Che Guevera gave up his life of privelage risking, and eventually giving his life so that people who were not born into privelage as he was could have the opportunity for a decent life. Cezar Chavez worked from the ground up to organize those like himself who were not born into a privelaged existance. Both worked their lives to help empower the disempowered. Don't let the comercialization of his image cloud the compassion, dedication and sacrifice that Che had to work for those less fortunate than he.

"people who were not born into privelage as he was could have the opportunity for a decent life" What decent life in Cuba, the country is ruled by a heartless dictator who for 47+ years has forbidden free elections and basic human rights for cubanos.

It's interesting, that site about Cuba.
The contrast between the rich and poor there isn't that much different than the contrast between Bel Air and Tijuana, or some parts of the South. I guess Cuba wants to court investment from people who are used to accomodations in cities like Bel Air.
The issue is that capital isn't dispersed in ways to improve the buildings. Those wrecked looking buildings could be upgraded to a typical rural American slum condition for a $2,000 each. (Of course, they could cut back their school and hospital funding, and subsidize buildings and cars. Then they'd be spending money more like Americans do.)

The thing that always gets me is that the anti-Castro people always give examples of poverty and degradation suffered by the people of Cuba but the examples are no worse than the examples that could be given of the conditions under which people in neighboring countries live.
Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica are all countries with "open markets" and the people still live in poverty. Not only that but those countries are not subject to the embargo. Haiti trades with the United States a lot. They actually export food to the United States even though they are the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere!

We can discuss the problems with Cuba and why they exist and its comparison to neighboring countries on a site dedicated to that- let us not become distracted by the brutality that went down to these friends of ours in LA. No matter what our opinions on tactics of change, we can agree that these cops are fucking up and need to be held responsible!
