Thursday, May 15, 2008, Santa Ana, CA: Labor unions from Orange County and San Diego County gathered at the Plaza of the Flags in the Civic Center in Santa Ana to protest Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new plan on budget cuts.

Deep cuts to public education, health care, welfare recipients, law enforcement, parks, probation departments, and the disabled are expected. Massive layoffs of certificated and classified employees in school districts throughout California have already occurred.

Orange County Employees' Association President Frank Eley said that the proposed reductions will cut services and programs to children, seniors and working families. “Working Californians have been abandoned and are facing economic disaster. It is time we invest in the future of working families,” Eley said.
