PGMA US VISIT, PATHETIC DISPLAY OF MENDICACY OF A US PUPPET

The Alliance-Philippines (AJLPP) today expresses outrage over the passing of the more than $ 628 B budget to fund the Iraq –Afghanistan war yesterday, June 26 in the US Congress while that the Filipino Veterans Equity bill that was languishing in the US congress for more than 18 years was not even discussed. Aside approving the war budget, the high profile legislative visit or the lobby by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo took precedence in the House of Representatives. It is high point in mendicancy for the president of the Philippines to let herself be stereotyped as “cooks” and “Philippine-Americans” by no less President Bush during their White House meeting.

PGMA US VISIT, PATHETIC DISPLAY OF MENDICACY OF A US PUPPET

Los Angeles- Money for the Filipino Veterans, Not a Penny for the war in Iraq! Money for People’s Needs, Not for the War!

For the AJLPP, it was outrageous to hear defend the presence of US aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan on the territorial waters of the Philippines in the guise of helping in the retrieval efforts on the sunken ship off Sibuyan sea. As a US-marionette, she made a swipe at some nationalist senators who pointed out the violations of Philippine sovereignty and the nuclear-free provisions of the constitution in front of her captive audience in New York.

At the same time, proving that she is an ever-willing puppet, she has no shame to beg for audience and met with Senator John McCain in Fresno and New York. She was not granted an audience to Senator Barack Obama of the democrats.

Credit Grabbing and High Profile Blitz

For AJLPP, the fact that President Arroyo is now the most unpopular president of the Philippines bolster the claims she is just using the Filipino veterans issue as her public relations blitz. The AJLPP said that we must not rely on politicians like PGMA; the so-called “champions of equity” who kept promising us that equity bill will pass.

It was the Filipino-American community and its allies who acted without the Philippine government aid for more than 60 years to get this injustice corrected and systemic racism eradicated.

The US-Arroyo regime did not act in 2001 when the veterans and their allies asked PGMA who became president after EDSA People’s Power 2 in 2001 to-USA lobby for the equity bill, she did not respond. Now that the equity bill is on the verge of approval, here comes Gloria to claim and grab the credit for its approval. The AJLPP statement concluded.
