Radio Universidad Under Attack AT THIS MOMENT

by LA-IMC Friday, Nov. 03, 2006 at 8:00 PM

12:00 - Dispatch from an IMC reporter in Oaxaca

OAXACA - This morning, November 2, at approximately 8am, Radio Universidad came under attack by the Federal Police (PFP) as well as an assortment of paramilitaries and municipal police. As of 12:00 the radio is still on the air, though the announcers have already been exposed to the tear gas that surrounds the building.

There is a major mobilization under way. The Federal Government has announced that the operation is only to clear the barricades on the major road that runs alongside City University where the station is located, and that they have no intention of invading the Autonomous campus. The radio announcers are saying that there are PFP in civilian clothes among the paramilitaries and that the operation is designed to appear as though no Federal Police are involved in the invasion.

The Rector of the University has just come on air, from one of the barricades, calling on all students and university colleaguesto come to the defense of the station. The next hours are critical and all efforts of solidarity are urgent.

Earth to Indymedia:

WE ARE BORED SHITLESS WITH THIS STORY.

WE HAVE AN ELECTION IN 5 DAYS. WE ARE NOT VOTING IN OAXACA.

Jesus, get over this story and move on. Disorder in a third world country....what a surprise.

if this bores you, then don't read it. maybe you should stick to porn sites that cater to your intellectual level. btw, those "reality" porn sites are staged.

re: being bored with the story

by hex Friday, Nov. 03, 2006 at 11:11 PM

I'm not bored with it - I've just been ignoring it and blocking the banner too :)

what struck me was how many threads there have been on it though while people all over the world are dying, races all over the world are being oppressed and even other things in this country are happening

it's hard to tell that though from reading the newswire or looking at the front page however -

you'd think the universe revolved around Oaxaca and IMC'istas

just goes to show the mindset too - apparently enough protests, rallies and vigils are going to magicly fix the problem - as usual

Re: the elections and other issues besides this single one

look at all the time & energy being spent - these people get worked up into a frenzy at the idea that they're asses might actually be on the line and want the world to stop while they protest their way to safety

IMC reporters that is (not the Hispanic population in Oaxaca)

doesn't this just serve as a distraction from bigger issues and this one trick pony "solution" from more effective ones like TAX REVOLT and BOYCOTTS ?

left gatekeeping comes to mind..
