The Real Mike Ross

First thing, his name is not Mike Ross. This is a variation of his real name and one of the many names he has used over his life.

He was born Michal Nicholas Villamanga sometime around 1952 though he has at various times claimed ages that place him from 40 to 60 at this writing.

He lived with his parents and his father’s income was enough to provide Mike with a private school education. Then in 1962 something odd happened. For some reason he was taken out of private school and given later exhibited behavior may have been expelled. In addition they changed their name to DiRoss and moved across town.

In their new location Mike was put into the public school system which he liked better than the private Catholic schools. In addition his family had more income than most of his fellow school children. If not a previous problem in his life then it was now that severe behavioral problems surfaced.

Mike was, and still is, very diminutive in stature. Physically unable to dominate those around him he sought to dominate others psychologically which is still part of his social interaction today.

It was in elementary school by at least 1963 that Mike developed a fascination with bombs and bombings that would stay with him the rest of his life. He studied how to make explosives and build bombs and then proceeded to do so. He financed his bomb building by theft and selling small bombs to other kids. His principal bomb for sale he sold to other children was an explosive packed metal CO/2 container.

During this time he began his criminal career by using his paper route to scout houses for him to break into and steal things. Not being a confrontational person, always a tiny little fellow, his primary target were garages where people in the house were still asleep when he delivered the morning paper. In addition he also stole radios and whatever else he could get out of parked cars. Joining in with some other neighborhood kids they stole from various places. He developed house breaking skills including lock picking. It was these burgler’s skills and as a provider of explosives that gave him some status among some of the other children.

His youthful bomb building came to a head with his arrest at the age of 15 in 1967. He was arrested after the investigation of a series of his bombings and arsons of the Hookaham School. He and another child, named in a newspaper article as “Charlie”, were charged with bombing the school. Charlie came clean and confessed that he and Mike, identified in the article as “Larry”, had previously planted and detonated a smaller bomb at the school and also previously set two fires at the school. The second bomb was the biggest and was duct taped to a door. The fuse set the duct tape on fire and the bomb fell loose causing less damage to be inflicted. Still it blew a hole through the door and blew the windows out. This was the school that Mike attended when his family changed their name and moved to that part of town, the school he enjoyed attending.

The newspaper reporter interviewed Mike’s father who told him that Mike was withdrawn from his family because he was unable to dominate his brothers and sisters. A friend who was interviewed told of Mike and “Charley” capturing a cat and torturing it to death by drawing and quartering it. To this day Mike keeps drawings of people being put to death by drawing and quartering.


Mike was convicted for the arsons and bombings and given a one year sentence in a juvenal facility, the sentence was reduced to probation.

Three years later in 1970 another arson occurred at the Hookaham School, this time in the boiler room causing extensive damage. The newspaper reported that a number of children were involved and being juveniles did not report their names. The paper did list the names of the parents who were being sued for their children’s actions and Mike’s parents were among them. It is unknown by me if Mike had come back to try again to burn down the school or if a sibling had taken part in this. He keeps photos of the school he tried to both blow up and burn down on his website like a serial killer’s trophy.

It was sometime during this time frame that Mike complains he was “kicked out of Arizona“. He did leave Arizona for awhile and traveled mostly in California.


Another significant incident was the suicide of one of his brothers. His brother had gone into the desert and killed himself after complaining of hearing voices. Auditory hallucinations are a common symptom of schizophrenia. This mental disorder has been shown to be a genetically transmitted disability. If one parent has it the odds of one of their children having it is established, this percentage doubles when both parents have the disorder. Being genetically transmitted and in a family of 5 children the odds are in favor of another child having the disorder. One of his many e-mail addresses was runutsmother, r u nuts mother / are you nuts mother?.

Mike continued to support himself by criminal activity principally drug dealing and stealing cars.

Mike returned to Arizona and was arrested for drug dealing in 1971. The charges were later dropped because the police reported the evidence was lost. Mike complains that this was a failed attempt by the police to frame him, that he was innocent because then he was then selling drugs other than what he was charged with selling. Still this is a confession of his crimes, he was a drug dealer. That he was innocent of any wrong doing and that other people were out to get him is a lifelong theme that continually is repeated. He claims he never does anything wrong, that bad people are just all out to get him.

He was still in possession of enough of his mental faculties to return to education and enrolled in the Cary Business School of the University of Arizona and graduated with a degree in computer sciences. He now had a college degree in an expanding field that offered job opportunities and with a sealed juvenal conviction record was in position to have a good life, but his mental health continued to deteriorate.

His paranoia was evident and he lived his life under different names which often were a variation of his name and the people and places he knew. He took from his attendance at the Cary Business School and became Michael N Kaery. Using this fake identity he purchased a house to live in. He would later purchase another house under the name DiRoss and began renting one of the homes out, not clear which one. He held onto the homes a few years and then lost them both. He claims that the government seized his homes “like the Nazi’s seized the homes of Jews” because he failed to mow his lawn and that the police were hunting him down with criminal warrants filed against him. The County Recorder’s Office records and court records show two things. That both homes were cited for being in disrepair needing exterior paint, fence repairs, dead trees removed or trimmed and un-mowed lawns, etc. On both properties Mike received a series of citations where if repairs were not made the city / county would make the repairs and bill him.

The city / county never collected any fines from Mike or made any repairs to the two properties he owned. This was because he was in default with his mortgages and the banks foreclosed on both properties. Mike was evicted from the properties and they were sold at public auction by the bank, they were never seized by the government.

Prior to the houses being foreclosed Mike was still trying to find people to dominate, people that would follow his commands, looking for another Charlie. He tried joining various groups by proclaiming that he shared their beliefs. One such group was the Arizona Secular Humanists and he did eventually got elected their President. But this did not last long as his own beliefs were contrary to those of ASH and he was kicked out of office. There were two major complaints. One that was he had a website that proclaimed “humanism sucks” and showed a man peeing on the ASH logo. The other was that he praised the actions of a man, called him his hero, who attempted to murder a government worker and was disappointed that the targeted woman was not killed. He claimed bitterly that he was kicked out by corrupt people who had unjustly and contrary to the ASH rules removed him from office. That he never did anything wrong and was the victim of people who meant to do him harm again surfaced. To this day anybody who kills or attacks a government employee he calls a “freedom fighter”.

Mike carries a grudge that he cannot let go of for anybody whom he feels persecuted him. One of the people was David Dorn and “death to David Dorn” and “@#%! David Dorn” are often repeated slogans even after more than 10 years. He put Dorn’s private information on the web such as SSN, address, phone number and even driver’s license number making Dorn vulnerable to identity theft.

In the Dorn case Mike attended an event hosted by Dorn. He was there standing next to a man who was taking photos. Dorn commented to Ernie Hancock that he did not know the two men but that he has seen he photographer taking photos at another event. Dorn commented that he suspected the photographer was a police informant and wondered who was with him. Ernie told Dorn that he knew Mike and that Mike was no informant. Ernie relayed this conversation to Mike to give him an opportunity to introduce himself to Dorn. Mike took it that Dorn was telling people that he was a “government snitch” and nothing Ernie could say could shake this delusion from Mike. Mike now blames Dorn if anyone does not like him because he thinks Dorn told them that he is a “government snitch”.

His last most successful effort to join a group by claiming their values was the Libertarian Party. While to this day he denounces the “nanny state” and all who depend on it’s services, especially the poor, he used any government service he could. At one time he used as his address that of the main government homeless shelter in Phoenix. He found the shelter too restricting and his favorite campsites are public parks and along the canals in the city. His principal camps are in San Tan Regional Park, South Mountain Park and Papago Park. He uses the hospital emergency rooms for his medical care because the laws he denounced requires them to treat him and he did not have to pay.

He has surviving brothers and sisters who offered him help but he continues the rejection of the family he could not dominate. Still they love him and have established a trust in his name. They even have a two bedroom condominium donated to the trust by one of his sisters sitting waiting for him to live in. Mike is aware of all this but choose to live in the taxpayer supported parks rather then in the home provided for him by his family.

He denounces public transportation and especially rants against the Phoenix light rail system which along with the public buses he also uses. When he can get one he likes having a bicycle to get around on but when travel is too far he boards the bus or light rail.

His main internet access is through the taxpayer supported public libraries.

During this time Mike’s antisocial behavior still leaned toward violence with the theme being getting others to commit the violent acts. He still praised anyone who would kill, attempt to kill or harm a government employee, elected officials not exempted.

Occasionally Mike has gotten a job and constantly seeks employment. The thing is he does not stay employed for long, often only a week. That is the time they give him to provide his Social Security id, when finally pressed for his missing SSN he claims the Fifth Amendment rights to not incriminate himself so out the door he goes. Sometimes he just seems to get fired shortly after being hired and this may be due to his behavior.


Mike has over the years worked around the country and during this time established various bank and utility accounts plus unclaimed paychecks from previous employers. He lost track of his accounts and after years of dormancy the funds were sent to the state for safe keeping in their unclaimed funds programs. Mike attempted to get his unclaimed money in the Phoenix area but his letter requesting the funds undid the effort. He could not help but state that if the State had any money of his they stole it because he had no unclaimed funds. This alone would get the claim round filed, he claimed he had no funds to claim. His paranoia, fear and hatred of authority would not let him just fill out the form and get the money, he had to include a counterproductive rant.

Mike has in excess of $10,000 waiting for him in various unclaimed funds accounts in several states, all he has to do is follow the procedure and get the money. But some of these funds are in variations of his name or one of his fake names and that should make it difficult to impossible for him to get all the funds back. But then he would have to be in a mental state competent enough to file properly for these funds and that looks unlikely.

Recently he appears to have been working for an IT consulting firm in Phoenix but his compulsion to surf and post to the net likely cost him this job. He had during working hours been using his employers computers for his web postings. He could go the library as he usually does or now that he had a pay check pay for his own net access but he can’t stop his behavior even when he knows it will put him back to sleeping in the parks.

What is with the real Mike Ross, DiRoss, Villamanga, Kaery and other names? I think the names stem back to the family having changed it’s name, perhaps to hide from some scandal.

He is not a Libertarian, humanist or anything else. He reminds me of the equally diminutive Charles Manson only Mike is not as good at dominating people and gathering followers. While those that know him consider him nonviolent he advocates violence. He is more non-confrontational than actually violent perhaps due to his diminutive size. The worrisome thing is his fascination with non confrontational weapons like bombs and poison, especially with his previous use of bombs and setting fires. Coupled with his professed skills at lock picking and previous burglary experience he has the ability to use these preferred weapons and an expressed a desire to harm others, generally any government employee and a number of named individuals.


That is the real Mike Ross or whatever he is calling himself.
