what happened?

by 7 Saturday, Aug. 02, 2003 at 12:53 PM

could someone from the imc explain what happened to the website for the past i don't know how many hours?

could someone from the imc explain what happened to the website for the past i don't know how many hours?

i know this kind of thing is bound to happen now and then but it would cure at least some of my frustration if i know *why* it went down. ..

20+hrs lost function in last two days - no explanation, no nothing

by lynx-13 Sunday, Aug. 03, 2003 at 1:26 AM

it's sad that whoever is managing the technical end doesn't care enough to ask for help - or even tell us what is going on.

by my count la-imc lost funtion for more than twenty hours out of the last two days.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
your mysterious breakdown

2. la-imc should publicly post explanations of significant or total losses of funtcion as soon as possible after the lapses occur. when explanations are unavailable for any reason, that should also be posted. these notices should tell imc users how they can help. all this info should be highly visible.

shouldn't minutes from la-imc meetings be posted publicly on the la-imc website?

some transparency at AZ-IMC.... still none here.

by lynx-13 Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003 at 10:22 AM

In contrast to the active ignorance of the need for transparency at LA-IMC, 'Jeff' at AZ-IMC is at least answering numerous queries about losses of site function at AZ-IMC.

'Jeff' at AZ-IMC here tries to shed some light on "Arizona Indymedia Technical Problems"

too bad nobody in LA-IMC collective is interested in dealing with the same things here in a principled transparent way.

reply to 'Jeff' - (for some reason this comment is displayed in a different thread than where it was posted)

a related dialogue with 'Jeff'

"....an opportunity for resume building [for] privleged white liberals....."
"if only IMC meant more threads like this one from NYC-IMC...."

no transparency at LA-IMC

no transparency at L...

to LA-IMC Collective: having problems (with "your" site)? don't worry - someday you won't be so ashamed to ask for help (with "your" site). and then your problems will probably be solved (by us).

in the meantime.....

some transparency at AZ-IMC.... still none here.
about the way our IMC sites work....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8/02/03:
it seems like "latest comments" pages, like the one at la-imc, are being abandoned instead of improved. this is especially sad because the IMC was started in order to facilitate constructive interaction. the IMC has set the standard for alternative internet journalism networking and the only reason to turn away from interactivity at this point is in order to rob the IMC of some of its nascent potential. solutions to problems caused by so-called flame wars are abundant without abandoning the inspiring and legitimate demand for free, open, and constructive dialogue. internationally, IMC's could easily feature more and more useful, free, and constructive boards and forums that are interactive and journalistic. the abandonment of "latest comments" pages is a step away from interactivity, a step in the wrong direction.

why?

by Sheepdog to Collective Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003 at 10:06 AM

This site is wasting away.
Do you people even care?
Is this some indulgent hobby shop or are you being assaulted by external
problems beyond your ability to deal with.? I thought you folk had swapped servers. WHAT THE HELL is
going on? Is lynx 13 the only one who cares?
Why doesn't IMC SF have these problems, is it because they care enough
to be actual activists? Some effective decisions need to be made regarding this news wire beyond occasional editing. This blows chunks.

Sheepdog & lynx-13

by answers Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003 at 10:39 AM

How DO you people get dressed in the morning?

LA-IMC is not like SF-IMC. SF-IMC has nessie who has nothing better to do than to control the comments board. This place experiences problems like any site, but they are unable to keep up with them. Why?

Simple answer: They don't have the bodies. That's right. The answer was to be found on their inter-office memos that used to be on the net should you have cared to look. In a city and surrounding area of 10-15 million people, there is only a handfew who even cares if this place exist, and of those that do care, they don't have the time to monitor it 24/7/365. In fact, they are constantly having to trade out with each other because of conflicts that arise. It was also noted that turnover at IMC's everywhere are a real problem. And why not. It gets frustrating in any movement to put out all this effort and yet as 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, 50 years pass, the movement is no closer to accomplishing anything that when they first started. Which is what we've been pointing out all along, you're a bunch of losers going nowhere.

Now, quit bitching and entertain us while the lights are still working.

I agree with Agent B

by Agent A Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003 at 11:15 AM

LA IMC is run by Manny, Moe, and Jack of the socialist Pep Boys Collective. They don't have enough people amongst them to keep this place up, let alone respond to your chronic whining. Had you have read the inter-office memos, you too would know everything about these loons, just the same as we paid shills.

Now shut your pie holes and make with the comedy.

Don't you Retards Ever get Bored of this Rediculous Site

by Amazed and Confused Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003 at 4:01 PM

About 5 months ago, I visited this site every day just to get a good laugh, but now I see that the same morons are still here promoting their useless bullshit to what they think is the rest of the world. Please move out of your parents basement sometime soon! You aren't fooling anyone-- everyone knows how dumb you all really are--- and you know who you are (sheepdog, KPC) to name a few. Nobody cares what you have to say so who is it that you think you are influencing???? Bush Admirer, why do you waste your time aguing with these fools? You should be promoting the Bush campaign!!! Please take my advice and block this website from your browser so it can't contaminate anyone else who uses your computer. This site is so full of bullshit and half truths that it makes me sick that anyone could take any of it seriously!! Try to check out the Fox Report every night and you will hear it fair and balanced, the way it should be heard!

Not really.

If we has a shill, he deserved it.

If he actually believed the tripe he posted, he deserved it.

Still, it's kinda quiet without him around. There's nobody here to fill the Pompous Stuffed Shirt role. Parmenides tries, but doesn't grace us mere mortals with his presence often enough.

KPC and Sheepdog are too obscene. Systemfailure is too reality-challenged. Meyer is too weird.

Won't somebody get all high and mighty and talk down to us like Dio did?
