I applaud the demonstrations to mark the 3,000--official--U.S. deaths and am thankful to those that have participated. I've participated in demonstrations of previous milestones.
I think we also need to start emphasizing the over half million Iraqi deaths that have resulted from our imperialistic adventure.
It seems to me like there may be a reluctance to do this because Americans tend to identify more with "our" troops. (This is just my perception.) However, if we keep targeting the LCD, the public will never get smarter. IMO, we need to raise awareness, not cater to naivete, which only perpetuates naivete.
The vigils I am involved with have been emphasizing both American and Iraqi deaths, and we plan to increase emphasis on the latter.
Thanks.
