AJLPP SUPPORTS DAY OF ACTION: TO THE STREETS! WALK-OUT!

Los Angeles--The Alliance-Philippines (AJLPP) militantly support the state wide-day of action to defend education against drastic budget cuts and attacks against the people.

The AJLPP expresses that the California-wide mass action has turned into a nationwide action with other states following the way the people of California are rising up agains the imposition of the corporate lords and greedy bureaucrats like Arnold.

California, education is suffering from $18 billion in budget cuts. These cuts affect working-class students and people of color the most. With Gov. Schwarzenegger’s new budget, the University of California system faces a $450 million deficit, which includes an additional $115 million in cuts for this year.

Money for Education, not for War

AJLPP is aghast that while in 2009 California taxpayers paid nearly $115 billion to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The same amount of military funding could pay the tuition of over 17 million California university students.

The Obama administration’s new federal budget allocates $738 billion to military spending and just $122 billion to education--which includes significant cuts to special education funding, higher education, school improvement, and a 30% reduction in funding for educating the poor.

That’s a 30% reduction in funding for working-class students, the same students targeted by military recruiters to enlist more troops for the ongoing criminal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The federal war budget directly impacts the state budget. Neither reflects what the people want or need. There is a direct connection between the fee hikes, furlough days, increasingly limited library access, course cancellations, layoffs, grant freezes, and enrolment freezes and the ongoing racist wars of aggression.

AJLPP calls on all its forces and allies to take action: March 4 & March 20

Stop cuts and hikes! Money for education, not for war!

Fight for the people!
