LAGUNA BEACH, CA, 19 November 2006--Fifty or so counterprotestors joined twenty day laborers at the Laguna Beach Day Labor Center yesterday, and handily shouted down the thirty minutemen protesting the day laborers.

Day laborers organized area young people, Mexica Movement, and ISO members on the west side of Laguna Canyon Road to affirm their right to seek work. Many of the young people were new to the day labor center struggle and enthusiastically vowed to return whenever the minutemen threatened the workers there.

For the fifth or sixth time, minutemen wasted gasoline traveling to protest the center, generally supported by everyone in Laguna Beach from the city council, to wealthy residents, to Orange County anarchists. Passing drivers signalling support of the day laborers easily outnumbered support for the minutemen, at about five to one.

In a lackluster, widely spaced line, the minutemen were evidently down to their diehard membership. At one point, Minuteman Project leader Jim Gilchrist crossed over to the counterprotestor's side at the southern intersection, either to try a one-man invasion through the rugged hills behind the center or to use the natural restroom.

The successes of the migrants' rights movement and recent violent outbursts by minuteman supporters have dampened more cautious anti-immigrant sentiment and splintered the already fractured anti-immigrant groups, leaving a frustrated and violent core. Last weekend, minutemen supporters pulled stun guns and pepper spray in incidents in the City of Commerce and Canoga Park. At least one shopper was knocked to the ground by a minuteman.

Saturday's demonstration was violence-free, thanks in large part to the even-handedness of Laguna Beach police, in stark contrast to police in Maywood and elsewhere. A handful of officers managed to keep the peace with pylons down the middle of the road separating the groups.

Apparently no one taught them it was rude to point. The woman in the middle shouted to the protestors, "Pottie-mouth! Pottie-mouth! Racist pottie-mouth!" Counterprotestors were amused.

Do you have a photo of Debbie Sattler wearing a costume sombrero and I ponch(i think it's called)? I'm still wondering what on Earth compelled her to wear that to the rally in public. If they're really against people being here against immigration laws, regardless or race, culture, or where they come from, why was she wearing something that's stereotypical of a particular culture? As far as I knew, besides the goofy outfit she wore(goofy because of the occasion she chose to wear it in, not because it's a sombrero and poncho), she wasn't race driven or racist. She told me last year that Joe Turner let the Neo Nazis rally with them(prior to when she told me in Sept of 2005) and said other stuff not favorable about SOS. She told me that the Neo Nazis provided SOS one of their large banners(which I think is the situation of when Advocate used to post on the SOS forums and collaborated). She supported me when I was trying to find out why someone affiliated with the Nazis was involved in the Gilchrist campaign for Congress last year. It was she and a few others who discovered, along with me, about the involvement of Stormfront members in the campaign. She and Robin Hvidston(shown wearing red in the photo above) supported me. I persisted the furthest and got threatened with a call the police. I got kicked out of the campaign. And these two, Debbie and Robin, for whatever reason are still obedient and won't talk about this incident. They won't even give a watered down explanation. They seem to pretend it never happened.

I didn't look at every face there, but Vince Estrada was there again. But he always participates in these rallies. As for new faces that aren't caucasian, I didn't notice any.

As usual Gilchrist is calling random people "pedophiles." The lastest victim of this behavior is a dude with a Gandalf looking beard.

Gilchrist's been doing this since way back. It's even mentioned on some CAGE Anarchist website and printed flyers that were distributed at the Sacramento rally last year. I mean he does this often. I wonder why he keeps going back to calling people pedophiles.
