SANTA MONICA, July 16, 2008 – The run on Indymac Bank, continued into its third day today. The branch on Wilshire Blvd in Santa Monica has started issuing numbers to customers wanting to withdraw money from their accounts. Today, the doors to the bank were guarded by two security agents. Customers were only allowed entry when their number was called. On arrival this reporter saw ticket #516 issued to a woman from Marina Del Rey who wanted to close her account and move her savings to another bank. When leaving the scene the bank mangers were calling ticket number 209
Uploaded are recordings with bank customers. They were happy to be interviewed and be recorded but they all requested that their names be withheld. I spoke with one man who said he was there because he is worried about the safety of his life savings ($160,000). He had been waiting in line for two days now. I also spoke with an 88 year old woman who had been trying since Monday to meet someone at the bank. No one from the bank was available to interview.
I didnt get to hear recording but the info is a great proof that we too can BE THE NEWS and share it outside of the usual advertised places...thank you !!!
FYI the news that is on established media is corroborating and yet not so local-personal as I am sure your interviews must be.
While I have a large CD still at Indymac, I am trusting the same govt that claims my dollar is worth at least $1 worth of something or other to keep the FDIC afloat for a while... if all banks fail, we will be eating grass and not sharing it as we do now...here grass-roots are edible? dandilions are that i know.
