of Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) here in California would completely eliminate the problem of candidates not getting a majority of the vote. See the following URL for more information: http://www.fairvote.org/irv/ And John is right when he argues Gray Davis got 47% of the vote in the November 2002 election. Like Schwarzenegger, he too had no "mandate" to govern California. That's part of the reason why he was recalled. Sincerely, Duane J. Roberts duaneroberts92804@yahoo.com

You gotta be shittin me! Any true-blue native Californian like myself could see this one as soon as Arnold became a candidate. Besides the sheer "novelty" of the man, he is strong on politics which concern REAL Californians. 1. The state of California has the single largest economy of any state in the Union. http://commerce.ca.gov/state/ttca/ttca_homepage.jsp a.) The $9 billion loss incurred by Davis as a result of the Enron scandal is barely a ripple compared to the Gross State Income. b.) Calls on this site to "boycott California" are drug induced blurtings of morons. The economy of California is the 5th largest in the WORLD, and it doesnt depend on any income from you left wing whiners (most of whom dont have a decent job anyway), or you sign-carrying, low income imbeciles who dont pay much in taxes. 2.) One look at Arnold, and one look at the seriously DAMAGED beotches who claimed that Arnold "groped" them tells the story. First of all, how did the cows even get that close to him? They were sidling up to him HOPING to get groped. Californians are not that naive, and the tired old "he's a pervert!" trick has gotten old, and it doesnt work anymore. 3.) Hispanics are the majority ethnic group in California. Unfortunately (for them), a vary large percentage of them are ILLEGAL ALIENS (fuck that "undocumented workers" crap). Hence, they CANNOT VOTE. The legal Hispanic citizens stand to lose if legislation is passed which allows the ILLEGAL invaders to more easily break the laws here. 4.) The tax base in California is skewed towards the poor and against the wealthy, therefore , causing a situation which might make them leave the state will ALWAYS be dropped. If you make less than $50K a year, you dont really get the picture. If you make $60K or more, you feel the pinch. If you make $100K or more, you REALLY feel it.. Those people making more than $200K a year are running businesses which employ lots of Californians. Screw them and you screw California. BOTTOM LINE: You left wing fuckwads dont know the first thing about responsibility. You have the Sherman Austins who irresponsibly create terrorist websites and end up in prison, and you have sign-carrying morons who could be burning that energy by working in a job, and you have a bunch of bull-dagger dyke bitches calling themselves "Code Pink" who dig up "groping" stories to win an election by low-blow politics. PATHETIC. Get a JOB, Get a LIFE or GET THE FUCK OUT.

Earlier this year, the Gator Corporation, an online marketing firm, conducted an extensive poll of internet users in California, asking them how they felt about the recall. At that time, the results strongly hinted that more than 1/3 of all Democrats would vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger in any future special election. Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante's very weak performance in this special election indicates to me the poll they conducted was surprisingly accurate. Sincerely, Duane J. Roberts duaneroberts92804@yahoo.com http://www.gatorcorporation.com/companyinfo/press/pr030723.html Schwarzenegger vs. any Democrat: 63% of all respondents stated they would vote for Schwarzenegger 30% of Davis supporters stated they would vote for Schwarzenegger 35% of Democrat respondents stated they would vote for Schwarzenegger When told of the results, George Gorton, Schwarzenegger's political adviser said, "I am delighted. This is the third poll we've seen where Arnold beats Feinstein and the latest in an unbroken string where he beats Davis. We are especially pleased with The Gator Corporation's findings because Internet users are more informed than the average voter, and therefore their opinions should closely approximate the opinions of the highly motivated voters who will show up in this low turn out special election."
