The California Black Walnut trees that formed the center of resistance against the eviction of the South Central Farm will be moved to the Huntington Library.
This will be happening 6/19/2007
It is a sad day for all of us whole looked to these trees for strength as we held our vision of a livable city.
At 2:30 June 20, I spoke to a person at the Botanical Gardens who said the trees are now upright in their boxes where they will sit for an undetermined time before being planted in the ground. Her report is they look okay for the trip. We all wish them well and look forward to visiting soon.
There are reports that tree sitter John Quigley received minor injuries while trying to prevent damage to the trees as the trees were being removed from the land.
According to reports his arm was cut up by barbwire while he was trying to untangle tree branches caught in the fencing during the removal.
