Ed Boks is an incompetent liar. I cannot believe he has not been fired. If he were running a public corporation, he would be out by now.
Ed Boks is an incompetent liar. I cannot believe he has not been fired. If he were running a public corporation, he would be out by now.
Boks put the city shelters in DEBT. He is cheating the taxpayers & he is cheating the animals. Boks put the city shelters $2.5 million in debt, and he is not able to open the city’s newest built shelter, paid for by the taxpayers. The taxpayers of Los Angeles are paying for Boks’ incompetence. Why has Boks not been fired?
One of the reasons that so many animals are listed as "aggressive" in the shelter computers, even when those animals are not aggressive, is so that when the shelter kills those animals Boks can put those animals in the “unadoptable” list. Then, when Boks does his numbers, it looks as if he lowered the euth rate, because there are fewer "adoptable" animals that were euthanized.
Many rescuers have experienced this first hand, when they rescue a dog who the shelter has labeled “aggressive”, only to discover that the dog is as sweet as could be. When the shelter kills a dog that is labeled “aggressive”, that dog does not count in Boks’ number of adoptable dogs that were euthanized for space reasons.
When I volunteer at the city shelters, half the animals are listed as aggressive. None of the dogs that are listed as aggressive actually is aggressive. This is how Boks cooks his books.
It is so sad. Boks cares about nothing, but his next paycheck. He manipulates all the numbers. Shelter kill rates are actually higher under Boks than they were under Stuckey, but Boks parades around town acting as if he is making a difference. Boks is a menace to the animals of Los Angeles.

you're on the right track. you live there- go ask the city of Los Angeles why, according to LAAS's own website, they show more than a 30% DECREASE of TOTAL intake in four years BUT have a 56% INCREASE in spending????
don't believe me? look it up yourself and do the math.
check fiscal year 2001/2002's numbers against 2005/2006 or contact me for the breakdowns. I just don't think you should take my word for it when their own reports are so clear.
and while you're at it, ask who paid for Mr Boks to attend a hearing for AB1634 in Sacramento- on a Wednesday- including travel and his daily salary- and why he wasn't in LA doing the job he's already been paid for and is failing so miserably at?
if the intake numbers are decreasing by more than ten thousand animals in that same 4 year period (and they are according to LAAS's website!) why do you need new shelters for 'overcrowding'?
time to point out that these folks are just empire building and trying to keep, as Mel Brooks once so eloquently put it, their "phoney baloney jobs".

How do men like this get jobs like this? Do they not screen people for the liking of animals before they are given jobs. Or does California go by the old saying.... it is not what you know, but WHO you know? There must be an animal lover somewhere in the country that can get a job in a place that keeps animals that really likes animals. Seem to be a rare find in this country.

OK, Boks is gone. IMHO, he couldn't have resigned fast enough. Now what are we going to do about Stu? This dog has been in impound for over four years. He has been deemed NOT DANGEROUS and NOT AGGRESSIVE. Yet, despite his owner's best efforts, the best efforts of the Commissioners on the Board of LA Animal Services, and the best efforts of 1000's of private citizens, he is scheduled to be euthanized July 23, 2009. Time is of the essence. Please, please go to the following links and familiarize yourself with this travesty of justice. The Due Process violations have all been well-documented. The city of Los Angeles would rather kill this dog than admit and rectify their mistakes. Please help Stu stay alive. He was impounded in his prime. He is now over 10-years old. Help us get him home to live his final years at the side of his loyal human ompanion, Jefferey. http://laanimalservicesboardwatch.blogspot.com/ http://blogs.laweekly.com/ladaily/city-news/ed-boks-exits-and-a-dog-named/index.php
