ALL OUT AGAINST SEXIST SHERIFFS! Monday November 6th @10am NO means NO at LACC! Wednesday November 1st I and three other people were campaigning in front of the Vermont side of LACC. Two sheriffs came up to us asking if we had seen a man with a hooded sweater. We say no but ask why. Because he is a rapist they said. The one sheriff ( Detective Spelatz) then told us that “70-80% of rape reports are illegitimate” and that most women who report rape have a “morning after slight”. He also said reports were from women who drank too much and regretted what they did the night before. The sheriff said nothing. Minutes later my friends and I from the group Students for Educational Reform (SER) which we are apart of to marched to the sheriffs department. In the end there were 40 of us. We said we wanted to file a complaint and were stalled. So we sat down in the office. No sooner did we sit down then we spot the Detective Spelatz and the Sergeant Parra. We walked out and I made a complaint along with another witness. I am also a victim of sexual assault. Our demands are: 1. Immediate resignation of detective Spelatz (he handles the current rape case investigation case) 2. An apology by the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department 3. A compulsory training course on rape, sexual harassment and sheriff’s conduct with rape victims. The next day the sheriffs had shown the tape to the administration but did not explain why we came. They had a false impression of what happened and they along with the sheriffs asked US TO APOLOGIZE for “intimidating them”. No way! Monday @ 10am in front of campus Students for Educational Reform is having a protest rally in front of the campus. Senator Boxer, Feinstein and Angelides will be there. We intend to tell them to “do their job!” and fight rapist sympathizers in the Sheriffs department. For more info please contact Julia (310) 404-6729 The email for the President of LACC’s office is maradis@lacitycollege.edu 323-953-4000 ext 2240

After Detective Spelatz made his comment on how rape reporters are women who had a " morning after slight" 40 of us marched to the sheriffs office.

We could not all fit but we all wanted to be present. Now the sheriffs are saying that we " intimidated" them and are pressing charges.

When they first asked us to leave we refused. 10 out of 40 of us sat down. Immediately after we did that, detective Spelatz and Sergeant Parra showed up.

I wish I could have been there. Good work. I'm so tired of these mysoginist American cops. Rape is rape, whether the person is drunk or not. it is so sad the people in charge of protecting us almost always do exactly the opposite thing that they should. American cops are famous for being a joke in the rest of the world.

It bis what it is and it is a STUPID comment ...resignation? lets hope for this individual to be suspended for at least 3 months...he might have a family...while some leftist (I am) might consider themselves fully charged and angered by this comment (which I would be too) we must think of the end result...would having this man resign from his office help with much? These cops MUST be educated and informed on such issues...men are men and women are women...many men will not never sympathize unless there wives or daughters are in this predicament. there needs to be some kind of program to let these cops understand various social issues from race, gender equality, sex, rape, etc,,, A PROGRAM NOT HOOPLA

Detective Spelatz is a detective not some low level trainee. In fact the lead one investigating the rape that happened on LACC and it took them three weeks to alert the campus a rape had been committed!
If you had the misfortune of being raped three months from now would you want to call him to investigate your case. Would you want him investigating your relatives case?
We want him out now! Everyday he is on the job is a day we are less safe.

Could you give some background to the event that sparked this protest? What evidence on either side is there? I don't know anything about this, so I can't make judgments, but this is an area I always use caution. No one would ever want a rapist to get off; they deserve the harshest of actions. Nonetheless, I have known at least one person who was falsely accused, and it didn't come out until right before the end of the trial. So, what’s the background here?
Also, you said the cops were making misogynous comments. What comments was he making? It is okay to label him as a sexist, but you have to give some background there as well. Without this added information, people cannot sound creditable if they want to discuss this or take further action. For example, if I tell someone that I think Detective Spelatz should get fired, and ask why, and my only response is that he is a Misogynist jerk, it isn’t enough. When that person asks, “really, what did he say,” I need something else to say than, “I dunno.”

IF you read the article you can find the info you are asking. I am the one who posted it and now I am a person who witnessed it.
Post script: I am now being banned from LACC ( and all other district schools ) effective November 27th. They say we were "intimidating" you can see the pictures and they say I was part of an unlawful assembly. Anyway, if anyone can help or wants to participate please respond.
