Breaking May Day News - 11:40 am - Student Walkouts Have Started

Student walk outs at various high schools in the Los Angeles area have begun. There are reports of walkouts at Roosevelt High, Jefferson High and Lincoln High.

200+ Students now marching on Caesar Chavez Ave. Another group of students reported on Mission. Students groups appear to be headed to downtown march.

Students from the Lincoln High walkout and march have merged with the main march at Olympic & Broadway. There are also new reports of another student walkout at Washington High.

IMC Reporter with the first march at 1st Street reports a very positive and festive march with cheers as student walkout marches feed into the main march. Huge diversity of people and great youth turnout. Reporter estimates at least 2,000 marchers at this time with more feeding in.

There are three large marches going on at this time. March #1 has reached its rally point at 1st and B-way. March #2 is now at the federal building. March #3 is on Sunset Blvd. headed downtown.

Each march is estimated at over 1,000. Plus there are many other smaller student walkout marches ranging from 50 to 200. Totaled, it is thought that there are at least 5,000+ demonstrating in the streets in the LA metro area at this time.

No reports of incidents with police or any protest related arrests.

It appears that there are a number of different marches going on at this time. One march at 5th & Main is estimated at 450 and there is a third wave of marchers proceeding up Broadway estimated at about 250

5:00 pm – Caller Reports Close to 1,000 marching in Riverside

IMC reporter in Riverside reports 1,000 marching to Riverside City Hall at this time. Local grassroots groups and union locals together with UCR students make up the demonstration. No police problems observed.

7:45 pm – Most All May Day Events have Concluded. No Major Incidences Reported.

No incidences of police violence have been reported. No known protest related arrests. All events appear to have been peaceful.

There is an event scheduled in MacArthur Park for this evening. No reports from the park at this time. Rain may cancel.
