ACLU of California: Sign the Petition: Bring Back Balance

by Fwd from ACLU Tuesday, Jul. 26, 2011 at 9:13 PM

Please sign this one from the ACLU on sentencing reform! We should be spending money on more constructive things than on locking up non-violent, low level offenders! Thank you!

Our budget – and our priorities – are out of balance.

California is slashing funds for education and social services, while billions in prison spending remain untouched in the current budget. Once the world leader in higher education, we now spend more on incarceration than on our public universities.

We need to restore balance to our state. Sentencing reform is an integral part of the solution.

By reducing penalties for low level offenses, the governor and legislative leaders can redirect hundreds of millions of dollars toward our most pressing priorities - public schools and universities, social services and public safety.

Nearly 8,500 people are locked up in CA state prison today serving felony sentences for these offenses at a cost to taxpayers of over 2 million per year. Others can receive felony sentences for writing a 0 bad check.

California voters believe that we are locking up too many people, and that sentences are too harsh, particularly for minor offenses. We can save money and keep our communities safe by reserving felony sentences for serious crimes. This is one of the defining civil rights issues of our time, and we need your help.

Please sign our petition to the governor and legislative leaders.

Quit playing by The Banks and Wall Streets Rules if you want Balance anywhere

by Don't play by Banks & Wall Street's Rules Wednesday, Jul. 27, 2011 at 1:10 AM

If you keep playing by the Bank's and Wall Street's Rules then you're going to keep getting The Bank's and Wall Steet's Governments, which are wrecking The Economy, which is driving people to a so called life of crime, which is creating this Post 9-11 Police State. Make YOUR RULES NOT THE BANK'S AND WALL STREETS RULES, that say it's a Crime to Rob and Bank, Then The CEO's, Banksters, and Wall St., turn around and do just that. They Rob a Bank aka The Federal Reserve on National Television with The Help of The Repiglican Gang of 666, The Repiglicrats, and Obushma The George W Bush Carbon Copy. If you want to make YOUR RULES AND NOT THEIR RULES, then you will have to PICK YOUR LEADERS AND NOT THEIR LEADERS. And if You Want to Pick YOUR LEADERS AND NOT THEIR LEADERS then you're going to have to stop picking your Apples from THEIR SPOILED BARREL and start picking your Apples from The Tree aka You The People. Otherwise there will be no balance.
