DREAMERS WILL NOT GIVE UP

by Dream Team LA Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at 11:31 PM

Los Angeles, CA - This morning, US Senate voted on whether or not to debate the DREAM Act. Unfortunately, 60 votes were needed and the measure will not move forward this year.

We are disappointed and disheartened at the inability of the United States Senate to pass a bill that had bipartisan support, it was rational and a logical step forward for our economy and society. Furthermore, they have failed thousands of Dreamers, their families and allies. Undocumented Americans for years have worked hard, lived their lives, paid taxes, and contributed to this nation as outstanding citizens. We have worked, and continue working, to get educated and be a positive contribution to society. We will remember in future elections those who stood against the dreams of young people in this country and shamelessly betrayed the American values of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Our movement for dignity has infused American politics with a vibrant energy, creativity and an unprecedented involvement by young people and families in the political process. We will unwaveringly continue to fight for our dreams and mobilize a multitude of dreamers and families. One day we will be able to be doctors, engineers, educators, and lawyers. That is why we hope, that is why we dream. We see light when there is little hope, we walk with our heads up when sorrow rains and we don’t shiver when the cold of hate surrounds our beings, simply because we are Undocumented and Unafraid. We will not give up and continue the fight for immigrant rights.

As undocumented leaders we encourage Dreamers across the country to take a break, enjoy the richness we do have in with our families and friends, and re-energize for 2011.
