Reports are coming in from all over of people who didn't get ballots, people who didn't get replacements, people who were disenfranchised of their opportunity to vote in the 2007 KPFK Local Station Board elections. After years of struggle to get democratic elections at the Pacifica Radio Network, it seems that someone just couldn't get it together to get the ballots out of every member.
A non-partisan listener, committed to making this experiment in corporate democracy work, wants to hear from you. Send your story by January 1 to pnb@pacifica.com, lostballot@yahoo.com, pacifica@mail2casey.com (the Pacifica National Board, the KPFK member, and the National Elections Supervisor).
Include your contact information and whatever details you can recall. Are you a member by volunteering, through a waiver, or by a cash contribution? When did you become a member? How long have you been a member? Did you get a ballot in the November 23 mailing? Did you lose it? Did you decide to change it? Did you know you could request a replacement? Or didn't you get a ballot at all? Did you request one? What was the response?
I have no access to this email box, but the owner has agreed to let me
know generally how many complaints come in and if there seems to be a
pattern.
And I promise you, whether or not I'm elected, if the emails you send prove that what I'm hearing is more than anectodal, I will take this up with the Local Station Board and the Pacfica National Board. Pacifica members struggled too long and suffered too much to get this vote to let it slip away.
I have just lost hope in KPFK. All that people worked years to achieve has gone down the drain.
I hear that Grace Aaron and her friends have confidence that they won the election because the ballots came in relatively early and most people who voted had only their slate mailer and knew nothing of the issues raised on LA Indy Media. They think they did the right thing by stonewalling and ignoring the questions asked them.
Someone asked on the KPFK Sound Off Forum if KPFK will report Cindy Sheehan's latest challenge to Nancy Pelosi for saying nothing about the destruction of the CIA interrogations tapes. I suspect that the Grace and her PDA people will see that Cindy goes in the memory hole.
The next fight, for those who still have any fight in them, I think, will be to save Amy Goodman.
I find that it's pointless to vote in any election. Elections are ways in which people in power pretend that they're a Democracy or that they're involved in a community with fairness. In fact elections are always pre-determined and voting is left something that rubes and marks still do.
No offense to anyone.
are the 90 MILLION americans that DON'T VOTE. then they complain that they have no or lousy healthcare.
