The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Lily Tomlin Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center Presents
HoMosaic 2006
A Queercore / Homohop Festival

L.A.’s First-ever Queer Music Festival

Los Angeles, the time has come. The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Lily Tomlin Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center is presenting the city’s first-ever Queer Music Festival. Featuring an impressive lineup of some of the country’s best LGBT rock, pop and hiphop artists, the two-day extravaganza will take place at the Center’s Renberg Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, August 19 and 20.

“HoMosaic 2006: A Queercore/Homohop Festival” includes four bands each day, as well as a bazaar with vendors and refreshments and a post-performance dance party in the courtyard of the Center’s The Village at Ed Gould Plaza. Each day, the doors open at 3:30 p.m., the concert runs from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., and the dance party will continue until 11:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 each day, or both days for $40.

Saturday will be headlined by the renowned “feisty post-punk feminist”* Jill Sobule, who will be joined on the bill by Oakland hip-hopper JenRO, The Ex-Boyfriends, a pop-punk outfit from San Francisco, and L.A.’s own electropop duo Addicted2Fiction. (* The New Yorker)

Sunday’s headliners are experimental indie-rocker Rachael Cantu and Latino rockers The Tender Box. Opening acts include two of L.A.’s homocore favorites: indie-rockers Shitting Glitter and the rock/experimental band Messengers From the Sexual Frontier (MFTSF).

“The time is ripe for a major community gathering around a new generation’s expression of their queer identity and spirit,” says the Center’s cultural arts production manager, Allison Moon. “The reaction from the bands we’ve invited has been fantastic and we hope to make this an annual happening.”

Net proceeds from all Tomlin Wagner Center events support the wide variety of free and low-cost programs and services at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. The event website is www.myspace.com/homosaic2006

The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center provides a broad array of services for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, welcoming nearly a quarter-million client visits from ethnically diverse youth and adults each year. Through its Jeffrey Goodman Special Care Clinic and on-site pharmacy, the Center offers free and low-cost health, mental health, HIV/AIDS medical care and HIV/STD testing and prevention. The Center also offers legal, social, cultural, and educational services, with unique programs for seniors and youth, including a 24-bed transitional living program for homeless youth. Information about the Gay & Lesbian Center is available on the Web at www.laGayCenter.org.
