Iowa senator and populist Tom Harkin is resigning from the US Senate. He has raised the quality of life for every Iowan in many decades of hard work. He has always been a popular senator. He and the Des Moines Register endorse Bruce Braley, whose opponent Joni Ernst has voted in the Iowa legislature to block women's access to contraceptives,and who endorses a personhood bill which would legally define every fertilized egg as a person. She has voted for a bill which would ban women who have been victims of rape or incest from having abortions. Ernst wants every human fertilized egg to be regarded as a person.
