KPFK Announces the Departure of Host Marc Cooper

Los Angeles, CA -- KPFK (90.7 FM) announces the departure

of afternoon host Marc Cooper. Cooper, a journalist

who is also a contributing editor to The Nation and a

columnist for the LA Weekly, is leaving KPFK after

five years to pursue other journalism opportunities.

"Marc Cooper is a fine journalist, we appreciate the

work he's done at KPFK over the years, and look

forward to his continued efforts on Radio Nation,"

said Steven Starr, KPFK's interim general manager.

"I've had a great five year run here," said Cooper.

Radio Nation, co-produced by KPFK and The Nation

Institute, and anchored by Marc Cooper, will continue

to air on KPFK.

For five years Cooper did his best to prevent KPFK listeners from learning about the slow motion effort to dismantle Pacifica as a voice for pacifism.

I am sooooo glad Cooper is gone! His attitude was more befitting of an AM right wing talk show than KPFK. Every time I accidentally turned on KPFK while he was on, I would get so annoyed that I would want to call and tell him off. He is an authoritarian self-centered jerk!

And just a little note on the above post: as a queer, I find the above post about Cooper and Shubb sucking cocks an insult to all queers! Please don't equate those awful men with queers and perpetuate homophobia!

If you're going to dis the man, at least have the intelligence to use facts (see Gunther, Novick, or Vallen). And, if you're going to celebrate, at least do it politely in public (see Starr).

A stronger, better KPFK is the only vindication of any of this fighting which has consumed the energy of leftists across the continent.
