Bernard Hoffman owns many apartment buildings around Los Angeles. He is notorious for taking unfounded deductions from his tenants' security deposits. Don't let him intimidate you. Just read up on the legal codes and be prepared when you meet up in court. I took him to court and won. The judge basically laughed in his face.
Look at his reviews on Yelp. He's been acting unlawfully for a long time to many of his tenants.

Hoffman has withheld my security deposit without good cause, without substantiating documents or invoices. Ignores Civil Codes regarding tenant rights and simply adds insult to injury. He and his associate connive to make the most profit by disregarding tenant rights. Caveat Emptor. Avoid doing business with this corrupt man.
