DANCE,DANCE,DANCE

by Dennis Stankie Friday, May. 25, 2012 at 12:02 PM

Thi s article is based on observing protests. The police has plans for how to deal with protestors. This is by opioion of a methodof dealing with these police plans

The problem with the demonstrations against the G-8 in Chicago were that the police stopped the protesters movement. The police surrounded the protesters and they stopped moving their feet. The results were that the front line of the protesters started to use

their arms which resulted in the police beating the demonstrators. This can be seen from the video's not only of Chicago but also this strategy was used in NY against OWS protesters. In NY, police used netting to capture the protesters and stop their feet. I saw this strategy used in La against street protest several years ago. The strategy is to surround protesters and stop their movement, or if you like progression. Today, thinking about this and the history of protests I realized picket lines from pass union strikes were required to keep moving. The civil rights protest used the same behavior;

keep the picket lines moving.

If you think about the psychology of protest's, demonstration's or picking ; it's objective is two fold. One is to draw attention to the issue. The second is to move the issue forward in the public's mind. Therefore, police employing their strategy by surrounding and controlling the movement, controls the protesters feet. The reaction of the protesters is to use their arms therefore causing the police to use the clubs. What better method of protest and attention gaining is then to dance!

Let's imagine dance contest between President Obama and Mitt Romney! These imagines may appear silly, funny or riotous but consider neither the Chicago

nor NY police force can dance. NOR WOULD THEY! If the protesters in Chicago would had considered this alternative, after being surrounded by the police

what a spectacle this could of been. Hundreds of protesters doing the "twist", the mashed potatoes", "the Bunny Hop" or "the Shimmy", dancing and defying control of their movement. How could the police then beat up on such a spectacle? Arrest a dancer?

I grew up with the best dance band of all time the grateful Dead.The Dead were known for many things including their non politics. Yet, from the start of their epic career to the time Jerry died they were always a dance band. The dead never stopped their dance and the music never stopped either. Music is continuing but dancing has slipped out of style, why? Can dancing protesters bring in a new dance era? Will politicians have TO DANCE WELL TO BE ELECTED?

Dancing is about moving the body. Social change is about moving people to change. There seems to be a interrelation between those that dance and those that

want to change society.
