latest research shows vitamin D supplements are worthless - only UVB exposure creates vitamin D that can do you any good. I make a point to get 10-20.min of *noon* sun every chance I get, even now (especially now) in the winter. The UVB only reaches the ground from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and the UVA & UVC has no benefits. People who live further north ~ boston, cannot get enough UVB during the winter even at noon. vitamin D is increasingly being revealed as protective against a wide range of disorders, IE; auto-immune disorders most of which the above posting blames on [primarily] meat.
just as agra-businesses have an agenda (make as much profit as possible by pushing nutrient poor high caloric monoculture foods) some of the cited websites above _also_ have an agenda of profit above all else. with them this translates into pushing supplements and speciality foods at high margins.

the amino acid issue is a good example
proteins break down into amino acids during cooking. generally the longer food is cooked the higher amino acid levels are. a pot of slow cooked soup is loaded with them. the only concern with amino acids are the _balance_. where added amino acids are a concern is when the protein levels in the food are low and the added amino acids create a huge spike in one or a few (the most common ones are glutamine, inositol and guanylate, usually as sodium salts) which leads to unbalanced amino acid intake. (note however that bodybuilders consume huge quantities of these with no ill effect)

What Are Antioxidants
