Por fin la cuestión de los retenes ha salido a la luz, debido a una investigación llevado a cabo en la Universidad de California y publicado a través del New York Times y PBS, entre otros.
At last, the issue of the checkpoints has come to light, thanks to an investigation done at UC Berkeley and published in the New York Times and PBS, among others.

The investigation examines figures from various law enforcement agencies and concludes that the checkpoint is a much more effective tool to enforce anti-immigrant laws such as the discrimination that prohibits licensing of undocumented drivers, than it is to halt drunk drivers. Furthermore, it points out that checkpoints are a cash cow for the municipalities that use them.

Police use these checkpoints to collect money from college students just having fun at local bars. But they also use these to seperate families and deport the true natives of this land!

zIt's a little known fact that if you are in a DUI check point. and have had a few there is a way out! do the following:
1 stop your car 2. get out of the car 3. open a sealed bottle of alcohol (half pint works best) 4. drink some (in view of the officers) 5. quickly pour the rest on the ground
this will contaminate the breathalizer results, making them inadmissable in court. (or the flip side they will get tossed by the judge) since you have poured out the rest of the bottle, the police can't prove in court how much you drank. the only thing they can do is to give you a ticket for drinking in public (this is a minor fine) and won't go on your license! just remember you can't go back and drive your car. have a friend come and get it for you. The cops will be Pissed but too bad. this does work but you have to be quick to pull it off
