FILAM ACTIVISTS RALLIED AGAINST US-GMA CHARTER CHANGE IN LA CONSULATE, JUNE 9
Los Angeles— NO US INSPIRED CHARTER CHANGE, US OUT OF THE PHILIPPINES!

Holding a banner: NO TO CHARTER CHANGE- the activists drew loud honks from the motorists. The three-hour picket/ rally coincided with the monthly press conference at the 3600 Wilshire office of the Philippine Consulate.
After the rally, KMB’s Johneric Concordia thanks everybody especially solidarity allies. Majority of them came from an earlier rally at the LAUSD rally to protest budget cuts on education.
Meanwhile GABNET Jollene Levid denounced the recent US-backed proposed charter changes to the Philippine constitution. She further said: “ This latest move by Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is no surprise to us. Gloria has heightened the war on the people – allowing corporations to pillage the natural resources of the country, ordering the political killings of over 1000 activists, and opening up the Philippines to US troops, leading to the rape of Filipina women, including Nicole and Vanessa who have still seen no justice…
As women and daughters of women who fled martial law Philippines, we recognize that these moves by Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her cronies are a prelude to an Arroyo dictatorship. Marcos is infamous for the human rights abuse after his declaration of martial law: state-sanctioned and enforced disappearances, political arrests and murders of hundreds of thousands of Filipinos. "
EPCC’s Jerry Esguerra reminded everyone on great struggles ahead. “We must be vigilant and monitor all the schemes of GMA. This is only the start of our work”
