LATEST FROM UCLA SIT IN / OCCUPATION OF MURPHY

by Occupy everything-UCLA Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at 3:12 PM

Afrikan Student Union and at least 100 people are occupying Murphy Hall, the administrative building of UCLA. They are meeting with the chancellor as we speak in order to call for the following, in light of the racist incidents at UCSD:

1. Closure of UCSD until there is a full investigation of events surrounding Compton Cook Out and the noose left hanging for 3 days in Library.

2. Expulsion of offending students and dismantling of The Koala newspaper.

3. Diversity needs be met by March 4th. (see BSU demands from UCSD)

If you are at UCLA, go to MURPHY NOW! 2:30pm

sounds racially charged to do this conquest of a state own building

by UCLA student Monday, Mar. 01, 2010 at 5:39 PM

demanding on what basis ?
feeling entitled to more than others?
having the sense of POWER by illegal activities ?

what is going on when students repeat what they THINK those who were protesting a real military draft and a real war of long standing in Asia....for the demands they chose to make ....have more of their kind of students at UCLA ?

to threaten violence in order to make this university a more desirable institution ? or one that can be misused by any small group that enjoys the REBEL POWER OF THREATENING damage, which actually
is extortion, isnt it ?

to act out in violent ways to SHOW whatever, or to pretend to be heroic or strong is not a good idea
especially when so many ordinary people outside of these fancy buildings in Westwood are suffering from loss of income, loss of jobs, loss of health ins. and
their children returning maimed and damaged from the Mid East conquests that are still attempted.

To "take over a building" is a pretend mangled job of thinking some people are on TV or movies and being so noticeable.

Not so, not so. Just another foolish splash in the news perhaps but no good or practical change will happen for these copy-cat maneuvers in a wholly different self-centered context.

These moves are not done to save the USA from war, or to prevent draftees from dying in external wars, but just to get..what ? more of a certain group of applicants into UCLA ? or more prestige for the Afrikans already here ? Or to make those students of darker color who are diligently studying looks as unstable as these who do such acts?

too bad we cant be modern, effective, creative and
acting in good faith instead of copying old tactics for totally different circumstances and causes.

It just doesnt work.

nooses are not just for one type of people are they ?

by Black UCLA student Monday, Mar. 01, 2010 at 5:51 PM

who automatically uncritically thinks that any "noose" placed anywhere automatically means africans or dark americans of mixed racial heritage are being threatened ?

nooses have and are used for many hangings of many varieties...

to make claim that it is only racial is a long haul and
an attempt at attention and notoriety, with anger and revenge the usual motivation that "sells" news.

can minds be more open and less instantly auto-matically reactionary to one thought association ?

why are so many people so quick to jump to the conclusion of a few who want to make "the news" and again claim victimhood....for what this time ?

trying climbing a rope some time, and use the noose
as a stepping foothold instead.
