Protest MacArthur Park Police Brutality at CSULA

by Wrench in System Tuesday, May. 08, 2007 at 1:14 PM

Protest police brutality, the war machine, and racism at the grand opening of the Criminology Lab at CSULA on Friday, May 11th, at 2pm. The site of the grand opening is at Cal State Los Angeles, on the corner of Eastern Ave and State University Dr. It is expected that many politicians (including Arnold) as well as the who's who of law enforcement will be present. Say no to their fascist plans!

"Hertzberg-Davis Forensic Science Center Grand Opening
(More details to come.) The new facility will jointly house LAPD’s Scientific Investigation Division, the Sheriff’s Department Scientific Services Bureau, Cal State L.A.’s School of Criminal Justice and Criminalistics, and the California Forensic Science Institute at Cal State L.A.

Even though politicians want us to believe that the recent police brutality at MacArthur Park is an isolated incident, it reflects the violent and racist nature of the police. While Cardinal Mahoney and others on television attempt to pacify us by seeking "reconciliation" between police and the working class, there can be no reconciliation with an institution whose primary purpose is to repress the masses of working people while protecting the rich and powerful

And in a grand opening of a criminology lab created in conjunction with the L.A.P.D., among others, we must protest against this expansion of an already repressive apparatus. They want us, particularly here at CSULA (which has among the lowest avg income level of any CSU) to believe that this lab will create and jobs and reduce crime. What they aren't mentioning is that law enforcement does nothing to eliminate poverty-- it only criminalizes it.

With massive lay-offs, cuts to social services, tuition-hikes, and profit-driven resource wars, we can see that the working class is feeling the effects of the system. In order to squelch rebellions and class anger, they are increasing surveillance, repression, and imprisonment, while pushing pro-war patriotism, nationalism, and anti-immigrant racism.

We should take an uncompromising stand against the beefing-up of Law Enforcement and Homeland Security at CSULA and beyond.

No to immigration raids!
No to police brutality!
No to the War!

We must not allow this racism and repression to continue! Come Friday and join the demonstration!

I think that you use the term "racism" a little too much in your argument without specifying what you mean. What was racist about what happened at MacAthur Park? Why would the "racist" police protect all of the protesters the enitre day before this incident? The police were clearing the park of everyone. I didn't see them going after only Hispanic people.

frice@skeptictank.org

Count on a bunch of white supremacists SOSMM scumbags turning out to support, applaud, and defend their fellow fascist scumbags and their crimes against America. Wouldn't surprise me seeing what we know about such trash.

My opinions only and only my opinions.
