Israel Calls for US Blockade of Iran

by Oppose Neo-Fascism Thursday, May. 22, 2008 at 11:49 PM

The antiwar voices that brought Pelosi to power need to pay very close attention to this.

Olmert to U.S.: Impose naval blockade on Iran

By Barak Ravid and Amos Harel, Haaretz Correspondents and AP

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has proposed in discussions with the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, that a naval blockade be imposed on Iran as one of several ways to pressure Iran into stopping its uranium enrichment program.

(Which is Iran's legal right under the NPT, which Israel refuses to sign onto.)

Although the White House denied a published report that U.S. President George W. Bush intends to attack Iran before the end of his term in January, the Bush administration is said not to have ruled out entirely the possibility of an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.

(These statements exactly mirror those Bush made in the weeks leading up to the illegal attack on Iraq.)

A story in the Jerusalem Post quoted an unidentified official as claiming that a "senior member" of Bush's entourage to Israel last week made the statement about attacking Iran in a closed meeting. However, White House press secretary Dana Perino said the article is "not worth the paper it's written on." She added that the administration's preference and actions for dealing with Iran remain through peaceful diplomatic means.

(Which we know is bullsh*t, because this whole illusion of a 'crisis' where none exists is solely about feigning a justification for yet another unprovoked attack on a sovereign country Israel hates.)

Israelis who spoke to Bush and his entourage while they were in Israel last week said they had the impression that the military option "is on the table," and that the president felt a sense of deep obligation to overcome the Iranian threat.

(The only 'Iranian threat' which exists is that these Zionist Ideologues will launch another illegal war.)

The Iranian issue was central in Olmert's meeting over lunch Monday with Pelosi, together with 12 other members of Congress in the bipartisan delegation Pelosi led.

(Pelosi has already betrayed the people who elected her to power, proving herself to be one of the RepubliCrats threatening the United States.)

Among those present were House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Howard Berman, and heads of the House Appropriations Committee, Nita Lowey and Gary Ackerman.

(Who should be at home, working on American issues, not half way around the world, being talked into another disastrous International Crime ...)

"The present economic sanctions on Iran have exhausted themselves," Olmert told Pelosi, adding that the international community needed to take much more drastic steps to stop Iran's efforts to obtain nuclear weapons.

(Iran is not trying to build nuclear weapons ...)

Olmert also said there was a great deal of space between the present sanctions and military action. Aggressive action could be taken that was not violent, Olmert told Pelosi.

(In order to have this repeated by the media, while they continue to plot war ...)

Olmert's suggestions mainly involved continued efforts to isolate the Iranian regime. Olmert proposed two possible courses of action: first, a naval blockade of Iran using the U.S. fleet to limit the movement in and out of Iran of its merchant ships.

(Why should these be used to enforce Israeli policies? It is, however, a great way to provoke war, or set the stage for the long-predicted naval False Flag that will kick-start this Act of Aggression ...)

The second option Olmert proposed was to place limitations on Iranian aircraft, business people and senior members of the regime at airports throughout the world. "Iranian businesspeople who would not be able to land anywhere in the world would pressure the regime," Olmert said.

(Or provoke war. Perhaps this is how the world should begin pressuring Israel to abandon its policies of destruction, obey the Rule of Law, and live up to its legal and moral obligations regarding the Palestinians.)

Members of the American delegation also spoke about how to pressure Iran. Pelosi herself said at a press conference Monday that a whole series of moves were on the table to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear status."

(Those antiwar groups who elected Pelosi on a platform of "no more war" should be paying close attention to this reversal and betrayal.)

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni told Pelosi at a meeting that "the effectiveness of the sanctions depends on a united front by the countries of the world." Livni added that when there are those who create commercial options for Iran, the efficacy of sanctions was reduced. "When Iran sees the foreign minister of Switzerland wearing a veil when she comes to to Ahmadinejad to sign an agreement, it concludes that the world is not united against it," Livni said.

(And indeed, it isn't, because Iran hasn't done anything wrong, and nobody believes the LIES being peddled by Israel's Extremists.)

Olmert is scheduled to fly to Washington in two weeks for another working meeting with Bush that will focus on the Iranian issue. During Bush's visit last week, he met with Olmert privately, as well as together with Defense Minister Ehud Barak, to discuss the options for dealing with Iran's nuclear program.

Senior government officials in Jerusalem said they were satisfied with the talks and Bush's speech in the Knesset on Iran. They said they believed Bush would make good on his declarations.

Meanwhile, diplomats in Vienna said a new attempt by Mohammed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, to probe allegations that Iran tried to make nuclear arms has failed. ElBaradei was said to have been hopeful a month ago when he announced a new attempt to investigate allegations that Iran has tried to make atomic arms. However, the diplomats told The Associated Press yesterday that Iran denies such activities.

(ElBaradei himself stated yesterday that Iran is not seeking weapons, and none of those itching for war - guilty themselves of nuclear proliferation, War Crimes, and 'The Supreme International Crime' - on Iran have been able to produce any evidence to the contrary ...)

Israel wants more pressure on Iran by Jean-Luc Renaudie

Wed May 21, 9:29 AM ET

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Israel wants to put more international pressure on Iran over its disputed nuclear programme, suggesting an US-imposed naval blockade and tougher sanctions, local media reported on Wednesday.

(Nothing is 'disputed'. Warmongers in Israel and the US are simply trying to start another war, and have created the illusion of this crisis to that end. But the evidence has refuted and exposed their LIES several times already.)

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert raised the idea of a naval blockade in talks with the Democratic speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, during her visit to Jerusalem, the Haaretz newspaper said.

"The present economic sanctions on Iran have exhausted themselves," Olmert was quoted as saying in the meeting Tuesday.

"The international community must impose tougher sanctions against Tehran."

(For what, exactly ... ?)

The UN Security Council has imposed three sets of sanctions on Iran aimed at pressuring it to halt uranium enrichment which Israel and many Western powers suspect will be used to develop an atomic bomb -- a charge Tehran denies.

(And the evidence refutes. Investigations are still underway into allegations that the US coerced states like India into supporting these resolutions, which violate Iran's NPT rights.)

Asked about the blockade report, Olmert's spokesman Mark Regev would say only: "We do not confirm this information."

Olmert also spoke about imposing air travel restrictions which he said would prevent Iranian business people "from landing anywhere in the world which would touch off pressure on the regime," according to Haaretz.

(Such as those which have virtually grounded War Criminals such as Don Rumsfeld, Ehud Barak, and others?)

Rafi Eitan, a member of Olmert's security cabinet, told public radio Wednesday that "a blockade of maritime and air routes against Iran is a good possibility."

Israel, which is believed to be the only, if undeclared, nuclear armed state in the Middle East, is also pushing for tougher sanctions against Tehran, especially from European countries.

(Highlighting the extreme irony at play here, and exposes this as a program solely created with starting war with Iran as its goal.)

"It is time that the European Union take quicker action and impose much more severe economic sanctions than those adopted by the United Nations," said foreign ministry spokesman Arye Mekel.

(They've seen the BS too ...)

Iran, OPEC's second biggest oil exporter, has refused to heed international demands to halt uranium enrichment, insisting it has a right to the process to make nuclear fuel to meet its increasing energy needs.

(Its 'insistence' is supported by the NPT.)

Highly enriched uranium can also make the fissile core of an atom bomb, but Tehran has vehemently denied it is seeking to acquire nuclear weapons.

(However, such a process would require a massive expansion of this small program, which would be easily visible to the myriad of eyes intently watching Iran's activities. It's irresponsible that the author omits this information.)

The UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, has been trying to determine the nature and extent of Iran's nuclear work.

IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei is due to report in June on Iran's nuclear programme to the body's board of governors and the UN Security Council.

(But just yesterday, he stated that Iran is NOT seeking an atomic bomb.)

Israel says Iran is not only a major threat to the Jewish state but also the international community, pointing to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's comments that Israel should be wiped off the map.

(Which were NEVER made. Repeating this LIE is more irresponsibility on the part of this media outlet. The only real threat here is that these Extremists will launch yet another disastrous, illegal war, this time against Iran, as they've plotted for years.)

Still, Eitan told public radio: "There are voices, we hear, in Washington that indicate the military option remains open."

Political observers however said a blockade would be difficult to impose and would have major economic effects.

"The international community would have to accept a new spike in oil prices, without Iranian crude in the market," said Ephraim Kam, deputy director of the independent Institute for National Security Studies.

(I'm sure the oil-rich Bush family would just hate that ...)

"In addition the Iranians would not hesitate to block the exports of crude from all the countries in the Gulf," he added.

Iran on Wednesday indicated it was ready to enter "serious and targeted" negotiations with world powers on a wide range of issues, including nuclear energy, according to a translation of proposals posted on the Institute for Science and International Security website.

The ISIS also said in a study that Iran's nuclear drive could trigger a race to develop atomic weapons in the Middle East.

(Actually, it said it could trigger a race to develop nuclear energy ...)

"We take it for granted that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapon," said ISIS expert Mark Fitzpatrick, adding that Tehran could theoretically produce enough uranium for a bomb by 2009.

(However, Iran is NOT trying to build a bomb. The Neo-Fascists are desperately trying to start another illegal war. Period.)

ElBaradei: Iran not after bomb

Tue, 20 May 2008 13:47:19

The UN nuclear watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei has once again highlighted the lack of evidence to prove Iran is after a nuclear bomb.

Speaking at a session of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East, ElBaradei reiterated the International Atomic Energy Agency has no evidence that Iran is seeking to develop an atomic bomb.

"We haven't seen indications or any concrete evidence that Iran is building a nuclear weapon and I've been saying that consistently for the last five years," ElBaradei asserted.

He said that the issue of Iran's nuclear standoff with the West is a problem of trust.

(It's actually a 'problem' that Extremists in the US and Israel are attempting to again feign a justification for a war against this country, as they've planned for years. Their problem is that they were caught LYING about Iraq, in order to start an illegal war, and nobody believes them this time around.)

The IAEA boss referred to a December 3 joint assessment by 16 US spy agencies, which conceded that Tehran is not running a nuclear weapons program, and said that the US intelligence report agreed with his agency's assessment on Iran's nuclear program.

ElBaradei also criticized US President George W. Bush's remarks at the forum and suggested that the US hold direct talks with Iran in order to resolve the long-drawn-out standoff over the country's nuclear program.

(But the 'standoff' has nothing to do with nuclear weapons. It's about creating the illusion of a threat, in order to allow these Fascist whack-jobs to start another illegal war of aggression.)

"If you need to resolve an issue, you need to see where people are coming from," said ElBaradei. "We should have learned from now that dialogue, not isolation, is the way to move forward."

Iran has repeatedly stated that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, it is entitled to enriching uranium, which will provide fuel for the country's under-construction nuclear power plants.

(And this is true.)

However, the US president's flagrant disregard for international reports on Iran indicates his determination to drum up support for an act of aggression against the Islamic Republic.

"I have said Iran is dangerous, and the NIE estimate doesn't do anything to change my opinion about the danger Iran poses to the world - quite the contrary," Bush said in response to the release of the US National Intelligence Estimate.

(Insanity!)

IAEA has no evidence on Iran''s building nuclear arms - ElBaradei

Politics 5/19/2008 8:42:00 PM

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, May 19 (KUNA) -- Mohammad El-Baradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said here Monday the UN nuclear watchdog has no evidence proving that Iran was building a nuclear bomb, but affirmed that the Iranian nuclear file was part of security of region.

"We are saying that (we have no evidence about Iran's manufacturing of nuclear bomb) and we can't know the intentions of Iran in future," El-Baradei addressed a World Economic Forum's (WEF) session about new strategies to achieve stability.

He said the Arab countries must cooperate to tackle problems in the Middle East without foreign interference.

He said the Arab-Israeli conflict, which has been over 60 years old now, was the core issue of Middle East troubles.

Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Abul Gheit, meanwhile, said Iran was not the sole country possessing nuclear capabilities.

He said ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, as well as establishing Palestinian and Israeli state was in the hands of the Jewish state.

Abul Gheit criticized the further building of Jewish settlements in occupied Palestinian territories even after the US-sponsored Annapolis conference. (end)

White House denies Iran attack report

By JERUSALEM POST STAFF

The White House on Tuesday flatly denied an Army Radio report that claimed US President George W. Bush intends to attack Iran before the end of his term. It said that while the military option had not been taken off the table, the administration preferred to resolve concerns about Iran's push for a nuclear weapon "through peaceful diplomatic means."

(Bush said this same thing - word for word - right up until the week he illegally attacked Iraq.)

Army Radio had quoted a top official in Jerusalem claiming that a senior member in the entourage of President Bush, who visited Israel last week, had said in a closed meeting here that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were of the opinion that military action against Iran was called for.

(The number of US officials visiting Israeli Extremists, coconspirators in the plot against Iran (and Iraq, Afghanistan) - behind closed doors the past few weeks is truly troubling.)

The official reportedly went on to say that, for the time being, "the hesitancy of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice" was preventing the administration from deciding to launch such an attack on the Islamic Republic.

The Army Radio report, which was quoted by The Jerusalem Post and resonated widely, stated that according to assessments in Israel, the recent turmoil in Lebanon, where Hizbullah has established de facto control of the country, was advancing an American attack.

(Insider reports actually say the opposite, and that a planned American-Israeli attack upon Lebanon was actually prevented because of Hizbullah's actions.)

Bush, the official reportedly said, considered Hizbullah's show of strength evidence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's growing influence. In Bush's view, the official said, "the disease must be treated - not its symptoms."

(But again, Bush's statements are just more of the same LIES intended to feign a 'crisis', enabling him and the rest of the Neo-Fascists to start yet another disastrous war.)

However, the White House on Tuesday afternoon dismissed the story. In a statement, it said that "[the US] remain[s] opposed to Iran's ambitions to obtain a nuclear weapon. To that end, we are working to bring tough diplomatic and economic pressure on the Iranians to get them to change their behavior and to halt their uranium enrichment program."

(We know this is bullsh*t because Iran is NOT even trying to do this, and the entire meme has been created towards the end of another illegal war.)

It went on: "As the president has said, no president of the United States should ever take options off the table, but our preference and our actions for dealing with this matter remain through peaceful diplomatic means. Nothing has changed in that regard."

(Again, look at White House statements from the weeks leading up to the Iraq crime.)

In an interview last week in the Oval Office, Bush told the Post that "Iran is an incredibly negative influence" and "the biggest long-term threat to peace in the Middle East," but that the US was "pushing back hard and will continue to do so."

(In reality, the US and its 'ally', Israel, currently under the rule of violent, unrestrained Extremism, are the biggest long and short-term threats to peace in the ME. Orwell was right ...)

He noted that "Iran is involved in funding Hamas and Hizbullah, and it's that Iranian influence which I'm deeply concerned about. But there needs to be more than just the United States concerned about it."

(The US is involved in funding real Terrorist networks throughout the ME, not to mention the war against the Palestinian People.)

Bush said: "We take [seriously] this issue of [Iran] getting the technology, the know-how on how to develop a nuclear weapon."

(Note the shifting statements from these warmongers and war criminals. As was the case when their LIES about Iraq were refuted, now they're simply trying to Frame the acquisition of knowledge as reason for war.)

"All options are on the table," he said, but, "Of course you want to try to solve this problem diplomatically."

(Bush the Lesser, a day before invading Iraq ...)

Asked whether the Iranians would be deterred from their nuclear drive by the time he left office, Bush told the Post: "What definitely will be done [before I leave office will be the establishment of] a structure on how to deal with this, to try to resolve this diplomatically. In other words sanctions, pressures, financial pressures. You know, a history of pressure that will serve as a framework to make sure other countries are involved."

(The Post should have pointed out that there is no such drive, since the only "drive" at play here is the 'drive' of these sociopaths and Fascists for another illegal war.)

Days later, in his address to the Knesset, Bush said that "the president of Iran dreams of returning the Middle East to the Middle Ages" and "America stands with you in firmly opposing Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions."

(Proving that these whack-jobs live entirely in a world of fantasy, and this poses the greatest threat to the world as a whole ...)

"Permitting the world's leading sponsor of terror to possess the world's deadliest weapon would be an unforgivable betrayal of future generations. For the sake of peace, the world must not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon," he said.

(Iran? I thought he was talking about the USA ... Iran isn't trying to build a nuclear weapon. They want power to satisfy their growing energy needs, and since Bush/PNAC's illegal policies have created an energy disaster (not for them, who profit from this), this is more urgent than ever.

Richard Perle

One of Bush's foreign policy advisors, he is the chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board. A very likely Israeli government agent, Perle was expelled from Senator Henry Jackson's office in the 1970's after the National Security Agency (NSA) caught him passing Highly-Classified (National Security) documents to the Israeli Embassy. He later worked for the Israeli weapons firm, Soltam. Perle came from one the above mentioned pro-Israel thinktanks, the AEI. Perle is one of the leading pro-Israeli fanatics leading this Iraq war mongering within the administration and now in the media.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paul Wolfowitz

Deputy Defense Secretary, and member of Perle's Defense Policy Board, in the Pentagon. Wolfowitz is a close associate of Perle, and reportedly has close ties to the Israeli military. His sister lives in Israel. Wolfowitz came from the above mentioned Jewish thinktank, JINSA. Wolfowitz is the number two leader within the administration behind this Iraq war mongering.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Douglas Feith

Under Secretary of Defense and Policy Advisor at the Pentagon. He is a close associate of Perle and served as his Special Counsel. Like Perle and the others, Feith is a pro-Israel extremist, who has advocated anti-Arab policies in the past. He is closely associated with the extremist group, the Zionist Organization of America, which even attacks Jews that don't agree with its extremist views. Feith frequently speaks at ZOA conferences. Feith runs a small law firm, Feith and Zell, which only has one International office, in Israel. The majority of their legal work is representing Israeli interests. His firm's own website stated, prior to his appointment, that Feith "represents Israeli Armaments Manufacturer." Feith basically represents the Israeli War Machine. Feith also came from the Jewish thinktank JINSA. Feith, like Perle and Wolfowitz, are campaigning hard for this Israeli proxy war against Iraq.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edward Luttwak

Member of the National Security Study Group of the Department of Defence at the Pentagon. Luttwak is reportedly an Israeli citizen and has taught in Israel. He frequently writes for Israeli and pro-Israeli newspapers and journals. Luttwak is an Israeli extremist whose main theme in many of his articles is the necessity of the U.S. waging war against Iraq.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Henry Kissinger

One of many Pentagon Advisors, Kissinger sits on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board under Perle. For detailed information about Kissinger's evil past, read Seymour Hersch's book (Price of Power: Kissinger in the Nixon White House). Kissinger likely had a part in the Watergate crimes, Southeast Asia mass murders (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos), Installing Chilean mass murdering dictator Pinochet, Operation Condor's mass killings in South America, and more recently served as Serbia's Ex-Dictator Slobodan Milosevic's Advisor. He consistently advocates going to war against Iraq. Kissinger is the Ariel Sharon of the U.S. Unfortunately, President Bush nominated Kissinger as chairman of the September 11 investigating commission. It's like picking a bank robber to investigate a fraud scandal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dov Zakheim

Under Secretary of Defense, Comptroller, and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Department of Defense. He is an ordained rabbi and reportedly holds Israeli citizenship. Zakheim attended attended Jew’s College in London and became an ordained Orthodox Jewish Rabbi in 1973. He was adjunct professor at New York's Jewish Yeshiva University. Zakheim is close to the Israeli lobby.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kenneth Adelman

One of many Pentagon Advisors, Adelman also sits on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board under Perle, and is another extremist pro-Israel advisor, who supports going to war against Iraq. Adelman frequently is a guest on Fox News, and often expresses extremist and often ridiculus anti-Arab and anti-Muslim views. Through his hatred or stupidity, he actually called Arabs "anti-Semitic" on Fox News (11/28/2001), when he could have looked it up in the dictionary to find out that Arabs by definition are Semites.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I. Lewis Libby

Vice President Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff. The chief pro-Israel Jewish advisor to Cheney, it helps explains why Cheney is so gun-ho to invade Iraq. Libby is longtime associate of Wolfowitz. Libby was also a lawyer for convicted felon and Israeli spy Marc Rich, whom Clinton pardoned, in his last days as president.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robert Satloff

U.S. National Security Council Advisor, Satloff was the executive director of the Israeli lobby's "think tank," Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Many of the Israeli lobby's "experts" come from this front group, like Martin Indyk.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elliott Abrams

National Security Council Advisor. He previously worked at Washington-based "Think Tank" Ethics and Public Policy Center. During the Reagan Adminstration, Abrams was the Assistant Secretary of State, handling, for the most part, Latin American affairs. He played an important role in the Iran-Contra Scandal, which involved illegally selling U.S. weapons to Iran to fight Iraq, and illegally funding the contra rebels fighting to overthrow Nicaragua's Sandinista government. He also actively deceived three congressional committees about his involvement and thereby faced felony charges based on his testimony. Abrams pled guilty in 1991 to two misdemeanors and was sentenced to a year's probation and 100 hours of community service. A year later, former President Bush (Senior) granted Abrams a full pardon. He was one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the Reagan Administration's State Department.

It IS a conspiracy, to attack yet another Arab country without provocation. Like the one against Afghanistan. Like the one against Iraq.

Journal: US report on Iranian weapons in Iraq 'delayed significantly'

Muriel Kane

Published: Wednesday May 21, 2008

In a little-noticed story (in other words, a story the tightly-controlled media has agreed to keep a lid on), the Los Angeles Times reported two weeks ago that American promises to offer proof that Iran was arming Iraqi militants had fallen through.

"A plan to show some alleged Iranian-supplied explosives to journalists last week in Karbala and then destroy them was canceled after the United States realized none of them was from Iran," wrote the Times' Tina Susman. "A U.S. military spokesman attributed the confusion to a misunderstanding. ... When U.S. explosives experts went to investigate, they discovered they were not Iranian after all."

(This follows statements by the acting Iraqi Prime Minister, which refuted the American claims which are designed to start another illegal war, and showed that Iran is not arming, nor training, members of the Iraqi Resistance.)

Now the Wall Street Journal has added a fresh twist to the mystery of the alleged Iranian arms, writing that "the U.S. military, in a shift, has postponed the release of a report detailing allegations of Iranian support for Iraqi insurgents, according to people familiar with the matter."

According to the Journal, "The military had initially planned to publicize the report several weeks ago but instead turned the dossier over to the Iraqi government, these people said. The Iraqis are using the information to pressure Tehran to curb the flow of Iranian weaponry and explosives into Iraq, these people said."

The Iraqi government, which has close ties to Iran (but closer ties to the US ...), has found itself in the middle of growing tensions between that nation and the United States and is under increasing US pressure to take a firm stand with Iran on its alleged support for militant Shi'ites within Iraq.

The Journal added that US military spokespeople were unable to say when the report -- which allegedly includes both photographs of Iranian-made weapons and descriptions of interrogation sessions with captured militants -- would be released.

(I suppose it would have to be faked convincingly first ...)

"Another military official said in an interview that the report could be delayed significantly, noting that it was "'in the hands of the [Iraqi central government].'"

Unthinkable.
