Here Is Where Al Gore Is Coming From - You Had Best Be Aware

by Don Beck Saturday, Jul. 07, 2007 at 6:55 AM

An Update of Climate Science From Around the World This is a collection of articles from google alerts, and a few sites such as NOAA from the past year and a half. It is very compelling information mostly not published in the American corporate media, and shows why the energy giants are spending many millions on their massive dis-information campaign. Please pass this on and post it everywhere you can. And please sign the petition being promoted this weekend with the global environmental music festival.

No Link Between Cosmic Rays and Global Warming

According to Sloan and Wolfendale, the 2000 paper highlighting the

connection between cosmic rays and low-level clouds completely

avoids clouds at other altitudes. This is surprising because cosmic

ray ionization should increase with altitude. Cosmic rays should be

intercepted earlier by the atmosphere and turned into clouds, not

down at the lowest altitudes. If cosmic rays were to blame, you would

expect the exact opposite, with more high-altitude clouds.

Solar Activity Not a Significant Factor of Global Warming

-You'd still get an increase in greenhouse warming even if the atmosphere

were saturated, because it's the absorption in the thin upper atmosphere

(which is unsaturated) that counts

-Water vapor doesn't overwhelm the effects of CO2 because there's little

water vapor in the high, cold regions from which infrared escapes....

Failing ocean current raises fears of mini ice age

The ocean current that gives western Europe its relatively balmy climate is

stuttering, raising fears that it might fail entirely and plunge the continent into

a mini ice age.

Melting Ice

We'd always thought that the Greenland ice sheet would slowly melt

down and slowly contribute to sea level rise. But what we're seeing now

is that that's not the case.

The global land-surface temperature was the highest for the month of May

Arctic Ice 50%

"the ice has thinned by nearly 50 percent in the past four decades."

"....this is all part of a pattern that suggests things are happening more

quickly than we had expected,"

Any Scientific Statements “of Official Interest” Must be Pre-Approved

“Under this policy, National Weather Service scientists can only give out name,

rank, serial number and the temperature” stated PEER Executive Director Jeff Ruch.

Climate change more dire than feared

"What we're seeing, in the summertime particularly, is the (sea ice)

that we've observed is actually declining much faster than the models

have shown.

Antarctic melting may be speeding up

"I feel that we're getting uncomfortably close to threshold,"

said John Church, of Australia's CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric

Research said.

Past this level, parts of the Antarctic and Greenland would

approach a virtually irreversible melting that would produce

sea level rises of meters, he said.

But the Antarctic Peninsula is warming faster than anywhere

else on Earth, and glaciers are in massive retreat.

Climate - We have much less time to act than we thought.

“The climate crisis is bearing down on us much

faster than most people realize.” McKibben said.

Changes we make in our homes, cars, fuels and

buildings....vital as they are, can’t deliver the speed

or magnitude of change.....but we also need to

change laws.

These conclusions indicate the need for extremely

aggressive legislation to cap carbon emissions as

soon as possible. We have much less time to act

than we thought.

rallies. McKibben wrote the first book on global warming in

Climate scientist 'duped to deny global warming'

A Leading US climate scientist is considering legal action after he says he was

duped into appearing in a Channel 4 documentary that claimed man-made global

warming is a myth. Carl Wunsch, professor of physical oceanography at the

Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said the film, The Great Global Warming

Swindle, was 'grossly distorted' and 'as close to pure propaganda as anything

since World War Two'.

He says his comments in the film were taken out of context and that he would

not have agreed to take part if he had known it would argue that man-made global

warming was not a serious threat. 'I thought they were trying to educate the public

about the complexities of climate change,' he said. 'This seems like a deliberate

attempt to exploit someone who is on the other side of the issue.' He is considering

a complaint to Ofcom, the broadcast regulator.,,2031455,00.html

Nuclear Power is Green - NOT

Here is an article that talks of a new study

that shows nuclear to be not green, and the

study did not even take into account the huge

cost of decommissioning the plants after thier

40 years of production which must be done with

robots because of the extreme radiation. The

author apparently also has not been informed of

the new Solar Voltaic panels that bring the cost

of solar equal to coal plants.

South African solar research eclipses rest of the world

How green is nuclear power?

By Mark Clayton | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

"Saying nuclear is carbon-free is not true," says Uwe Fritsche, a researcher at

the Öko Institut in Darmstadt, Germany, who has conducted a life-cycle analysis

of the plants.

Nuclear power has more than just a little greenhouse gas attached to it, when

mining uranium ore, refining and enriching fuel, building the plant, and operating

it are included. A big 1,250 megawatt plant produces the equivalent of 250,000

tons of carbon dioxide a year during its life, Dr. Fritsche says.

Officials in the nuclear power industry say references to carbon-free energy in their

promotions refer only to the power-plant operation – and are not intended to describe

carbon emissions during the entire nuclear life cycle. reactors gives two to 10 times less climate solution for the amount of

coal-power displaced than if you had bought cheaper solutions with the same dollars."

Tundra Disappearing At Rapid Rate

"It's like it waited until conditions were just right

and then it decided to get up and run, not just

walk.".....This sets up a "positive feedback," the

same process that is associated with the rapidly

decaying Arctic ice cap.

Your Govt Working Hard to Keep You Uninformed - Evidence

The House Oversight and Government Reform

Committee has received a few of the documents

it has requested from the White House after

months of filing requests in their "investigation

into suspicions that the Bush White House has

edited scientific reports to downplay the effects

of global warming."

......During the Jan. 30 hearing, Waxman said documents provided to the

committee last fall showed changes were made in a draft EPA report

to add "balance" by emphasizing "beneficial effects" of climate change.

Other changes deleted a discussion of health and environmental effects

of climate change and added language saying atmospheric concentrations

of carbon are not a "good indicator of climate change," the chairman said.

The documents also showed that a statement was removed indicating

that "changes observed over the last several decades are likely mostly

the result of human activities," Waxman said.

This was rewritten to state that the link between human activity and global

warming cannot be "unequivocally established," he added.

No Bush administration officials testified at the January hearing. ......

Climate Change Impact 'underestimated due to undeclared emissions'

The UK's real impact on global warming has been

hugely underestimated, according to new research

out today.

A report published by Christian Aid reveals millions of tonnes of greenhouse gases

produced by some of the UK's top firms are not being declared.

Almost 200 million tonnes of carbon dioxide - equivalent to around one-third of the

UK's currently declared annual emissions - is missing from the annual reports of

major companies on the London Stock Exchange. But these "missing millions"

are only a small fraction of total undeclared emissions.

Believe it or not, snow PROVES global warming

And the 10 feet of snow recently dumped on communities bordering

Lake Ontario in northern New York? Those people would probably

whack you with a snow shovel if you mentioned global warming.

Nathan Currier just smiles. He likes it when people mention lake-effect

snowstorms, because it means they have walked right into his benign trap.

“Actually,” he said recently, “those snowstorms are really a confirmation

of global warming. The lake used to be frozen at this time of year, which

cut down on the moisture coming off it. Now, you’ve got a lot of moisture

and cooler temperatures, which creates more snow.”

One scientific report which was published

the day of the IPCC report shows that the

sea level rise will be much more than

stated by the IPCC. Here are excerpts

from an excellent article posted to the

Monthly Review:

Lack of lake ice a harbinger of things to come

However, the average of the past 20 years compared to previous decades

shows how the ice season is rapidly becoming shorter.

....records show the average ice season for the past 20 years

is now 95 days, a reduction of one month in the last 20 years.

Carbon dioxide rate is at highest level for 650,000 years

Carbon dioxide is the principal greenhouse gas responsible for global

warming and, in 2005, concentrations stood at 379 parts per million (ppm).

This compares to a pre-industrial level of 278 ppm, and a range over the

previous 650,000 years of between 180 and 300 ppm, the report says.

The fallout of global warming: 1,000 years

Humans have already caused so much damage to the atmosphere

that the effects of global warming will last for more than 1,000 years,

according to a summary of a climate-change report being prepared by

the world's leading scientists.

The draft, seen by The Globe and Mail yesterday, also says evidence

the world is heating up is now so strong it is “unequivocal” and predicts

more frequent heat waves, droughts and rain storms, as well as more

violent typhoons and hurricanes. It concludes the higher temperatures

observed during the past 50 years are so dramatically different from

anything in the climate record that the last half-century period was likely

the hottest in at least the past 1,300 years.

Moreover, 11 of the past 12 years rank among the warmest since humans

began taking accurate temperature measurements in the 1850s, a record

of extremes so pronounced it is unlikely to be due to chance.

Scientists offered cash to dispute climate study

Scientists and economists have been offered ,000 each by a

lobby group funded by one of the world's largest oil companies to

undermine a major climate change report due to be published today.

Letters sent by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), an

ExxonMobil-funded thinktank with close links to the Bush administration,

offered the payments for articles that emphasise the shortcomings of a

report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).,,2004397,00.html

European countries have warmest January on record

were first measured in 1706, the Dutch meteorological institute KNMI

said on Wednesday, averaging about 7.1 degrees Celsius -- 2.8 degrees

more than usual.

Exposing ExxonMobil's GW Disinformation Campaign by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

“Exxon has responded to roars of recent outrage over its anti-social antics by announcing that it has stopped funding the Competitive Enterprise Institute which has collected over million from the oil giant since 1998 to weave lies about climate change - and 4-5 other groups that Exxon refused to name. Exxon’s new contrition is hardly sincere. The company still continues to fund 40 other groups in its unrelenting campaign of deception… As evidence of the company’s insincerity, Exxon’s chief executive and CEO Rex Tillerson, on Friday told world leaders in Davos that oil companies should not be held esponsible for global warming. The blame, he argued, rests instead with the very consumers and government officials his company has spent millions of dollars manipulating and defrauding. America is a decade late in addressing the serious threat from global warming largely due to ExxonMobil’s campaign of deliberate deception. ExxonMobil’s conduct amounts to a war on civilization. The company can’t simply sweep this legacy of fraud and villainy under the rug with a paid op-ed campaign in the New York Times, or with oily statements shifting the blame to consumers. The company needs to cease its campaign of deception completely if it is to genuinely atone for its crimes against humanity.”
