Maywood is home to a bustling migrant community and is adjacent to the communities of Southgate, Bell and East Los Angeles. Southeast of downtown Los Angeles, Maywood is a densely populated town of 30,000 residents made up primarily of Latinos and Latino migrants.

Save Our State has never asked it’s members to attend a protest in a community with such a large migrant presence and the facts on the ground are sure to make it an exciting day.

Aside from the marches through downtown Los Angeles and the dual protests in Baldwin Park, all of which were permitted and heavily police protected, the last time Save Our State ventured into territory as unfriendly as Maywood was June 18, 2005 when 25 or so SOS loyalists were confronted by 200 activists, jornaleros and supporters of migrants rights in Alhambra. They had no permit to protest in Alhambra, as no permit is required for a political protest held on a public sidewalk. My guess is that they have no permit this time either.

When no permit is obtained, the local police departments are more likely to allow opposing factions to mingle, as was the case in Alhambra and Glendale. The nature of this protest is already obvious to several loudmouths on the SOS board who have already declined to participate. Who could blame them?

But the authoritarian (top-down) nature of SOS seems to be spiraling out of control as Don Silva, 48, Pacoima, is asking his true-believing rank-and-file to attend their fourth action in as many weeks. With the Redondo Beach rally already scheduled for August 5th, Don Silva can’t seem to stop himself. He obviously likes the attention. I wonder if any members will be suspended from the board for questioning his tactics?

Make no mistake about it; SOS is calling this rally as a direct attack on migrants. The city of Maywood has declared itself a “save-haven” for migrants. The declaration was in direct response to the draconian language in HR 4437.

Their right-wing analysis allows for nothing more than American Nationalism. They pretend to be against globalization but this time they are directly targeting those displaced by globalization. Being against globalization doesn’t mean building walls around countries, it means supporting the rights of working people everywhere as borders are nothing more than tools drawn by the ruling class to support their ends.

No longer can they claim that they are “going after the corporations (Home Depot) – this rally is in the heart of the southern California migrant community – one of the largest migrant communities in the world.

Like the marches in Nazi Germany through poor and minority neighborhoods the idea is to provoke and give the authorities any excuse to attack immigrants. From Garden Grove to Baldwin Park and most recently Hollywood the police always side with the SOS/ MM. Immigrant rights activists need to stop taking the bait. There are better ways to fight this than getting beat up by the police. Organize the day laborers into a union. Work with the Truckers and the hotel workers. Instead of countering their lame pickets we should hold our own picket at the INS office or an army recruitment center.

Benefits

The Governor is encouraging illegal immigration by declaring that illegal immigrants have rights to health care, schooling and so on. There are billions of people in the world that could improve their lives by taking advantage of the benefits the Governor is offering but California cannot prosper if we are forced to take care of everyone that comes here illegally. There should not be any public benefits to people that are here illegally.

Children

The 14th Amendment of the Constitution is used to grant citizenship to babies of illegal immigrants. This should be challenged. One of the amendment's key authors, Michigan Sen. Jacob Howard, explained in 1866 that the citizenship clause, intended to ensure the rights of former slaves, "would not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States..."

Criminals

After arresting someone for a crime, most law enforcement agencies do not question a person's citizen status. This is in violation of Penal Code Section 834b(a) which states "Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (now Immigration and Customs Enforcement) regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws."  State funding for law enforcement agencies that violate this provision should be suspended until they come into compliance with 834b.

Another sign that the Libertarian Party is a fraud. If there's any group that's for open borders for regular people (but not for military invasions) it is libertarians.

I guess this guy is arguing that the illegal immigrants use welfare, but it's been proven that they use less welfare than Americans. If he really wanted to cut welfare, he'd fight to eliminate social services for Americans, particularly poor Americans :-)

They didn't seem to side with SOS when Joe Turner got arrested. I'd rather the police not side with anyone and keep things safe.

As for their Laguna Beach thing last Saturday, I'm not sure where else to put this since there's no article that I know of here about it. They had their evening protest against the arts festival. There are lots of photos on the SOS message board of them supposedly "taking over" the day labor site there. I wasn't there last Saturday. But I can tell you that they didn't shut the center down nor will they. If there were a lot of business happening there, it would have still been there when the photos were taken and the Minutemen/SOS would surely be kept across the road again. By the absense of the crowd of workers and the labor center staff in the photos, those pics were obviously taken later in the day when the day labor business had already been done for that day. Same thing when they did this on a Sunday recently and czernel claimed on the SOS board that it was empty because of them. It would be nice if there were some large counter protesting there, but it's not necessary. It would only build moral I guess, which is what the MM/SOS may be doing. But hardly worth the effort. But that's okay because no matter what they do or how much they do it, they will never shut the Laguna Beach day labor center down. I didn't even bother showing up last Saturday.

And I assume Advocate from Stormfront won't rally with them anymore since I put footage of him in their Irvine rally on youtube.com.

As for the photo of Ray Herrera on crutches from being hit by a vehicle in Lake Forest, well I may transfer footage of him frollicking through the street from a much earlier day there. I hope for his sake that wandering back and forth through the road isn't a habit for him. I can show it if it's requested. I just thought it would be cool because Gilchrist once claimed that I was doing that in Costa Mesa. Well, where's the video? There is none cause I didn't do that. But Ray did. It's on the video. So I wonder, did a driver hit Ray like it was claimed or was it simply an accident?

No surprise that the State and the minutemen are hooked up. Minutemen are run by right-wing extremist nut jobs: Chris Simcox’s border dorks are managed by Alan Keyes ("We shouldn't be putting laws on the books that will extend to non-citizens the privileges of citizenship, because I think you are actually inviting people to violate the law when you're doing that, you're decreasing the respect for the law"). Daily operations are run by Mary Parker Lewis, Keyes’ assistant and Gilchrist’s campaign manager. Connie Hair (who tried to take over the FReepers and succeeded in disemboweling them) is Simcox’s spokesperson. Watch for Keyes’ fingers in Joe-boy’s school board campaign. Keyes doesn’t usually sink to small-town school board elections, but he just might since Gilchrist had to turn over his border action to Joe-boy.

No surprise either that the guns and violence crowd back each other up with guns and violence. The Minutemen brandish guns and knives at day labor centers and shoot down Mexicans on the Mexican side of the border. The police brandish batons and horses, prepared to mow protestors down. Gilchrist speaks against an outspoken opponent in downtown LA and voila! the protestor is arrested. The Minutemen have people arrested for tearing up signs and tossing water on them, for god’s sake! The Minutemen, naturally, applaud police violence against protestors who have committed far less violence against the Minutemen than they have received.

What the Fed doesn’t seem to know is that we expect that. It's predictable, it makes sense, we’ve all seen it before. The pigs are not our friends. And that’s a relief. I’d be doing something terribly wrong if the cops in an emerging police state were on my side.

As far as I can tell, the post above by "nazis for target practice" has merit.

To those who demand "Mexico fix its own problems":

Maybe you haven't noticed: Mexico is on the brink of a major rebellion, maybe a revolution. You probably won't like the results, but you'll get your "fix."

And I'll be watching what all the "go back to MX and fix it" arguers will be saying with either an Obrador gov't or blood in the streets, just outside their front door. You might just start wishing more Mexicans had come to the U.S.

I remember when either Jim Gilchrist or Steve Eichler or both wanted me to mingle with certain people in the audience at events to see what they're saying about them. Basically pretend to be one of them and engage in conversation to see what they're saying. They call me an infiltrator to avoid the fact that they had Stormfront people involved, yet wanted me to do pretty much the same thing.

Displacement of native populations south of the Rio Grande has been going on for a lot longer than globalization has existed. It is instead a function of the corrupt oligarchies in their countries, who have always existed by protecting a status quo of artificial social stratification and socioeconomic inequality which serves their personal wealth and power. They are the bane of their peoples' existence just as everywhere else in the ex-colonial world (which only makes sense, seeing as how they're the descendants of the accomodating, profiteering and aristocratic classes of the colonized peoples, who made their accomodation with the colonizer in return for marginal power).

We in the US can do our part to end this phenomenon by ensuring that any administration attempting to continue the tradition of manifest destiny and negate the advances of indigenous people's movements like the Sandinistas, those in Chiapas and Oaxaca, or Chavez is neutralized in its actions. The endemic corruption and poverty south of the Rio Grande would not exist but for application of US power to sustain local corruptocracies, as we well know, and globalization is just the latest manifestation of this phenomenon.

The problem will not be solved, however, until the people of the hemisphere are able to gain control of their governments, and their societies, and reinstate the notion that government is Of, By and For the people (and that idea applies north of the Rio Grande too, but that's another discussion). Until they are able to neutralize the parasitic vermin who make their nations wastelands in pursuit of gain for tiny rich minorities, suffering will continue, on both sides of the border. To change this, the countries our immigrants come from must become places which they do not feel forced to leave.
