Support today was tremendous with several hundred public comment responses. The 6:30 pm city council meeting extended until 11:30 pm and they resolved to push the vote out until Monday November 21st. We need people to show up then. Spread this around. Jobs are at stake. As is public space.

I love libraries and librarians.
If it weren't for libraries, my education would have been much worse, because I'm not good a learning in a classroom (mind wanders, can't take verbal instructions).
The public library is critical to democracy. Librarians don't make much money, and benefit our society significantly. Libraries are becoming community centers where people get internet access.
Let's all support, and push forward, to make libraries more central to our lives in this electronic, internet-connected age.

After over 100 personal testomonies to Simi Valley City Council, most of which were against privatization, Simi City Council declared that the people are afraid of change, that they are not definitely going to privatize and that it was offensive to them when a consituent pointed out that trying to pass privatization legislation as quickly as possible before AB438 comes into law (AB438 makes it slightly harder to privatize by asking questions such as, will privatization actually save money?) Jan 1st 2012 is similar to someone seeing ble lights in their rear view and evading law enforcement.
Council decided to delay the vote until the 21st.
On Monday November 21st, we will meet again to rally at 5:45 pm and we will march into City Council together at 6:30. They are scheduled to vote that day to leave the 97 year old Ventura County Library system to "open" the library to bidders who will have an opportunity to take city money and run the library "more efficiently." The only bidder is LSSI LLC, a transnational Maryland based corporation. If we do not stop the vote or change their minds, the library will ultimately privatize.
