Back to MacArthur Park

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Speaker Fabian Núñez and radio host El Piolin are billed as participants in a Thursday procession and candlelight vigil for immigration reform at MacArthur Park. They gather at Immanuel Presbyterian Church at Wilshire and Berendo about 5:30 pm and begin walking about 6:40. Meanwhile, Chief Bratton guests on KPCC's "Patt Morrison" show this afternoon at 2 pm, and something tells me he will be asked about the May 1 police incident.

On topic: The California Chicano News Media Association and the Greater Los Angeles chapter of SPJ host "La Gran Marcha: Getting the Perfect Image," a panel of photojournalists talking bout covering immigrant marches in Los Angeles, on Friday, May 25 at The Perfect Exposure Gallery in Koreatown.

don't boycott--challenge!

by jubilee shine Thursday, May. 17, 2007 at 1:11 PM

i feel ya sylvia but i think its a mistake to boycott the miwon/la ct labor fed event because then they will unchallenged present a single face to the immigrant question- lapd/mayor v-rat/miwon/maria elena durazo & accomplices smiling holding candles calling for vague "immigration reform" (same as bush!).

in fact we shd have seen this coming miles away. durazo is mayor v-rat's partner (they were just in china). she co-signed miwon's statement blaming "outside agitators" for "provoking" the lapd, providing them "cause" which will undermine any meaningful lawsuit, then miwon circles wagons with impressionable youth orgs & takes charge of the lawsuit. then calls for another happy march, i mean "vigil & procession" with v-rat up front for the cameras. we might see bratton & pretty boy mayweather there wearing sombreros.

we must appear as visible opposition to this fraud & provide true voice to immigrant crisis. signs &c. i suggest "full amnesty & voting rights now! community control over the police!". last year's gran marcha slogan was hoy marchamos, manana votamos! marchin today, votin tomorrow! this is why bratton attacked- to show who runs l.a. & why we must organize independent mayday defense committee --reconsider...

Don't be FOOLED! THIS WAS A COMING POLICE STATE PARAMILITARY URBAN EXCERCISE!

by V : THE LAPD 'RIOT' WAS PREMEDITATED! Thursday, May. 17, 2007 at 2:18 PM

DON'T BE FOOLED!

THIS WAS A (COMING POLICE STATE) PARAMILITARY URBAN EXCERCISE.

WHAT THE U.S. GOVERNMENT HAS SPONSORED OR SUPPORTED BEFORE IN LATIN AMERICA IS COMING TO THE UNITED STATES.

THIS LAPD RIOT WAS *NOT* "JUST SOMETHING THAT WENT HAYWIRE" -- OR "THE LAPD OUT OF CONTROL".

IT WAS A *PREMEDITATED*, *FULLY -COORDINATED*, *PRE-PLANNED* ATTACK ON THE PEOPLE -- EVEN ATTACKING THE MEDIA -- INVOLVING MANY 100'S OF PARAMILITARY COPS & SWAT TEAMS ON FOOT, ON MOTORCYCLES, IN VEHICLES, AND IN HELICOPTERS -- ALL IN RADIO AND VIDEO COMMUNICATIONS WITH THEIR COMMAND CENTERS.

In a police state, the police are the enemy of the people

by Arm the homeless Friday, May. 18, 2007 at 7:15 AM

The attack on May Day shows that the state fears it is losing power. Keep the pressure on.

The mayor is complicit in this attack. He knew it was coming that’s why he was out the country when it happened.

If the mayor and other elected officials attend the march today it is nothing more than an attempt to co-opt and de-mobilize the movement. Don’t fall for it. If the mayor shows heckle him for betraying his own people. Shout him down for the South Central Farmers he betrayed. http://www.la.indymedia.org/archives/archive_by_id.php?id=1176&category_id=3 Yell at him for parading with Minutemen. http://www.la.indymedia.org/archives/archive_by_id.php?id=1191&category_id=3

IF NO LAPD HEADS ROLL, THEN YOU KNOW THE LAPD MAY 1ST POLICE RIOT WAS PRE-PLANNED.

by IF NO LAPD HEADS ROLL, U KNOW IT WAS PLANNED Saturday, May. 19, 2007 at 2:57 PM

IF NO LAPD HEADS ROLL -- IF NO HIGHER UPS GETS FIRED -- OVER THE LAPD MAY 1ST POLICE RIOT, THEN YOU *KNOW* IT WAS PREMEDITATED, PRE-OKAYED, AND *PRE-PLANNED*.
