Occupy LA Lack of Politics Will Be their Undoing

by a supporter Thursday, Oct. 06, 2011 at 6:57 AM

I'm still supporting those protesters (materially) but their lack of politics, and excessive reverence of power will be their undoing. What kind of "leaderless revolution" gives so much power to the famous and powerful?

Politicians are not the 99%. They are the intermediaries between the 99% and the 1%.

People like us cannot talk directly and influence anyone like Phil Anschutz, Ralph Horowitz, or any of the big mucky-muck developers. It's supposed to be the politicians keeping these billionaires in check, to limit their ability to do whatever they want with our city.

But time and again, the 1% find allies among the city politicians.

And now these Occupy LA campers are busy rejecting some people on the left and others who have been involved in pushing the LA mainstream to be more progressive.

This is no "revolution".

It's not even "evolution".

It's a big co-opting of popular resistance.
