SAVE THE DATE! Revolutionary Revival Concert #2, for Nicaragua and El Salvador, June 13

by Socialist Party USA Sunday, May. 24, 2009 at 5:06 PM
freepacifica@yahoo.com

For the first time, both Nicaragua and El Salvador have revolutionary governments, and people in the United States can help them!

Revolution Revival benefit concert series – Nicaragua and El Salvador

Is it possible for a political movement to bring a complete change to a society with a democratic form-of-government in place? That is what Salvador Allende was trying in Chile, and what several Left political movements are trying in Latin America today. Two of the newly-elected Left governments in Latin America are built on guerilla movements, who lost many thousands of people to get to where they are now: the FSLN of Nicaragua, the FMLN of El Salvador.

Is it possible? That remains to be seen. The outcome depends partly on outside support. Can people in the outside world, people who believe both in revolutionary change and in democracy, provide enough HELP for such a project to succeed? -- While we will probably adjust our methods over the years, PROVIDING THIS HELP is our aim with the Revolution Revival benefit concert series. We are starting here in the Los Angeles area; but we aim for this effort to become a worldwide effort.

Concert #1: Our first concert took place on Sunday, April 19. The event was rather sparsely attended; we had four people playing music and five people playing ping-pong. [Because of the lack-of-attendance at Concert #1, the same musicians from that day will be returning for Concert #2.] -- We did raise our first 200 dollars that day – half for Nicaragua and half for El Salvador. Local Nicaraguan representatives took charge of their 0 and have delivered it to the Nicaraguan government. Local Salvadoran representatives are holding on to their 100 dollars, in anticipation of the FMLN government that will be inaugurated in June. Our long-term financial target is to help both these countries, (and possibly some other countries) pay off their foreign debts. Our immediate goal is to provide the missing funds that will help Nicaragua and El Salvador operate without a government budget deficit, thereby avoiding inflation.

Concert #2 at El Sereno Community Garden, Los Angeles California

Date: Saturday, June 13, 2009

Time: 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM

Address: 5466 Huntington Drive, Los Angeles CA 90032

The community garden is located in a northeastern corner of Los Angeles City Limits, just short of Alhambra and South Pasadena. It’s on the south-facing side of Huntington Drive at the corner of Lowell Street. Maycrest is the closest major cross-streets.

Playing at Concert #2: Celtic Musicians from the band, Banna Beag Mall

Zapoteca Roots

… and YOU!, playing ping-pong!

A PARTICIPATORY CONCERT: We will not be charging any fees at this concert, and your presence is very important even if you do not have 25 cents to spare. We are trying to build a different kind of political, fundraising-related even, that is PARTICIPATORY. We expect everyone in attendance to play some ping-pong. We also request that if you already own a small gardening trowel, bring it along so that you can help with some weeding.
