Pulongbayan with Amb. Cusia in LA: Cusia Brags About US-RP Military Support vs China

Los Angeles—Saying he was received with warmth in Los Angeles by the Filipino American community from the cold spell in the East Coast, Ambassador Jose L. Cusia Jr. regaled the capacity crowd with facts and figures on Filipino-American relations.

The EPCC NEWS reported today that the newly designated Philippine Ambassador to the United States, Cusia held a Pulongbayan at the Rizal Hall of the Philippine Consulate General at 3600 Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles last Friday Night, December 2, 2010

He was on his way to the 10th NAFFAA Regional Conference in San Diego on December 3, 2011 as a guest speaker.

US Military Support vs China

The EPCC News reported that Amb.Cusia intimated to the crowd that “It was the United States officials led by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who requested that the ceremonies for the 60th year of the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) be held on the deck of the USS Fitzgerald docked in Manila Bay. You know what this means”

The crowd applauded the fact that this was a US signal to China to stop bullying the Philippines and a strong US sign to China that it supports the Philippines. Cusia also answered the question of a PMA cavalier who asked about the upgrade of the Philippine military with American aid.

Cusia also said that “ two US study missions are in the Philippines in a study how to upgrade the US military inventory and at the same time study the forms of acquiring these military hardware.”

He also the Philippines will acquire two more US Coast Guard cutters like the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar, a 50 year old refurbished destroyer which the Philippines bought from the United States this year.

On GMA’s Arrest

On the Pinoy Dog Watch correspondent question about the effect on former President Arroyo’s arrest and detention on the Philippine economy, Cusia replied, “There is no effect. Just like when former President Estrada was arrested, there will be no effect on the economy.

The EPCC NEWS said that Amb.Cusia did not elaborate that GMA pardoned Estrada after having him arrested, detained and later convicted of plunder. but expounded on the fact that the president’s "adheres to the rule of law and the court process."

Cusia proceeded to say “ that this the proof the President Aquino’s adherence to the rule of law and transparency that endear him to the US.”
