Minutemen Provoke, Pepper Spray, in Simi Valley : LA IMC

SIMI VALLEY, California, Sunday, September 16, 2007: At 10 a.m., 40 pro-immigrant supporters and about 80 Minutemen and their supporters gathered on each side of the driveway leading to the parking lot of the United Church of Christ on Royal Avenue where Liliana took refuge from the Immigration Services.

During the protest, a small group of three Minutemen came on the pro-immigrant side apparently to provoke. Pro-immigrant supporters complained to the Simi Valley PD, but to no avail. Despite the angry protests of immigrant supporters, the police didn’t force the Minutemen to move, Half an hour later at 11: 12 a.m. a Minuteman pepper sprayed Naui Hutizilopochtli, an immigrant activist, so badly that he had to be taken to the hospital by paramedics.

The protests went on until 1 p.m. without further incidents.

The Sprayer

The pepper spraying coward's name is Brook, aka Immigration Watchdog from the website with the same name. Member of Save Our State.
Wearing khaki shorts, black shoes, army green short sleeved shirt, floppy khaki hat, possibly bald. Carrying large video camera with fuzzy audio boom.

Was not seen after pepperspray incident, fled scene. Reports Naui took a "swing" at him. No witnesses report any use of force by Naui. An SOS/NMI member publicly states that Brook & a couple other SOS members crossed over to pro-immigrant side to invoke & tape.Another SOS member states Naui VERBALLY pissed off Brook, inciting him to pepperspray Naui, which is against California state law. One must be physically threatened to lawfully discharge pepperspray.
Usually 'Watchdog' (Brook) tapes everything. It is very suspicious that there is no VIDEO TAPE EVIDENCE of "Naui's so-called attack" , nor of the actual spraying. One can only assume Naui never attacked Brook, for he would have, or another SOS member, caught it on tape. Plus Brook flees scene immediatley after incident.
Brook is currently under investigation by the Simi Valley police department.

Its going to be a case of he said she said that will go nowhere. No real witnesses to back up what Naui will say, and be sure that no one like Dennis will ever support Naui.

Title of this thread is misleading

Marcus, the title of your thread is totally off--"Minutemen provoked, pepper-sprayed".

It gives the FALSE impression that the anti-racists provoked the Minutemen and then pepper-sprayed the Minutemen. Honestly, that's what I thought when I first read the headline.

Advise: Please change.

A much better headline would be: "MinuteNazis Pepper-Spray Peaceful Counter-Protestors" or something to that effect--much clearer and more accurate.

I know, I noticed that too. If it really was a case of self defense and they were a group of decent people following a standard operating procedure, one would think they would be like "it was a situation we narrowly escaped and unfortunately I had to use my pepper spray self defense device." But I know Naui enough to know that he does not attack people. His persistence with the camera and asking questions is noticeable, but it's about 1/8 of the persistence you see from Minuteman/SOS members.

Also, MM/SOS are showing what hooligans they are by laughing at this incident, trying to decide who "deserves" being hit with pepper spray. If they get away with this, who knows what else they'll do.

I wonder if a lawyer will ask to represent Hummingbird and sue SOS as a group. Being that they had video and witnessed it, i would imagine a "conspiracy to commit assault" or the likes could be filed against them.

If there was ever a lawsuit they would need to ID the leaders of SOS to go after a conspiracy charge. Did they give their videos to police? One would imagine they would cooperate with police being that they say they are for law enforcement.

Its time to fight back. The minmen consistently spray one or two protesters and the police stand around and do nothing.
If the police will not protect the protesters, then they have every right to defend themselves against tyranny.
The next rally should have a black bloc contingent there to protect the pro-immigration people.
