Many people stopped and played the game ("Pin the Chain Saw on the Tree"). There was also a letter to Office Max, which people could sign. Numerous leaflets were distributed as well. A large, colorful banner caught the attention of many motorists and pedestrians.

On Saturday, Febuary 2, a demonstration was held in front of Office Max in Pasadena, one of some 30 similar actions at Office Maxes in the U.S./Canada. Office Max sells paper derived from ancient forests that are home to the Grassy Narrows First Nation. The issue is described in greater detail here: http://ran.org/what_we_do/old_growth/campaigns/officemax_grand_toy/ The Pasadena action included a game called "Pin the Chain Saw on the Tree." Passersby were invited to play this variation of Pin the Tail on the Donkey, which included a chain saw sound effect, by a speil resembling that of a carnival barker. When people succeeded in attaching a chain saw to the tree, the barker would ask, "Do you feel like Office Max now?" Many people stopped and played this game. There was also a letter to Office Max, which people could sign. Numerous leaflets were distributed as well. A large, colorful banner caught the attention of many motorists and pedestrians. Some people expressed indifference, and one Office Max customer barked "GET A LIFE!" (Although, even this person couldn't keep from smiling at the "Chain Saw" game.) However, the overall reaction seemed positive.

This was the highlight of the event - this girl was protecting the tree. She put herself between the (pretend) chainsaw and the tree. We'd recruit someone to play, and she'd try to convince them not to cut down the trees 'cause we need the trees.
