KPFK is not openly searching

by sidestepper Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at 3:44 PM

KPFK restricts applications to it's Genl Mgr Search Committee - why ?

KPFK's Gen'l Mgr Search Committee too closed to apply ::

Strange things seem to happen at this "freedom loving" station...things are not as free as stated and claimed, again & again....

There is a GENERAL MANAGER SEARCH COMMITTEE...that has set it's deadline for application "before January 3. Applicants will need to appear in person at the Jan 2008 LSB meeting" there is no date of when this was written on the blurb on KPFK's LSB area on website....

Did everyone else know this was available to apply for ?

4 different LSB members suggested that J.D. apply and then only LATER did JD find out that the deadline was already long gone - before even the suggestions were sincerely given. It took much long searching thru the webpage to find what then became obvious....there appears to be a reluctance to allow The-Many-Who-May-Want- To-Apply KNOW that there is a process, now not available. Only those who may have heard 2 radio program / announcements in Dec. may have learned about this availablity....to be able to apply their skills & know how to help the station.

Only 3 listener/subscribers can apply, if they did so already by Jan. 3/08. And then appear at the Jan. LSB meeting ....wonder how many did ? Too late now. Too bad for you or JD too.

"KPFK belongs to you, the listener-sponsor" the committee announcement blurb says. sure... then why doesn't the front KPFK webpage announce such opportunities more openly, & be more easy-to-find ...instead of hiding it in the LSB links [got to keep linking and linking to find out if there is any info the rest of us all have missed]

A few Disgruntled applicants have been told they did not meet criteria but NOT TOLD what specifically kept them OUT of the committee. Where is the claimed
T R A N S P A R E N C Y ??

and open feedback so others who wanted to apply could learn from those who were rejected ?

What WAS the criteria for picking up applicants, before Jan 3 that is ?

What is the decision making process of selecting who gets on this committee ? How are those deciders picked ?
huh ? huh ?

WHERE ARE THE MINUTES OF THE LSB MEETING ON JAN 24 ? when today is Feb 24 and it is NOT yet on their website !!!!

How can listener/volunteers/subscribers actually participate in a responsible position ..... beyond answering pledge drive phones and cleaning kitchen ?

why is the PROCESS at KPFK that makes it so politically the same as any other corporation or govt beaurocracy ?

Where is this listener-owner-participation beyond the menial, clerical level ?

Just to listen to LSB members argue amongst each other at their meetings is not participatory . Just to arrive at KPFK to stuff envelopes or deliver supplies is not significant participation.

Why are these doors so easily and often closed ?

Will someone who knows something more tell us alll ?
[ pretty please]

Winograd program still on I hear

by Henry Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at 9:31 PM

I heard that Lila Garrett and Grace Aaron, with support of Ian Masters, had decided on Marcie Winograd for the new general manager sometime last year. I understand that this remains the program.

Marcie and Grace, I hear, are upset with what has happened to Hillary. Obama might not send them a White House Christmas card.

who CAN decide on GM at KPFK?

by sidestepper Tuesday, Mar. 04, 2008 at 4:15 PM

No celebrities or single people can make the decision who will be the KPFK gen'l manager, not even those who think they have so much influence or power...
so they can hope, influence, attempt, whatever....
but do not make decisions on their own....

KPFK has a long, convulted, complicated process,
one hard to apply for, to penetrate, to even figure out.
check out their LSB notes for the confusion therein.

I hope they follow Ian Masters' lead

by Matt Thursday, Mar. 06, 2008 at 10:54 PM

Ian Masters is, by far, the best and most important show produced by KPFK. I hope the serious news and political information faction (that is, Masters' faction) wins the current battle. Otherwise, the station isn't worth supporting (I can give to Amy Goodman directly).
