Tanton and FAIR take over the Anti – Immigrant movement

Recent events have set the heads of Minutemen everywhere spinning on their shoulders.

Jim Gilchrist, head honcho of the Minuteman Project has been fired by the group’s board, which claims the former CPA embezzled some $70,000.00 in Minuteman funds, appropriating the money to finance his campaign for Congress, and to promote his recent autobiography.

The Minuteman Project has been taken over by Marvin Stewart, a Black minister who is one of a number of Black anti- migrant activists being groomed for national leadership in the Minutemen and related movements. Stewart is being pushed by Minuteman Project board member Barbara Coe, who, along with more powerful and talented allies behind the scenes, has orchestrated the ouster of Gilchrist and his replacement with Stewart.

While the Minutemen are caught up in the Gilchrist drama, a more sweeping takeover of their movement is underway on a national scale. The Minuteman Project upheaval is only a single part of a bigger picture. While Gilchrist allies complain about “internal terrorists” taking over his project, the fact is that groups like the Minutemen Project and Save Our State are being taken over from within and neutralized – by outside agencies.

And despite the most recent Minutemen fantasies, Karl Rove and the White House didn’t meet with the “internal terrorists” behind Gilchrist’s ouster. He didn’t need to. Other, more obvious forces were at work.

Across the US, arch racist and money man John Tanton’s FAIR and U.S. Inc., understanding the need for a buffer against the charges of racism that have crippled the movement’s potential, have been grooming Black leaders for the anti- migrant movement, even as Tanton’s allies have sought to undermine the movement’s current power base.

Tanton ally Barbara Coe, Gilchrist’s key enemy, heads CCIR, a group that’ received substantial monies from Tanton and FAIR.

Tanton has funded and created “Choose Black America”, an effort to shine a national spotlight on Black anti-migrants, funding trips for Blacks like Coe allies Ted Hayes and James Spencer to media hotspots like Chicago, where the Arellano case has received international media attention. Last May, Tanton funded the expenses of ten Black Minutemen supporters to Washington D.C. for the founding of “Choose Black America,” and a press conference he’d arranged for them at the National Press Club.

In August, FAIR footed the bill for three “Choose Black America” members to travel to New Orleans for a Hurricane Katrina anniversary press conference – another shot at gaining international press for the new leadership corps that Tanton is grooming.

In the meantime, Save Our State – once the meanest anti- migrant group in the country under the leadership of Joe Turner, has been adrift and rudderless for months, carrying out none of the brash actions that characterized the early Turner and that made the group’s reputation. Now, second and third string players organize tiny, insignificant actions, harassing day laborers. Even the group’s best efforts are now “organized” by the second string, and it shows. SOS can’t seem to Pay for the media attention that used to come so freely, unless it’s from the National Review- not even with a protest in front of the home of L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Turner has gone into a damp hard shell, spending all his activist energies, not on Save Our State, but on his new job, working for John Tanton, the “Puppeteer” of the movement, as Tom Tancredo and others have called him, at FAIR.

On March 15, 2004 Jason Riley, of the Wall Street Journal wrote a scathing editorial connecting Tanton, FAIR, and Tanton’s Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) with China’s one child policy and “…CIS considers the Sierra Club, which cites “stabilizing world population” fourth on its 21st century to-do list, as too moderate. And like FAIR, CIS has called for a target U.S. population of 150 million, about half of what it is today….”

i was wondering what happened to turner. after his election defeat, i figured he was purposefully keeping a low profile and nursing his ego. sos does seem to have lost its momentum lately. the pix i saw from last saturday were pathetic. one would think that protesting if front of the mayor's home would be major news. not this time! in some of them turner looked like he was gaining weight. that cant be good for his "frat boy" looks. lol.

I think some of you have blinders on, or you are beginning to see the extent of the censorship in this country. We have been out on the streets, although minus the coverage mentioned here. Personally, I am happy to see the media ignoring us. All they do is spew lies and misinformation, so why solicit to them? I'll do better to make them meaningless, and go take the news directly to the people myself, thereby skipping the step of censoring and manipulation.

To keep the industry at bay, the Biosecurity commission now grants permits for "experimental" stations where the grain can be grown under government supervision - the Monsanto corporation is now testing its "YieldGuard" brand corn on hundreds of hectares in Sinaloa state, the most prolific corn-producing state in Mexico. A spillover of YieldGuard in Sinaloa could contaminate a big chunk of the existing corn supply."

Default Exciting Changes at Save Our State
Hello Everyone:

I wanted to take a moment to inform you about some really exciting changes at Save Our State.

I have been blessed with the opportunity to work for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based out of Washington, D.C. I am now their new Western Field Representative in charge of cultivating activists, helping provide resources and direction to existing organizations, as well as helping to establish new organizations. I am also able to serve as a legislative liaison of sorts and communicate directly to our elected officials and the like. As their Western Field Representative, I will cover several states for the organization.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for myself and ultimately for Southern California based organizations and activists as I will now have access to resources that were previously unavailable. My ability to work full time as an activist for FAIR will allow me to work on and develop additional ideas and strategies designed to bring about real change.

As a result of this new employment and the demands of this position, I simply will be unable to maintain the day to day operations of Save Our State. Truth be told, even before I was hired by FAIR, I was unable to run Save Our State as effectively as I would have liked given my work and family committments.

Over the last two and half years or so, Save Our State has grown to be one of the most visible organizations (and easily the most hated) in the movement as a result of hard nosed, in your face activism. It was through the support of Save Our State, that I was able to create and introduce the Illegal Immigration Relief Act, which has become a model for communities all across the country, including Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Escondido, California, etc. The IIRA is perhaps, one of the most important developments in the illegal immigration debate over the last two years as it has completely revolutionized the thinking in our movement by taking a bottom up approach, versus the top down method.

Our opponents, by their own admission, are reeling from this and are now required to spend inordinate amounts of time, resources and energy batting down these fires all across the nation...as opposed to being able to use these resources to further their agenda. They are on defense.

Over the last few years, I have had the joy and privilege of meeting many great Americans...great activists. As a result of my new position, Save Our State is now in the process of transitioning from its previous incarnation of a single leader structure, to a more committee based leadership structure.

There will be growing pains and difficulties, but there will also be benefits from this change. Although I have many strengths I also have many weaknesses. Some of them are my inability to raise finances, my inability to aggressively seek out contributions and inability to delegate responsibilities. Although I am great at not being a micromanager, I am terrible at giving up control of certain tasks. Consequently, even though we as an organization have grown so much, I know that we can grow even more.

The new structure is going to bring about more diverse ideas and strategies. It is going to break up the work load and allow more people to get involved and invested in the organization. This is going cause more people to buy in and thus, generate a higher degree of committment. This infusion of new ideas and strategies, coupled with my new position and access to resources allows me to say without question, that I believe Save Our State is in for the best year, yet.

We are going to see a more professional business appearance. We working on our letterhead, the website, and putting in a phone line. Although we are never going to forsake our street level activist roots, the committee structure will allow us to pursue other paths in all areas of our organization, allowing us to diversify and reach out to different groups/demographics.

We are also aware of the fact that there will always be possible areas of concern, chiefly paralysis by analysis, unity and lack of cohesive direction and so forth. Although I will no longer be the face of Save Our State and running day to day operations, I am still committed to this organization and will still be assisting the leadership in any way that I can.

Do not forget that after all the hours upon hours of blood, sweat and tears I have poured into this organization, the last thing I am going to do is simply walk away. Save Our State is to me, what many businesses are to entreprenuers. There is a huge emotional investment and I want the organization to continue to succeed and grow.

I often stated that the movement is bigger than one person and this is the ultimate proof of my sincerity when I make such a statement. Save Our State is bigger than myself and will continue to grow and be a voice in the debate on this issue.

As many of you may be wondering, who are these new leaders. Well, the new leaders are the old leaders...folks who have been in the trenches with us over the years. I do not feel comfortable divulging the names of each of these folks, but I will share a couple.

Chelene (PatrioticDream) and Don Silva (Oldpreach) are the two main/public leaders of Save Our State. AZ Patriot is in charge of our website and technical issues. Others, will focus or concentrate on specific areas to advance the cause.

If your synthesis is on target - and so far looks like it is - then if Joe is Western Coordinator, or what have you - for Tanton, then it means there is a good probability that he not only knew what was coming down with Barbara Coe driving Jim Gilchrist out of the Minuteman Project, but that Joe had a hand in it.

Joe was obviously hiding his role in FAIR from his own people in SOS. SO, what else is he hiding?

It's funny how they act live activists, yet there are still people trying to take control of things. They seem to find difficulty in finding true unity and solidarity, when instead there are other motives and agendas. I'm not trying to sound like an anarchist, but it's a typical mindset conditioned in the US where instead of thinking "what can I do for us" they're really thinking "what can I get out of this, how much can I get, and how do I get control of what's going on".

Once Tanton kicks the bucket all his organizations and satellite organizations will be rudderless. With Gilchrist axed and no other visible heir apparent Turner's having dreams of grandeur. Tanton doesn't want to see his life's work run adrift until forgotten. He needs a protoge, a position that Turner no doubt would just love to have.

At Save Our State Turner is just a two time loser. But he can rewrite his own history after just a few years as Tanton II.

But there is a problem. Tanton is an exceptionally intelligent man. Turner isn't.

Immigration sells almost as good as sex does yet Turner was unable to win a simple seat on the SB School Board with a white majority electorate.

When Tanton goes Turner will make himself look the fool trying to live up to Tanton's legacy.

Eventually, however, Turner will succumb to his true destiny which is A PIMPLE ON THE ASS OF TIME.

That's what "Patriotic Dream" sez.

So, when is she gonna call GILCHRIST and tell HIM about it?

Turner acts like he's got us scrambling due to the little local ordinances that are popping up here and there. But really, all that is being handled by MALDEF and the ACLU and such, national orgs that are have very widespread support and tons of money.

SOS is celebrating that "Judicial Watch" is now in the Hazelton battle, where they are getting smashed left and right, and where the city is backing down.

But judicial Watch is not the cavalry, it's just "F" troop compared to the ACLU and MALDEF.

Ted Hayes has been for sale for many, many years now. But how many domes did Tanton buy? How much $ did Tanton give to fund Justiceville?

Tanton has funded and created “Choose Black America”, an effort to shine a national spotlight on Black anti-migrants, funding trips for Blacks like Coe allies Ted Hayes and James Spencer to media hotspots like Chicago, where the Arellano case has received international media attention. Last May, Tanton funded the expenses of ten Black Minutemen supporters to Washington D.C. for the founding of “Choose Black America,” and a press conference he’d arranged for them at the National Press Club. -Nazi Hunter

Notice the name: "Choose BLACK America."

Yet if we make a "Choose Brown America" we are racists.

Nevertheless, Choose Black America is really Choose WHITE America with soul.

Getting back to Joe Turner, S.O.S. had become a liability for him. Too many yahoos on that site expose make him look bad. The S.O.S. website probably cost Turner the SB School Board election. The return on that website and organization diminished quickly. So turner abandoned ship.

I fear that this is an attempt of "mainstream" far-right organizations to consolidate control over the "brownshirt" elements of the anti-immigrant movement. They might be fighting each other now, but they may unify under the assertive leadership of these outside "puppeteers." These people have money and influence, and can pay the low-level leaders to do their bidding.

i see your point, but you give these guys to much credit. one of the reasons that sos created the "goons" and "dissenter's paradise" is because they NEED theml. if the "dissneter's" did not post on their site, the members of sos would turn on each other at the drop of a hat. these people are very angry about something, and participating in sos/minuteman events allows them an avenue to vent some steam. look what has happened to them all lately. simcox vs. gilchrist vs. coe vs. stewart vs. "sandinator" vs. "old preach" vs.... its only a matter of time before some minon in sos leaves because they were not chosen the next "turner." so yes, SOME of these guys are very dangerous (in terms of national policy and contacts) but the majority can stick together about as well as a bunch of oily leggos. sorry, couldn't think of a better analogy.

If you're watching this bouncing ball, keep an eye on Simcox.

He seems to be recovering from the revelations that his org is a Repub PAC, and he's been after Gilchrist since their breakup in 2005. He's been hooked up with the nazis since the beginning and would be a good entree for them to take over. And he's still hooked up with Keyes (even though Keyes' accounting firm left him hanging when the call went out for a financial report from Simcox's Minuteman Civil Defense Corps).

If Courtney et al. are aligning with Simcox, this could be a consolidation move that leaves Tanton still behind the scenes.

But there might be more trash blowing in the wind about Simcox, too.

Just to keep everyone up to date, Barbara Coe has quit Gilchrist's board of directors because her membership is outraged that she dumped Gilchrist. Or maybe it's because Gilchrist is accusing the board of stealing $4000.

That's the same amount spent on California State Assembly candidate's Tan Nguyen's Spanish-language mailing (on California Coalition for Immigration Reform letterhead) that warned immigrants not to vote and threatened them with prison or deportation. The mailing prompted the state Attorney General's office to raid Nguyen's office and confiscate his computers.

Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, has been given the boot by the MMP board of directors, who charge the former CPA with embezzling some $70,000.00 from the organization. He’s now been replaced – amid a flurry of charges and counter charges - by Marvin Stewart, an African American minister who’s rabidly homophobic and anti-Muslim.

Something wrong with this picture? You bet. Can’t imagine Minutemen following a Black leader? Well, apparently it depends of the Black leader.

The Minutemen and their spin off organizations like Save Our State, in Southern California, insist that they can’t be called racist because, after all, they boast of a tiny cadre of Black members and hangers on – at least in California. A quick glance at the record should be enough to tell us just what kind of Blacks the Minutemen find acceptable.

Most prominent of the Black Minutemen has been Alan Keyes, who ran the financial end of things for Chris Simcox’ Minuteman Civil Defense Corp, and for Gilchrist’s bid for a seat in the US Congress. Both Simcox and Gilchrist have been separately accused of misuse of Minuteman funds, and Keyes has apparently abandoned ship – Gilchrist’s ship, at least.

But Keyes isn’t your average Black politician. While it’s all – but immoral and extremely difficult to peg any African American with anti-Black and anti Brown racism, Keyes is a prime candidate for the tag. Keyes’ involvement in Gilchrist’s campaign should be enough of a tip. Gilchrist ran for Congress on the American Independent Party ticket- the party founded by arch-segregationist George Wallace. Keyes backed him every step of the way.

Keyes was Ronald Regan’s Special Assistant for National Security Affairs, and reportedly worked on covert funding for the Nicaraguan contras. In other words, his preparation as a fund raiser and organizer on behalf of US trained and sponsored death squads made him a particularly well-suited candidate to organize the funds of the nascent, wanna-be death squads who call themselves Minutemen. He had plenty of practice pulling together monies aimed at the murder of innocent brown skinned people in Latin America.

The white vigilante organizations grouped under various Minutemen banners publicly disavow racism and violence, understanding correctly that to openly embrace them would be to acknowledge their roots as a spin off of the Militia/ “Patriot” movement that brought the world Ruby Ridge and the terrorist bombing in Oklahoma City, and as spin off of the Klan Border Patrol initiated by Klan leader and notorious Nazi David Duke. But what’s communicated in private is a different matter. Check out this email from prominent Minutewoman Laine Lawless to her allies in the “white nationalist” / Nazi movement, urging Klan and Night Rider style tactics. Her suggestions include the following:

• "Steal the money from any illegal walking into a bank or check cashing place."

• "Make every illegal alien feel the heat of being a person without status. ... I hear the rednecks in the South are beating up illegals as the textile mills have closed. Use your imagination."

• "Discourage Spanish-speaking children from going to school. Be creative."

• "Create an anonymous propaganda campaign warning that any further illegal immigrants will be shot, maimed or seriously messed-up upon crossing the border. This should be fairly easy to do, considering the hysteria of the Spanish language press, and how they view the Minutemen as ‘racists & vigilantes.’"


There are other reasons Keyes fit the Minutemen bill. While serving as a shield against charges of Minuteman racism, Keyes credentials included not only the death squad murders of Nicaraguan peasants an other unarmed civilians, but, amazingly, for a Black man, the defense of the Apartheid regime in South Africa.


Keyes is a long time member of the pro- Apartheid South Africa Lobby in the United States. He fought openly against the movement for sanctions against the Apartheid regime, opposes Reparations, and was wildly popular among hard Right groups in the US for such stands. He has served on the board of the Council for National Policy with such notables as arch racists Trent Lott and Jesse Helms, and the likes of Gen. John Singlaub (a founding member of the CIA who organized death squads in Viet Nam as part of Operation Phoenix, and who was involved in the Iran-Contra scandal.

Other CNP board members include figures like Rev. R. J. Rushdoony and Dr. Gary North, prime movers in the Christian fascist Dominionist cult, and right wing extremist Phyllis Schlafly. Keyes himself is a member of a cult of extreme Right-wing Catholic self – flagellators called Opus Dei (“The Work of God”), which supported Adolph Hitler and his Nazi regime, along with Spanish Fascist Francisco Franco and Chile’s fascist dictator, Augusto Pinochet. Pope Benedict is also a member of Opus Dei, and a former member of the Hitler Youth. According to a former Opus Dei priest, the cult’s founder declared that Hitler had been "badly treated" by the world and he further declared that "Hitler couldn't have been such a bad person. He couldn't have killed six million [Jews]. It couldn't have been more than four million.”

For the Minutemen, it would seem, Blacks are just fine, as long as they are willing to oppress, enslave and murder other peoples of color in the name of white racist Empire, and to co-exist with, and act on behalf of, death squads and Nazis.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Terry Anderson is on stage in Vegas, telling a fable about a donkey on a bridge.

"Everybody's doing everything they can to coax [the donkey] with sugar and carrots, but they can't get him to move. Some guy walks up and says, 'You've got to use kindness.' The other guy says, 'Show me.' So the [first] guy picks up a two-by-four and busts the donkey in the head. The donkey gets up and walks off. The other guy says, 'But you said use kindness.' The guy says, 'Yeah, but you got to get his attention.'"

In Anderson's mind, the bridge is America, and the donkey represents the millions of Mexicans who need to be whacked in the head, not offered the sugar and carrots of guest worker programs and earned paths to citizenship. Fuming about congressmen who support such programs, he says, "Not one of those people has ever had his wife walk by a construction site and get heckled by some Mexican grabbing his crotch, and usually a small crotch."

It's the second day of the second annual "Unite to Fight" conference, a Memorial Day weekend gathering of anti-immigration hard-liners. Earlier, as speaker after speaker railed off venomous rants about Mexican invaders, Reconquista and Aztlan (conspiracy theories about alleged Mexican plans to reconquer the southwestern United States), Anderson sat with his wife in the shadows of the back row of the Cashman Center auditorium. But now that it's his turn on the mic, the roly-poly, bow-tied orator is lighting up his audience of 200 or so mostly middle-aged and elderly white guys, who clap harder, stand longer, and whistle louder for Anderson than for anyone else on the agenda. This might have something to do with the fact that Anderson is one of only a tiny handful of African-Americans at this predominately white conference -- and the only black speaker. The implied message of his presence and enthusiastic reception is crystal clear: "How can we be racist? Our beloved keynote speaker is black."

In recent months, Anderson and a smattering of other African-American anti-immigration activists, most notably longtime Los Angeles homeless activist Ted Hayes (see interviews with both men), have become the front men for a campaign orchestrated and funded by white anti-immigration leaders. The campaign aims to convert black Americans to their cause, and simultaneously to provide groups like the Minuteman Project and the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) with cover against accusations of racism.

Beyond putting a black face in the spotlight as often as possible at rallies and conventions like Unite to Fight, this effort also consists of the new FAIR front group, Choose Black America -- a supposedly nationwide coalition of black business and community leaders spreading the message that "mass illegal immigration has been the single greatest impediment to black advancement in this country over the past 25 years."

"The danger here is [black activists] being co-opted by a group who may not have the African-American community's best interests in mind," says Shayla Nunnally, a black professor at the University of Connecticut and co-author of a Duke University study on Latino immigrants' attitudes towards blacks. "It goes back to minorities fighting minorities, while fighting the overall oppression isn't being addressed."

Strange Bedfellows
Terry Anderson comes off like a true believer in the old Arab proverb, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" -- even if that friend looks a lot like a white supremacist.

In Vegas, Anderson shares the lectern with Rick Oltman, who in addition to being the western states regional coordinator for FAIR has spoken at several major events put on by the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC) and who was described by the CCC as a member in 1998. During his speech, Oltman drops the name of Brenda Walker, a regular contributor to the racist website VDARE.com who, among other things, has described Hmong refugees living in the United States as "drug-addicted polygamists."

Oltman's comments are tame in comparison to Anderson's diatribe, a rant in which he rages about public schools being "infected with illegal alien children, who are dumb and stupid in two languages." Anderson also presides over a posthumous tribute to Madeleine Cosman, an attorney who was a popular figure on the immigrant-bashing lecture circuit until her death last March. At the Las Vegas summit, Anderson praises Cosman's legacy, then introduces a screening of the pseudo-documentary "Illegal Aliens & America's Medicine," which features Cosman's alarmist claim that Mexican immigrants are spreading dengue fever, Kawasaki disease, and various sexually transmitted diseases, especially to their many alleged rape victims. Speaking from beyond the grave, Cosman says, "Most of these bastards molest girls under 12, though some specialize in boys, and some in nuns."

Four months before she died, Cosman was a guest on the "The Terry Anderson Show," the weekly Sunday night radio pulpit from which Anderson preaches the need for black Americans to get angry about illegal immigration, to listen to white "experts" like Cosman, and to join forces with groups like the Minuteman Project and FAIR. Essentially, Anderson wants to shut down the border while tearing down the walls between urban, working-class blacks and far-right whites, at least until the country is cleansed of illegal immigrants, who both he and Ted Hayes argue present a far greater threat to blacks in America than racist whites.

The way Anderson tells it, black Americans simply do not have a choice: "If we don't fix this and put other problems to the side, then, man, we gone," he says in an interview with the Intelligence Report.

While Anderson's stated aim is to amass a black following, he wasn't known to most blacks outside California, where he lives in South Central Los Angeles, until he affiliated with the white leaders of the Minuteman Project. By his own description, most of his radio show's nationwide listening audience is white. He reaches more blacks with his frequent appearances on "Urban Policy Roundtable," a weekly TV program in California hosted by African-American columnist Earl Ofari Hutchinson, than he does with his own show.

"I'm the only one that's really given Terry a platform to come in and talk about these issues with a black audience," says Hutchinson. "So, he can't go anywhere else, except with white folks."

It's white folks who have paraded Anderson all over the country in the past year, financing his appearances at the Unite to Fight convention in Las Vegas, a Minuteman Project summit in Arlington Heights, Ill., and a Capitol Hill rally where Anderson warmed up the crowd for anti-immigration hard-liner and U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), among other events. When officials at white-dominated FAIR needed black figureheads for their front group, they knew Anderson was their man. He signed on as a founding member of Choose Black America (CBA), along with 10 other activists, academics, clergymen, and entrepreneurs.

The formation of CBA was announced at a FAIR-sponsored press conference last May at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. To date, that press conference is the only verifiable action CBA has taken. It otherwise seems to exist only as a website and a public relations gambit.
"The African Americans they brought there were just to put a black face on their position," says Hutchinson, who, unlike Anderson and Hayes, declined an offer to join CBA. "These blacks had no other further use. [FAIR] got what they wanted, so why would they have meetings [of the CBA]? Why would they create an organization? These individuals are so loosely affiliated, what kind of organization are you going to form out of that?"

FAIR Trade
CBA is billed as a "coalition of business, academic and community leaders" who believe that "Blacks, in particular, have lost economic opportunities, seen their kids' schools flooded with non-English speaking students, and felt the socio-economic damage of illegal immigration more acutely than any other group." It's portrayed as a grassroots organization, but it hardly sprang from the community. Tiny type at the bottom of CBA's home page reads, "A project of FAIR."

That is not a new tactic for the best-known anti-immigration organization in the United States. Other, similar front groups set up by FAIR include the Coalition for the Future of the American Worker, which claims to be a coalition of blue-collar groups, and You Don't Speak for Me ("American Latino Voices Speaking Out Against Illegal Immigration"), the Hispanic version of CBA.

Though he's critical of CBA, Earl Ofari Hutchinson is no open-borders advocate. Several times this year in his Pasadena Weekly column, Hutchinson has written about black frustration with illegal immigration and has even warned of the potential dangers Latino immigration presents to black Americans. "The leap in Latino voting strength and the likely prospect that Democrats and Republicans can bag even more voters from the rising number of legal and illegal immigrants comes at a bad time for black politicians," Hutchinson wrote last April, about a month before the CBA press conference.

Hutchinson tells the Intelligence Report that not long after that column came out, FAIR offered to fly him to D.C. and put him up in a nice hotel if he would join their press conference, pose for a photo, and agree to be identified as a founding member of CBA. Hutchinson said no. "They assumed that essentially I was on their team, and I would be an effective advocate for their point of view as an African-American spokesperson," Hutchinson says. He rejected the offer, he says, because of FAIR's ties to white supremacist groups and because he didn't want to be associated with the anti-multiculturalism attitudes of FAIR founder John Tanton, who wrote of non-white immigration in 1986: "Will the present majority peaceably hand over its political power to a group that is simply more fertile? ... As Whites see their power and control over their lives declining, will they simply go quietly into the night? Or will there be an explosion?"

Terry Anderson has no such qualms about Tanton. In fact, records show that Anderson has received upwards of $10,000 from Tanton's U.S. Inc. to fund his radio show. "I know John Tanton. I've met him on many occasions," Anderson tells the Intelligence Report. "What somebody does in front of you and what they do behind you is always going to be two different things. I just know that he has founded an organization that is at the forefront of this problem and without them we would be a lot worse off. ... If Tanton is a racist and he says illegal immigration is wrong for this country, does that make his statement wrong? No."

Coalition of the Willing
Five of the 11 founding members of CBA were interviewed for this article. All but one said they had no idea who the other individuals in their "coalition" were before they arrived in D.C. for the press conference. James Clingman, a Cincinnati columnist and businessman, said that if he had known, he would have never shown up. "Choose Black America was just the banner under which we had a press conference," says Clingman, who writes on economics. "There are people involved [in CBA] who I am just diametrically opposed to, like [far-right Christian evangelical] Jesse Lee Peterson and those other neo-conservative, black so-called leaders."

Clingman says that with the exception of his personal friend, Claud Anderson, he has had no contact with any of the other CBA founders or with FAIR since the press conference. According to the rest of the CBA founders interviewed, there have been no meetings, no phone calls, and no other organizational advances since May.

The chairperson of CBA is identified in press materials as Frank Morris — the same longtime FAIR member who in 2004 ran for the board of directors of the Sierra Club as part of a well-organized but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to convert the environmental powerhouse into an anti-immigration organization. Morris did not return three phone calls seeking comment for this story.

A primary FAIR aim in creating the CBA has been to convince black Americans that Latino immigrants will take their jobs or significantly depress their wages, despite a preponderance of evidence to the contrary. Even a study by Harvard economist George Borjas, widely considered an ally by anti-immigration forces, only showed a wage-lowering effect (and a modest one at that) on the least skilled and poorest educated workers, and many other scholars dispute that finding. A new study by the nonpartisan Pew Hispanic Center found "no apparent relationship between the growth of foreign workers with less education and the employment outcome of native workers with the same low level of education."

Such research doesn't sway the opinion of CBA founding member Claud Anderson. The president of PowerNomics, an inner-city development corporation, concedes that he went to the press conference knowing nothing about FAIR, but he says he came away a fervent FAIR supporter. The group, he says, is pushing the right agenda. "You got silly naïve black leadership who don't understand that those people [Latino immigrants] are not coming here to get along with black folks. They are coming here to compete with black folks."

Asked what the government should do about the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants now living in the U.S., Claud Anderson told the Intelligence Report: "Put their asses on the boat and send them back."

'You're Not Black'
FAIR isn't the only organization trying to put a black face on the anti-immigration movement. The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (see Ruckus on the Right), an offshoot of the original "citizens border patrol" Minuteman Project, is now identified as "a project of the Declaration Alliance," a right-wing consortium led by African-American ultraconservative Alan Keyes, best known for his many failed runs on the Republican ticket for U.S. Senate and president. Keyes now speaks at Minuteman Civil Defense Corps events wearing a black cowboy hat.

Also, when Minuteman Project co-founder Jim Gilchrist kicked off his group's cross-country caravan to Washington, D.C., last May 3, he picked Leimert Park, a mostly black Los Angeles neighborhood, as the caravan's rallying point. Gilchrist brought out the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, African-American head of the right-wing, Christian fundamentalist Brotherhood Organization for a New Destiny, along with Ted Hayes, the black homeless advocate, to back him up.

The rally was supposed to be an invitation to Minuteman discipleship, but it didn't end in benediction. Faced by dozens of African-Americans calling Gilchrist a racist and labeling his black associates as "Sambos," Gilchrist dropped the friendly face. "Minutemen, stand your ground," he barked. Then, referring to a man leading chants against his followers, Gilchrist added, "If it's war he wants, then let it begin here," according to the Los Angeles Times.

"We confronted them and chased them out of our community with that racist nonsense," says Najee Ali, president of the Islamic H.O.P.E. civil rights organization in Los Angeles. "We wanted to let them know that they are not welcome in our community and we were offended they chose that as their departure point."

Ali's May confrontation with the Minutemen was neither his first nor his last. Throughout the summer Ali hosted a number of forums on black and Latino community relationships. They were sponsored in part by the Latino and African American Leadership Alliance, which lists as co-chairs Ali, the Rev. Al Sharpton and Christine Chavez, granddaughter of union activist César Chavez. Minutemen, both black and white, showed up to heckle panel members -- including California state assemblymen and Los Angeles City Council members -- and to intimidate the audience.

"At first I didn't get why they were there," says Anike Tourse, a panelist at one of Ali's forums representing the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles. "The panel wasn't about immigration, it was about relationships between blacks and Latinos. But they made sure it [immigration] came up."

During her presentation, Tourse said Minutemen sat in the front rows making distracting noises and "a big scene."

One of the black Minutemen, adds panelist Xiomara Corpeno, "went up at Ali and said, "You sold out your people. You don't represent black people. You're not black."

Hard evidence shows it is the black Minutemen, however, who don't represent mainstream black thought on the topic of immigration. Several major polls show that most African Americans favor the U.S. Senate's Kennedy-McCain bill, which would allow many undocumented workers to stay in America and eventually earn citizenship. Most mainstream civil rights groups, including the NAACP and the Urban League, have come out in support of Latino immigrants. Historically black colleges and universities have aggressively begun recruiting Latinos, who have an 86% high school graduation rate, according to a recent Pew Hispanic Center study.

Sheila Jackson Lee, an African-American congresswoman from Texas, has called the immigrant rights movement "the civil rights issue of our time."

But for Ted Hayes, it's not that. It's "the greatest threat to U.S. black citizens since slavery."

Pawns in Their Game
Tall and gangly, Hayes dresses in robes and wears a mane of dreadlocks underneath an African kufi. Around his neck hangs a Black Hebrew Israelite pentagram. Hayes was a black-power advocate in the early 1980s, before he became an activist for the homeless, and you won't hear him endorsing white supremacist websites. But he considers himself a Minuteman, and has named his own anti-immigration spinoff group the Crispus Attucks Brigade, after a black man who was first person killed in the Boston Massacre carried out by colonial Britain.

And that led to his showing up at a recent rally and marching side-by-side with a woman named Barbara Coe, founder and leader of the California Coalition for Immigration Reform. Coe, Hayes enthuses, is "a great lady."

Coe is also a self-described member and repeat guest speaker of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC), a white supremacist group that has described blacks as "a retrograde species of humanity" and once compared pop singer Michael Jackson to a chimpanzee.

"That just shows Ted's ignorance," says Najee Ali, adding that Hayes has "no constituency" in the black community. "He aligned himself to be used as a pawn."

Adds Hutchinson: "Ted and Terry -- other than immigration, they don't have any following. They have none. They are considered, out here in Los Angeles, a joke."

But in the world of the national anti-immigration movement, Anderson and Hayes are major players. The vitriol they spit out about Mexicans has the same incendiary tone as the rhetoric that some black nationalists and Nation of Islam leaders have in the past directed at whites. Now, black activists like Anderson and Hayes are using that same provocative, indicting tone to pick on someone their own size: Latinos, who according to the last census have just edged out blacks as the largest minority in the United States. They say it's Hispanics who are now oppressing black communities -- by depressing wages, taking jobs and killing blacks in the streets, schools and prisons. Explains Terry Anderson, "The 'white man' we're fighting is the Mexicans."

On stage in Vegas, Anderson pardons the entire white race on behalf of the four other blacks in the audience. "White folks weren't always fair to my people. But we forgive and forget." He then calls Latinos "the most racist people I have ever seen in my life," and goes on to mock the idea that "Mexicans do jobs Americans won't do," reeling off a litany of blue-collar jobs he would gladly do: drywalling, roofing, washing cars. "I will even pick cotton," he says. Then he pauses a beat, as if realizing what he's just said. "Nah, I ain't pickin no cotton!"

The audience laughs in approval of Anderson's jolly oratory. He ends with the popular call-and-response catchphrase, delivered in the dialect of South Central Los Angeles, that marks his radio show: "If you ain't mad..."

The audience, well-schooled in following this black man, shouts back as one: "Then you ain't payin' attention!"
Anderson exits the stage to a standing, cheering ovation and makes his way up the aisle, giving high fives as he goes. He spots his wife, still sitting in the dark in the far back row, and resumes his place in the shadows.

It appears to me that Tanton has found his successor in Joe Turner.

Simcox (or anyone else for that matter) can run the MMP but he will have to do it knowing doggone well that if the founder, Gilchrist, can be ousted then so can they. That limits him and the MMP somewhat.

S.O.S is moot regardless of who runs them. They can offer bodies but not much more. No one there is that bright, period.

The black brigades are basically dupes (just like the Latino MM). Their sole purpose is to be props for the white nativists to dispel any charges of racism. But it doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to figure out that racism is the lowest common denominator that the blacks, whites and Latinos share.

Like S.O.S., however, the blacks add bodies to the nativists side during protests but I do not see them as a major threat per se.

Of course, all of them combined add up to more than the individual parts. Which is bad for us.

In my opinion, the AZ - MX border needs the D.O.J and the F.B.I. immediately and the ICE raids need to stop. Mid to long term the focus should be Tanton. At least this is how I will be concentrating my efforts this year.

These boys might learn a lesson from Bass Masters. In the end only one man owned the business and he sold it. All of the dues paying members were not voting members and had no right to assume they had a vote....It was a good business plan that worked well. Gilchrist may have the only vote that counts.I....n early February, papers were filed with the state of Delaware showing that Stewart was the organization's new president and Courtney was the new treasurer.....An official with the Delaware secretary of state's office said no one but Gilchrist could legally make those changes.

I read the article on this in today's L.A. Times, which says the same thing. Technically the Minuteman Project is still Gilchrist's. There's just someone else running the cash register right now.

I am not leaving Save Our State high and dry. I am still around and will stay around.

I think the topic is worthy of debate, but as others have said, this is the wrong thread for such a topic.

I will only say this, if everyone were to absolutely refuse to stand with others because they held a different viewpoint on some other subject, we would have rallies of ONE person.

Within reason and as long as it isn't detracting from our overall goal, I really dont care what you believe in. I dont care if you are atheist, a tree hugger concerned about environmental impacts of illegal immigration, someone who favors abortion, someone who opposes homosexual marriage, someone who supports the legalization of drugs, someone who thinks that unions are destroying this country, etc.

When I am at a Save Our State event or illegal immigration event for that matter...all I care about is are you with me on that issue.

Hell...some folks think that there should be a moratorium on legal immigration or that we should take a humanitarian approach to those families with anchor babies, etc. We all have varying opinions and perceptions.

If we let little differences compel us to separate ourselves, then we are doomed.

More Trouble with Minuteman Finances: Keyes Group Overseeing Vigilantes Suspended

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps has been under scrutiny from The Washington Times and others recently for its finances – for example, the largest portion of its 2005 budget went to unspecified “professional services.” Times reporter Jerry Seper has written in the past about the close association of the Minutemen with a variety of consulting groups associated with Alan Keyes, who is also the head of the Declaration Alliance. The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps bills itself as “a project of” the Declaration Alliance, and MCDC president Chris Simcox has defended the ties as adding credibility to his group.
Now Seper reports in The Times that the Declaration Alliance and its associated Declaration Foundation are having their own credibility problems:
The Declaration Foundation … was fined $6,500 in August and prohibited by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Charitable Organizations from soliciting donations until it becomes "properly registered." The Aug. 18 "agreement and order," signed by Declaration Foundation Executive Director Mary Parker Lewis, a top Minuteman adviser, acknowledged that the charity made false statements in seeking to solicit donations, failed to properly administer money it had collected, and withheld documents sought as part of an "investigative subpoena."
According to the bureau, the Declaration Foundation failed over a four-year period to submit audited financial statements, gave false information when it said it did not share revenue with other nonprofit or tax-exempt groups, and misstated the truth when it said none of its officers or employees was tied to any vendor providing services or goods.
The bureau said the Declaration Foundation improperly shared revenue with the Declaration Alliance, another tax-exempt charity founded by Mr. Keyes, which also has been active in overseeing the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC).
As more questions are raised about the financial management of the border vigilante group, it seemed telling that yesterday the Minutemen announced the creation of a new project – Minuteman attorneys:
[United States Justice Foundation] and MCDC have set up a joint project called the Minuteman Protection Program (MPP) to provide legal assistance to Minuteman members and insist on the enforcement of state, local, and federal laws relating to the illegal immigration issue.
"If you are an attorney, or if you know an attorney, wishing to help in these issues, please contact, or have them contact, us," the e-mail appeal says.

Minuteman Finances Look Even Shadier Than Before

When they appeared, fully armed, on the national scene, the self-appointed border vigilantes known as Minutemen had no greater ally in the news media than the right-wing Washington Times newspaper. Today, with media attention shifted elsewhere and a new Congress less friendly to the anti-immigrant fringe, the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps probably wishes the paper would just leave it alone.
Back in July, Times reporter Jerry Seper – who had spent many months writing glowing articles about the anti-immigrant group – wrote an article suggesting financial mismanagement by the organization’s leadership:
Many of the group's most active members say they have no idea how much money has been collected as part of its effort to stop illegal entry -- primarily along the U.S.-Mexico border, what it has been spent on or why it has been funneled through a Virginia-based charity headed by conservative Alan Keyes. Several of the group's top lieutenants have either quit or are threatening to do so, saying requests to Minuteman President Chris Simcox for a financial accounting have been ignored. …
Critics said vast sums of money are being collected to build what has been described as an Israeli-style fence to keep out illegal aliens, but all that has been constructed is three miles of a five-strand barb-wired range fence on 2-inch metal poles. One former Minuteman volunteer said the fence "wouldn't stop a tricycle."
Simcox promised an audit and lashed back at “those who have tried to destroy this organization,” who he said were racists who had been purged from the group.
Seper followed-up with another article in August, finding the trail of donations still a mystery, and in October, Seper noted that much of the money raised for campaigns on behalf of congressional candidates by the Minuteman PAC was going to private companies associated with Alan Keyes. Simcox reacted angrily, telling Seper, “You obviously need to learn more about how PACs work and the FEC requirements. Many of your questions don't make sense and show your lack of understanding," he said. "Thanks for the heads up on what will no doubt be your next hit piece on the MCDC movement. Who put you up to this, Karl Rove and Bush?”
Today, Seper examines the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps’ newly-filed IRS form for 2005, and finds that not only did the group raise only $418,000 – far less than the $1.6 million it claimed – but it did not spend the $196,000 it claimed it did on outfitting its volunteers during its “border vigils”:
The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, under fire for a lack of financial accountability, spent nearly $450,000 last year for volunteers to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border -- about $31,000 more than it collected in donations and registration fees -- according to a report released yesterday.
The organization's first Internal Revenue Service Form 990 filing as a 501(c)4 tax-exempt charitable trust showed nearly $285,000 in MCDC contributions, or roughly 63 percent, were used to pay for program management and operating expenses, such as travel expenditures, salaries, educational materials and office expenses. Another $145,000, about 32 percent, went for MCDC's fundraising programs.
According to the report, about $20,000, or 5 percent, was spent on field supplies, meals, fuel and background checks for the claimed 8,500 Minuteman volunteers, who last year staffed observation posts at selected points along the Mexican border from California to Texas in April and October.
Simcox, who in October suggested Seper’s inquiries reflected a “lack of understanding” about non-profit accounting, portrayed the disclosure of the 990 form as a one-time, magnanimous gesture representing the group’s transparency:
MCDC officials declined to discuss the Form 990 report with The Washington Times, but Mr. Simcox said in a statement posted on the organization's Web site, "We are releasing our organizational IRS Form 990 and the additional audited financial statements on deadline, as promised, when promised."
He also said that the group's board of directors, which he heads, had decided that "this year and this year only" it would make public the organization's financial statements -- citing what he called "outright malicious lies about the status of MCDC finances."
But as those in the non-profit world know, organizations are required by law to give their 990 filing to anybody who asks. As for the independent audit, the part released on the group’s web site merely reiterates the totals listed in the 990 – including $174,000 in unspecified “professional services.” (The five-page summary helpfully specifies that “The accompanying notes” – not included on the web site – “are an integral part of this financial statement.”) The auditors say their job is to certify that the group’s statements are “free of material misstatement” – but it does not make any claims about material mismanagement.

From time to time it's good to be reminded of just how scummy white supremacists can be.

Gilchrist says there are more wackos in his adversaries than on his side. If that's true, it's probably because his side is so far outnumbered by those who oppose him.

CAB Racial Clause Sentiments 1

Hello fellow American Citizens and defenders of our nation’s sovereignty…Shalom in Jerusalem,

They, the illegal aliens of Mesoamerica (Central America – Mexican, Latino, Hispanic, La Raza, Mecha, etc) have made this issue of border incursion racial. Not American White nor White citizens, but rather so-called Brown Mesoamericans. However, we must and retaliate with counter racism.

The American Black US Citizen Identity
As an American citizen, I recognize the role of US Blacks in this present invasion and illegal colonization of the USA by citizens of foreign countries which is perpetrated by forces who are jealous of and desiring the demise of our young, great nation.

The invasion by these foreign citizens (including those of Asia, Europe, Canada, Australia, even modern Africa), primarily from the United Mexican States and those of Mesoamerica (Central America) adversely affects all American citizens.

However, it is especially dangerous to the Black descendents of West African Americanized slaves and their children who suffered through the long era of legalized racism, the Black Codes…Jim Crow-ism (1877-1964).

The Duty of Black US Citizens
This Illegal “immigration” invasion is the greatest threat to American Black US citizens since chattel slavery; and consequently it is the gravest danger to US security since the Civil War itself.

Therefore, it behooves us Black citizens to aggressively stand up for ourselves and by doing so, we defend the sanctity, dignity, moral fabric and meaning of the United States of America. In other words, the Black experience in the United States is the front line of defense for our beloved American nation. Black citizens are the sentinels of Freedom and the guardians of Liberty for the United States of America. It is our GOD-given reasonable duty! We must comply and obey.

Citizens of any sovereign nations illegally entering into another has nothing to do with race, color or religion, but rather a deed that is purely wrong! No citizen, whether military or civilian of any nation has the right to invade another unless it is a “justified” act of war.

The Hypocrisy of the Proponents of “Illegal Immigration”
Yet, the proponents of illegal “immigration” deem their invasion of the United States is justified because the citizens of America, especially those who are White (Caucasian, Euro-American) are considered by them as racist. Racist for simply saying that entering any sovereign nation illegally is simply wrong, - illegal!

American White US citizens rightly believe that it is equally wrong for Americans to illegally enter the nations of Mesoamerica, Canada, etc. as it is for their citizens to illegally enter the USA.
In fact, Brown Guatemalans who illegally cross the United Mexican States southern border are severely punished for their international crime by Brown Mexicans!




However, somehow, when it comes to White Americans of the United States, it is reasoned that Brown Mexican skin is exempt from the social disease of racism, while people White, are naturally racist, unless, of course, they agree and support the invasion of the USA…as most of the leaders of the Democratic Party and their followers.

Also, the proponents attempt to weaken non-White resistance to their invasion by calling them derogatory names such as: “sell-outs to the White man” or “White man’s niggers”; or “Tio-tacos”, if one’s skin color is Brown – Mexican – Mesoamerican.

US Black Citizens Know How To Weld the “Race Weapon”
The best way for American Black citizens to fight the battles that our White American citizen brethren can’t, is utilize the dreaded “race weapon” in turn against those who would use the “race-card” to justify their illegal behavior. In other words, “flip-the-script”! Reverse it on them.

Remember, while we Blacks did not invent the proverbial “race-card”, we know almost better than anybody else as how to use it.

Though border incursion is not an issue of race, but rather one of illegality, Black activist have no choice but to utilize that ugly “race weapon - card” against the invaders themselves.

Please Work With Us
Often I and the brethren of the CAB have heard our beloved American White brethren bewail the fact the while all US citizens suffer from illegal “immigration”, it is Blacks who receive the point and brunt end of it therefore they who should be on the front line in this war to defend America.

I ask, that as the CAB intensifies its role in defending the USA from the invasion, please be patient when you hear us say, or read certain “racial” remarks/statements from us, discuss the issues of the great PROMISSORY NOTE or Reparations, and even carry out deeds or demonstrations of racial content.

Please know that we are not seeking to hurt our White fellow American citizens or anyone else for that matter, including the invaders.

It is our mission and intent to liberate American Whites from the guilt complex that the “Browns” and other racial “minorities” erroneously have and are using against them to justify illegal “immigration”.

We believe that Blacks peoples have the most unique position of all US citizens to stop and even turn back the invasion of our borders. We ask that you be patient, tolerant, open minded and willing to at least allow us to try our way, before rejecting us.

So when we come to the front lines with our particular tools and specialized “weapons” to fight for our nations sanctity and dignity, work with us. Please do not attempt to make us use the items that have been given to you by our LORD. Nor try to tell us Black US citizens what we can say, or do, or believe, or wear, or go, or who to speak to, or feel, or fight.

Other than being fellow American US citizens with a common cause, for Whites to insist that we be like them, is to confirm the accusations from the “other side” that we Blacks are simply the “White mans’ Nigger”. Surely, American White patriots in this struggle don’t want that!

No doubt, there will be rumors and intended misunderstandings designed to drive a wedge between us, therefore those of you who know Ted Hayes “on the ground” and my works over the years, I ask that you would please be ready to clarify our positions to individual who may misconstrue our American identity and intent.

STEPHENVILLE, Texas -- Two dozen Ku Klux Klan members held a downtown
rally Saturday in this usually quiet dairy community, drawing about 500
bystanders who booed often and held anti-hate signs.

The Traditional Christian Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, who wore black
T-shirts or suits and not the white robes and hoods traditionally
associated with the group, were separated from onlookers by two fences
and dozens of law enforcement officers. Toward the end of the
hour-and-a-half rally, a scuffle broke out in the crowd and three people
were arrested.

The rally came two months after some Tarleton State students held an
off-campus party on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and ate fried chicken,
drank malt liquor from bottles wrapped in brown paper bags and dressed
as Aunt Jemima and other black stereotypes.

The school later chastised them and held a student forum to discuss race
relations and a unity rally. At least one student shown in party photos
posted on the Internet later apologized.

Last month, the San Angelo area-based Klan members distributed
literature around town. During the rally, one Klan member said Tarleton
State was a good school but had a "spineless administration" for how it
handled that situation.

"We felt like those kids were railroaded ... and we felt like that was
handled totally wrong by the college and by the people of Stephenville
also," another member, Roger Davidson, the Klan's grand dragon of Texas,
said after the rally. "We stand behind anybody's freedom of speech."

Faye Landham of Arlington said she was appalled when she heard the Klan
still existed, much less was holding a rally in Texas. She said she went
to downtown Stephenville, about 100 miles southwest of Dallas, to
counter some of the Klan's messages.

"I think they're evil people," said Landham, who is white. "They go
around saying they're Christians and flying the Christian flag. I
certainly don't think Jesus would approve."

After about two dozen people attended a peace rally at a city park
Saturday, many of them went downtown to counter the Klan's rally.

"When I found out about the Klan event, I thought, `Are we in the right
century?' Everyone has freedom of speech, but Stephenville has been
portrayed in a pretty negative light, and I wanted to take a stand to
say that's not who we are," said peace rally co-organizer Jennifer
Gelski, who is white.

The Klan's rally focused mostly on its opposition to illegal immigration
issues. As members spoke, they held American, Confederate and Christian
flags.

"We're not a hate group," Davidson said. "We're here to show our
American pride."

Johnathan Schmidt, 22, who has lived in Stephenville a year, said he is
a skinhead and was glad the Klan rallied to support the Tarleton State
students and to speak out against illegal immigration.

"Our freedom's dying. I took off work to be here," said Schmidt, one of
the three people later arrested after scuffling with some
counter-protesters.

City Administrator Mark Kaiser said there were few problems because of
the city's preparedness, including 160 extra law-enforcement officers
from 21 agencies. He said he did not know how much the extra security
will cost the city of about 17,000 residents.

It was third such rally in the state by a Klan group in less than a
year.

In June, about 25 members of the Empire Knights of Texas rallied in
Midland to protest illegal immigration, drawing a crowd of onlookers and
counter-protesters of about 500. In August, about 20 Empire Knights
members marched in Amarillo, also protesting illegal immigration, while
some 600 to 800 bystanders and counter-protesters gathered nearby.

Here's the judge's ruling on yesterday's hearing with Jim Gilchrist v. Stewart, Courtney, and Coe. Looks to me like the judge is going to throw the whole lot of them into receivership. In the meantime, no one in the Minuteman Project gets to spend any of the money, if Gilchrist can put up $15,000 to stop them.

It gets more fun. Courtney's boyfriend was hauled away for felony contempt of an east coast court (not making child support), obviously set up by Gilchrist's side.

And Gilchrist should dump his lawyer, quick. One of the questions was whether Stewart, et al. were part of a 7-member board of directors (able to fire Gilchrist) or of a 7-member board of advisers (Gilchrist would be sole director). Stewart's crew produced a video of Gilchrist on national TV throwing his arm around Stewart and introducing him as one of the Minuteman Project directors.

Then the question was, how could only three people on a seven-member board do anything? But Gilchrist's lawyer had gotten the three board members in Gilchrist's camp to sign affidavits that they were part of a board of advisers, not directors. So the judge decided that they would be perjuring themselves if they they now said they were part of a board of directors, and therefore the board of directors only consisted on Gilchrist, Stewart, Courtney, and Coe. Yesterday's ruling:

The court, finding serious issues concerning the credibility of the claims of both Jim Gilchrist and the defendants to control the affairs of The Minuteman Project, grants the preliminary only in part. The defendants, their agents, servants, employees, representatives and all persons acting in concert or participating with them are enjoined and restrained during the penedency of this action from engaging in, committing, or performing, directly or indirectly, any of the following acts:

1) Using Minuteman project Inc letterhead and/or envelopes containing the printed signature of Jim Gilchrist, 2) diverting, dissipating, spending or otherwise using donations made to Minuteman project, Inc. The application for preliminary injunction is denied in all other respects. While the court makes the necessary findings of an inadequate legal remedy, irreparable harm, and probability of success, further relief is deemed inappropriate so as t maintain the status quo between the parties pending final adjudication of the merits of the case.

Plaintiffs are ordered to post an undertaking of $15,000 for the preliminary injunction.

The application for the writ of possession is denied.

The court sets an order to show cause hearing for April 25, 2007 at 1:30 pm as to why the courts should not appoint a receiver to control the affairs of The Minuteman Project Inc, during the pendency of this litigation. Counsel for the parties, or if unrepresented, the parties are to personally meet no later than April 10, 2007 to try and stipulate , as to whether a receiver should be appointed, what powers the receiver should be given, who should be appointed the receiver, and what compensation should be paid to the receiver for his or her services.

Plaintiffs are to personally file their response to OCS by April 16, and defendants will file their response by April 19, 2007.

Here's the judge's ruling on yesterday's hearing with Jim Gilchrist v. Stewart, Courtney, and Coe. Looks to me like the judge is going to throw the whole lot of them into receivership. In the meantime, no one in the Minuteman Project gets to spend any of the money, if Gilchrist can put up $15,000 to stop them.

It gets more fun. Courtney's boyfriend was hauled away for felony contempt of an east coast court (not making child support), obviously set up by Gilchrist's side.

And Gilchrist should dump his lawyer, quick. One of the questions was whether Stewart, et al. were part of a 7-member board of directors (able to fire Gilchrist) or of a 7-member board of advisers (Gilchrist would be sole director). Stewart's crew produced a video of Gilchrist on national TV throwing his arm around Stewart and introducing him as one of the Minuteman Project directors.

Then the question was, how could only three people on a seven-member board do anything? But Gilchrist's lawyer had gotten the three board members in Gilchrist's camp to sign affidavits that they were part of a board of advisers, not directors. So the judge decided that they would be perjuring themselves if they they now said they were part of a board of directors, and therefore the board of directors only consisted on Gilchrist, Stewart, Courtney, and Coe. Four people, and a majority of three kicked Gilchrist out.

Minuteman Project Board of Directors Audio Tapes Revealed by Original Minuteman Hero

The Ousted Minuteman Project, Inc. (MMP) founder Jim Gilchrist, has been vicious and relentless in his attacks against his former closest supporters on the MMP Board of Directors, Marvin Stewart, Barbara Coe, Deborah Courtney and Border Captain & Sergeant at Arms Scott Powelson who, were forced to remove Gilchrist from all positions of authority from the Not For Profit corporation.

Jim Gilchrist has stated repeatedly in the press and in the media that he is the "Sole Member of the Board of Directors", and that basically what he has here is a "Sole Proprietorship wrapped in a corporate shell" and that nobody else's vote counts.

However, according to Jim Gilchrist's, Sandy Gilchrist's, Stephen Eichler's J.D., and Tim Bueler's own words, now revealed from the authorized audio recording of the MMP Board of Directors meetings held in January, there was in fact a "Seven Member Board of Directors", with full voting power, where serious issues were discussed, just as Marvin Stewart, Barbara Coe, Deborah Courtney and, Scott Powelson have maintained. In court documents, under penalty of perjury, Sandy Gilchrist, Steve Eichler J.D. and Bueler have stated that they were not members of the Board of Directors of MMP.

On the audio recording, it can be clearly distinguished as to who is speaking. In Jim Gilchrist's own words he says, who the Board of Directors are and, he reminds everyone that the meeting is being recorded.

The audio recording reveals a review and investigation led by Marvin Stewart into the unnecessarily byzantine legal and financial entanglements of the Minuteman Project, Inc. created by Jim Gilchrist, Sandy Gilchrist and Steve Eichler, J.D. and further complicated by Tim Bueler.

Jim Gilchrist has trouble remembering who were the "lessor officers" of the corporation such as Treasurer. Steve Eichler claims to be surprised to find out that he is the Treasurer and not Jim's wife Sandy Gilchrist, as the Board of Directors was led to believe up to that point.

Tommy Hugh Crenshaw J.D., Steve Eichler's Trinity law school close friend and associate, handled the merchant accounts for collecting donations from the Minuteman Project Inc.'s website at www.MinutemanProject.com and deposited many transactions totaling large sums of money into his own personal bank account at Orange Community Bank without the Board of Directors approval or knowledge. The Board of Directors was shocked to discover that Tommy Crenshaw had a "Oral Agreement" with his close friend Steve Eichler that no one else knew about. Even Jim Gilchrist claimed he was unaware of it. Even more surprising was the revelation that Tommy Crenshaw had written himself a check for $9,000 when Steve Eichler had told the other Board Members that both Tommy Crenshaw J.D. and Steve Eichler J.D. has never been paid or taken a dime from the Minuteman Project, not even to cover expenses.

At one point Tim Bueler asks if he can give his Board of Directors vote to Tommy Crenshaw. Marvin Stewart had to remind Tim Bueler that Tommy Crenshaw has never been on the Board of Directors.

The general operating fund account for the Minuteman Project had been open since January of 2006 and internet donations from credit cards of all types were deposited electronically into the account at the Washington Mutual Bank from the beginning. The reconciliation of merchant account credit card authorizations and what was actually deposited into the general operating account just didn't add up.

Deborah Courtney, the Minuteman Project's new Treasurer said, "We kept asking for the accounting, and all we got was stonewalling, feeble excuses and serious misrepresentations".

Jim Gilchrist has also failed to provide to the MMP Board of Directors the MMP bank statements for 2005 in which, Gilchrist raised over $77,000.00, making filing the IRS Form 990 mandatory and publicly widely available. Jim Gilchrist who filed for personal bankruptcy in 1992 and, let his CPA license expire in 1993, has yet to explain how he was making a living for the past 14 years.

Jim Gilchrist has publicly criticized Chris Simcox of Minuteman Civil Defense Corps for financial mismanagement, yet Simcox has made IRS Form 990 widely available on his organizations website.

The Minuteman Project will be back in court this April 25th. The Honorable Judge Randell Wilkinson of The Superior Court, of the State of California, County of Orange, has asked attorneys for Gilchrist and Eichler to explain why he should not put the company into receivership.

Gilchrist and Underlings Distort the Truth and Defame Website

Minuteman President Marvin Stewart today stated that he was extremely disappointed to see a man whose courage on the battlefield left no question as to his level of commitment to America, suddenly go into a public ethical meltdown on radio and TV. Gilchrist has also apparently authorized defamation of the MinutemanProject.com website by Linda Muller, a grassroots webmaster. The public has begun to wonder as to how much money or what he and his cohorts are really trying to hide if they react this viciously.

As the President of The Minuteman Project, Inc., I cannot allow the distortions, accusations, disinformation, and website defamation that Jim Gilchrist and his underlings are conducting to spread in the media and on the internet as questions of their financial improprieties go unanswered, Mr. Stewart stated.

Jim Gilchrist CPA, Stephan Eichler JD, Tim Bueler and Linda Muller are all very much aware that the courts have supported the actions taken by The Minuteman Project Inc., and they also know that the false accusations they are throwing about are patently false, Mr. Stewart said.

Jim and his underlings did not take very seriously the responsibility of reporting to you, the members of MMP. Instead, he makes excuses about being too busy to dot every I or cross every t. Our effort is to clearly show the membership where the money went. We have asked the court to authorize your new leadership to conduct a forensic audit.

We have discovered that the MMP had a Political Action Committee
that apparently no one but Gilchrist and Eichler knew about. And he doesnt mention that under his leadership, the MMP was presented as a non-profit corporation, when in fact no such status was ever applied, Mr. Stewart stated.

We had the opportunity to unite the forces fighting the invasion of illegal aliens, but that chance was squandered by Jim Gilchrist and his underlings. Now, they are trying to destroy the organization, because Jim Gilchrist believes that he is more important than the issue, the movement, or the members that placed their trust in him, said Ms. Deborah Courtney, the MMP Treasurer.

Equally sad is that Tim Bueler, who is also the National Media Spokesperson for Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, a competitor, writes despicable and slanderous lies, playing all sides, as the foursome continue their base attempt at perpetrating a deception upon the men and women that gave their time, effort and money to the Minuteman Project. Tim is clearly unable or unwilling to understand how a non profit works, and how Title 8 of Delaware Law regulates the initially incorporated 501C4 of the Minuteman Project, Mr. Stewart continued.

We believe that together we can recover the strength the Minuteman Project had before Jim Gilchrist surrendered to the siren song of political power, public attention, and life in the fast lane with mega-egos for company. Mr. Gilchrist claims his reputation is damaged, but if that is so, it is his own gross mismanagement, lack of attention to corporate obligations, and misguided belief that he and he alone was the Minuteman Project.

Mr. Gilchrist has even stated that he would destroy the Minuteman Project, rather than have someone else at the helm. That demonstrates a lack of respect and appreciation for the thousands of people that joined him at the border in the beginning. And it shows a lack of understanding that people will not follow a leader that has only his ego in mind, Ms. Courtney concluded.

The MMP has opened the door to the media insofar as our legal circumstance allows, and we are prepared to answer to our membership about bringing the organization back on course to unify the only effective movement that stands in the way of an all out invasion of America by illegal aliens. To accomplish that, the members of the Minuteman Project must know that the leadership is working for them, not exploiting them, Mr. Stewart stated.

The truth is on our side, the facts will prove us right, and with Gods help, we will recover from this difficult time.

THE RIGHT THING TO DO IS NOT THE EASY THING TO DO

The easy thing to do would have been to walk away and not have to listen to the slander and read the libel. The easy thing to do would have been to do nothing, and not have misrepresentations printed about us in the press.

It’s an old political trick to blame the people who ousted you for the very same indiscretions for which you yourself were ousted. Such is with Jim Gilchrist and cohorts.

However, because we ARE the Board of Directors of The Minuteman Project, a 501C4 non profit organization, we have taken our responsibilities seriously, not like Jim Gilchrist, Sandy Gilchrist, Steve Eichler, and Tim Bueler. Delaware Corporation Law, Title 8, specifically states that when incorporated as a 501C4, "THE BOARD OF DIRECTOR'S SHALL MANAGE," and that the BOARD OF DIRECTOR'S is held in trust of the publics' funds, as well as oversight of the publics’ funds and donations.

We are therefore protecting YOU.

Gilchrist's claim is that there was never a Board of Director's. If that is true, he defrauded the public when he initially incorporated as a 501C4 and solicited the publics' donations. However, numerous public documents and emails, our lawsuit against Columbia University, the lawsuit against Compton College, and our Resolution against the City of Long Beach clearly state that we are members of The Minuteman Project Board of Director's. Yet to be released tape recordings also confirm the fact.

Once we discovered there were financial indiscretions, we queried Gilchrist, who produced the corporate checking accounts that confirmed our suspicions of deception. We were never apprised of the contracts, corporate documents, and other relevant details about off shoot bank accounts, websites, radio stations, and corporations that were set up with Minuteman Project funds, clearly for ‘Personal Benefit’, an IRS term when 501C4 funds are misused, until late in the game, forcing us to take action and terminate other Board Members, and Gilchrist himself..

On January 26th, after ousting Tim Bueler for lack of loyalty because he is also the national media spokesman for the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, a competitor, we accepted Stephen Eichler's resignation as corporate treasurer and then terminated him for disloyalty and negligent management. We then had to make the painful decision to take away Gilchrist's responsibilities as President for gross mismanagement, and terminate him from The Minuteman Project, Inc., Board of Director’s. We had already taken away Gilchrist’s check writing abilities in late December.

We offered Jim Gilchrist, the original Minuteman, every chance to do what is right, call for a financial audit, step down quietly from daily activity, and continue his chief responsibility as National Spokesman for Minuteman Project. He could have kept his problems quiet, and repaired them behind the scene.

Imagine our disappointment when Gilchrist filed a fraudulent police report and would not and could not step up to the plate and denounce the oversight and come clean. Instead, he took his negligence and incompetence to the courts and press, perhaps damaging the entire movement himself.

The facts are, as a Board of Director's, we relied upon Jim's representation that he has his Master's in Taxation, and Stephen Eichler's claim to hold his Juris Doctorate from Trinity Law School. Therefore, the State of Delaware allows us to rely upon their specific knowledge, which in the end, will prove to have gotten them both into a lot of trouble. What we did not know, was how just much was being hidden from the Board, and the IRS and United States Postal Service penalties and fines that we would be vulnerable to because of being on the Board of Director’s for MMP.

Once we discovered this gross negligence, we were required to report to the proper authorities, before prosecutorial agencies were contact with MMP. We asked Jim to go forward with us, but he refused, so we had to go ahead, with out Gilchrist and the rest of the Board of Director’s.

It truly would have been easier for Jim to be the only Director, so that he and he alone would have been liable for the taxes on the donations and postage liabilities, but we have taken our responsibilities seriously, ousted the incompetent and deceptive management, and wish to return back to normal with your help and support.

We know this is hard for many of you to understand, given that Jim is still not coming clean or being truthful in the media, but we are confident that in the end we will prevail, even if Jim does manage to bring down the whole movement. He would rather change the rules midstream than play according to the Rule of Law.
