A Call to Action to Expose our False Democracy: Protest the Inauguration!
by Shameka Holden 1:16pm Thu Nov 9 '00
The political turmoil created by this fraudulent, hollow election
provides us a momentous opportunity to mobilize massive
resistance to the undemocratic nature of the state. On
inauguration day, we must take to the streets of Washington en
masse and demand control over the decisions that affect our
lives. No more election hypocrisy! No more bureaucratic
nonsense! Direct democracy now!... by any means necessary.
Now is the time to make preparations for what could be the loudest and most effective
demonstration against the validity of the state in decades. The American public is
confused and disturbed by the failure of its government to even appear to respond to
the will of the people. The outcome of the election has prompted many to criticize the
entire structure of the electoral process, arguably the most important function of the
state. We must seize this opportunity of unrest to send a message to the White House
and the general public that we will not accept nor observe the authority of a
bureaucratically elected regime which endorses capital punishment, institutionalized
racism, environmental degradation, worker exploitation, and the repression of political
opposition. No longer will we tolerate a state of the elites, by the elites and for the
elites. Anarchists, Greens, Socialists, Communists, and anyone else disgusted by the
failure of our political system to serve its people, mobilize! Several groups, most of
them condemning the death penalty and demanding clemency for political prisoners,
have already begun organizing marches and demonstrations for January 20th. Let's
join them in their efforts and bring our message to the rotten, corporate White House.
Down with the corporate reign of terror! Down with the disenfranchisement of a
"democratic" nation! Power to the people!

When you awaken from your pleasant dreams, will you take out the garbage, and R. Nader with it? You haven't had any power, you don't have any power, and there is no reason to believe you will ever have any power (I don't count running around in the street interfering with traffic as "power"). Nevertheless, posting rants on the web is harmless, so if you enjoy it, carry on with my best wishes.
Although there is obviously errors in the democratic system, and I in NO way endorse the current American political and social agenda, I do think it's a bit absurd to be calling for "direct democracy" in a coalition of Green, Anarchists and Communists. Let's examine it from the reformist perspective (that being the Greens), just looking at California, we had more direct democracy initiatives on the ballot than ever before. Anarchists, of course, this makes sense. Communists, well that depends on the model you follow, and seeing as few Communist countries ever get past the dictatorship of the "proletariat", it's hard to connect communism with direct democracy. What I'm asking for is a plan of action, not just a statement. I personally don't believe government can be reformed, but I suspect that the people endorsing this action do. I call upon them to offer insight as to how direct democracy can be integrated into the current American political system and disseminate this information to the people at the protest. Mindless protest is a risk that seems looming. Bring the knowledge down from the INPEG etc. hierarchy, and allow the people to debate between themselves. You can't blame the corporate media if no one has anything to say.
